Twenty-Four Contemporary Pieces For Solo Piano includes a diverse selection of works from 16 of the world's leading composers. The 24 pieces featured in this collection represent the best of contemporary classical Piano music being composed today. As well as being a compilation of fantastically enjoyable compositions, the book also features interesting notes by each composer to accompany their music. These Contemporary Pieces For Solo Piano are at once accessible and musically inspiring, featuring some of the most talented and respected composers and their most definitive contributions to Piano music. Perhaps the biggest name included here is that of Ludovico Einaudi, whose wide reputation is a result of his masterful ability to pull at heartstrings, exemplified in his works Berlin Song, The Earth Prelude and Waterways, all of which are included here. Other giants of contemporary classical music are included in the collection, names like Philip Glass (Etude #11), Max Richter (Horizon Variations and Vladimir's Blues) and Hauschka, whose Can You Dance For Me, Early In The Park and Until It's Dawn perfectly encapsulate the emotive characteristics of all the pieces in this book. Composers like Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds, Dustin O'Halloran and Jóhann Jóhannsson evolved from a similar school that favours building atmosphere with hypnotic arpeggiation in composition, explaining why these composers are often used to great effect in film soundtracks.Other inclusions in Twenty-Four Contemporary Pieces For Solo Piano are simply too important to have left out, namely Nico Muhly's Hudson Cycle, two pieces by Joby Talbot as well as Tarik O'Regan's Lines Of Desire. The beauty of the songs here speak for themselves, but the composers have also written brief notes that preface each of the pieces, giving fascinating insight into either the composition itself or particular playing notes. Featuring some of the best compositions by the most respected and creative musicians writing today, the Twenty-Four Contemporary Pieces For Solo Piano within this collection are an exciting prospect for any pianist looking for some wonderfully inspiring music to learn and play. / Piano

17 Book 2 (ZELENSKI
WLADYSLAW) Piano seul [Partition] PWM (Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne)
Par ZELENSKI WLADYSLAW. Wladyslaw Zelenski had the Six Character Pieces for pian...(+)
Par ZELENSKI WLADYSLAW. Wladyslaw Zelenski had the Six Character Pieces for piano, op. 17 ready around 1871, although it is quite possible that he composed them earlier, even in 1864. Such is indicated by the opus number. At that time he was giving opus numbers to works in chronological order of composition. This set is dedicated to Auguste Auspitz-Kolár, a pianist whom Zelenski could have met on one of his trips to Vienna. The composer published these works in 1872, with Gotthard of Vienna, in two books under the common title Sechs Charakterstücke. The present edition is based on Ludwig Doblinger?s Viennese edition (cat. no. 1221 comprises the Praeludium, Promenade and Tanz, cat. no. 1222 the Canon, Scherzo and Abschied).
The compositions collected in Zelenski?s opus 17 have been unjustly forgotten. Their undeniable qualities include advanced harmonies and expressive melodic writing, as well as a wide range of textural means and composition techniques. Quite ?densely? written, these miniatures may prove challenging, but the right fingering eliminates many difficulties of performance.
The second book of Wladyslaw Zelenski?s Six Character Pieces contains three miniatures: Canon, Scherzo and Farewell. They manifest characteristic features of the composer?s style, such as the use of counterpoint and a rich, organ-like texture.
The Canon, with its emotional charge and build-up of tension, brings to mind miniatures from the brilliant piano cycles of Robert Schumann. A very simple phrase is imitated canonically between the top voice and the two bottom voices, passing through different keys. A touch of finesse is added by the triplet figuration in the middle plan.
The next miniature is a classic Scherzo in ABA form. The outer sections, with an imitated theme, are in G minor. With its rather ominous, perhaps somewhat tragic, character, it contrasts with the middle section, Un poco più tranquillo, in the parallel key of G major, which clearly represents a more luminous, dance-like episode in this set of works.
The title Farewell given to the last piece in opus 17 may stir associations with Ludwig van Beethoven?s only programme sonata, Les Adieux. This miniature is far more expansive and texturally richer than the other works in this set. The virtuosic elements are of the highest order, not overwhelming the composition, but emphasising its powerful emotional charge.
Each of these miniatures can function as a separate work, but when played as two three-part cycles they fall into logical wholes, in which the climax is reached in the last, most elaborate piece. Yet a performance of all six works from both books, so the whole of Zelenski?s opus 17, allows us to discern an even larger cyclical form, developed in an equally deliberate way. - Anna Miernik/ Répertoire / Piano

Par ZELENSKI WLADYSLAW. Wladyslaw Zelenski had the Six Character Pieces for piano, op. 17 ready around 1871, although it is quite possible that he composed them earlier, even in 1864. Their undeniable qualities include advanced harmonies and expressive melodic writing, as well as a wide range of textural means and composition techniques. Quite ?densely? written, these miniatures may prove challenging, but the right fingering eliminates many difficulties of performance.
The first book of the Six Character Pieces opens with a Prelude. Here the voices are often led in thirds, sixths and octaves. This work is ideally suited to practising parallel intervals, but with its expressive qualities it can also be successfully played in a recital by a mature pianist.
The second piece, entitled Promenade, displays a distinct ABA form. The composer gradually builds up to a climax, beginning with an initially innocent motif and an intricate right-hand part.
The Dance is the most complex of all the three pieces. Here the composer juxtaposes two different characters: a waltz in A flat major in the outer sections with a playful scherzando in the middle, led in E major. The virtuosic triplet progressions in a Chopinesque brillant style lend this miniature a light feel. The closing coda recapitulates the principal motifs.
In the first book of Six Character Pieces, besides the Chopinesque subtleties, one also notes inspirations from the German Romantic tradition, while Zelenski himself comes across as an extremely interesting figure in Polish neoromanticism and a composer who elaborated his own original, distinctive style.

with Bagatelle in A minor WoO 59 'Für Elise'. Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. This edition brings together all of Beethoven's pieces that he himself associated with the term 'bagatelle', a trifle. The Bagatelles reflect Beethoven's diverse compositional cosmos in miniature and span almost his entire oeuvre from 1801/02 to 1824/25. In terms of playing technique, they range from moderate dexterity to demanding virtuosity. In addition to the well-known collections opp. 33, 119 and 126, ten more pieces were found after Beethoven's death in an envelope labelled ?Bagatelles?. These included the revised version of ?Für Elise? as well as two further revisions of bagatelles which appear here in print for the first time. Beethoven conceived the cycle, still known today as 'op. 119' ? although this opus number did not stem from him ? as two separate projects with five and six pieces respectively. Our edition presents these two collections separately for the first time, as Beethoven proposed. Variants, additions and revisions in the first print that go beyond the main manuscript source and were most likely intended by Beethoven are presented in grey print. A variety of new insights, an informative Foreword and insightful notes on Viennese piano playing in Beethoven's time (German/English) as well as a detailed Critical Commentary (Eng) offer the performer an abundance of information and a new perspective on Beethoven's bagatelle oeuvre. / Date parution : 2024-01-06/ Recueil / Piano

from opus 170 - Edizione a cura di Luca Ciammarughi. Par CASTELNUOVO-TEDESCO MARIO. Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco composed 52 Greeting Cards for various instruments between 1953 and 1967, collectively catalogued as opus 170, which he developed in a non-systematic manner up to the year before his death. These pieces were conceived as gifts for his interpreters and students, whom the author meant to gratify with these pleasant little vignettes. Composed between 1953 and 1964, the 18 Greeting Cards for piano (17 for piano solo and 1 for two pianos) represent a point of equilibrium between experimentation and tradition.

One must look long and hard to find a piano pupil who hasn't studied Beethoven's two 'sonate facile? op. 49. They are not only relatively easy to play but highly lyrical and effective, ideally combining joy in music-making with a mastery of early classical literature. The two works were composed much earlier than the opus number suggests. Beethoven wrote them around 1797/98, during a time when he also worked on one of his most important sonatas, the 'Grande Sonate pathétique? op. 13. Jonathan Del Mar, currently one of the most renowned Beethoven scholars, stands for a meticulously edited Urtext edition on the basis of an intensive study of all sources. Performers are presented with a musical text which is based on the latest research findings and whose fine engraving and practical page turns facilitate the study of these works. This Urtext edition includes an informative Introduction and valuable notes on historical performance practice. Here the pianist will also find information regarding the dynamics of the second sonata whose sources contain hardly any dynamic markings at all. Source discrepancies and editorial principles are discussed in the detailed Critical Commentary. / Piano

With his Etudes-Tableaux Rachmaninoff continued down the path that Chopin and Liszt had already set out on with their concert etudes: the most demanding technical tasks are presented in the form of expressive character pieces. Rachmaninoff composed two cycles, each originally with nine Etudes-Tableaux- however, shortly before Opus 33 went to print, he removed three of the pieces. Several posthumous editions later reversed this decision. However, in our edition we follow the exact structure with six pieces as laid out by Rachmaninoff for publication. The two surviving etudes that were not originally published are reprinted in an appendix to our Urtext edition. / Piano

Sept pièces pour piano. Par LAKS SIMON. Simon Laks (1901-1983), who moved from Warsaw to Paris in 1926 at the age of 25, belonged to the large group of composers from Central and Eastern European countries who went down in 20th-century music history as the ?École de Paris?. Slavic temperament amalgamated in their music with French esprit, the folklore of their native countries combined with the stylistic elements of neoclassicism and jazz typical of the time. As a member of the ?Association of Young Polish Musicians?, Laks quickly made his way into French musical life. However, his career was ended with the beginning of World War 2 due to the collaboration of the Vichy government with Nazi Germany. Internment in 1941 was followed by deportation to Auschwitz in 1942. Laks survived the Shoah as a member and later leader of a camp band in Birkenau, which he testified to in his moving book Music in Auschwitz. After the traumatic experiences, Laks did not return to regular compositional activity until the 1960s, producing an opera, songs, and chamber music works, some of which were awarded important composition prizes. At the peak of this optimistic creative phase, he composed incidental music for Peretz Hirschbein's famous Yiddish comedy Dem Schmids Techter (The Blacksmith's Daughters), which premiered in New York in 1918, for a new production of the play at the Théâtre de l?Entrepôt in Paris. Along with Prokofiev's Overture on Hebrew Themes and Shostakovich's cycle From Yiddish (Jewish) Folk Poetry, it is one of the most significant 20th-century explorations of art music with Jewish folklore ? homage to a culture irreparably destroyed. From the original score, Holger Groschopp compiled two suites, for violoncello and piano and piano solo, that capture the essence of Lak?s enchanting drama music. The premiere recording of the suites with Holger Groschopp and Adele Bitter was awarded the Opus Klassik 2023 in the category Editorial Achievement of the Year. . / Niveau : moyen - avancé / Date parution : 2024-01-06/ Répertoire / Piano

Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. The two Rondos op. 51 were written independently of one another and only later consolidated into a single opus by Beethoven’s publisher. The first of these works from 1797 quickly became popular on account of how it combines simple, catchy melody with surprising modulations and expressive, dramatic eruptions within a compact form. With its moderate degree of difficulty, the piece is ideal preparation before embarking on Beethoven’s piano sonatas. Based on her preliminary research for the critical Complete Edition, Beethoven specialist Joanna Cobb Biermann has carefully revised the musical text of the Henle Urtext edition and updated the preface to reflect the latest scholarship./ Répertoire / Piano

With the new Urtext Primo series, the Wiener Urtext Edition wants to close the gap arising at the point of transition to additional lessons after having studied a piano method. Beginning with a performance level which is outlined by pieces such as Bach's Minuet in G (BWV Anh. 116), Mozart's Minuet in F (KV 5) or Schumann's Wilder Reiter (Op. 68/8), works by three different composers are selected for each volume of the Urtext Primo series, with the aim of offering piano pupils (or even adults who want to resume piano playing) a wide range of repertoire pieces on the basis of which they can enhance their technical and musical skills. The pieces' range of levels of difficulty is relatively narrow so that the volume can be used continuously over a period of about two years. This is what distinguishes the Urtext Primo approach from almost all common anthologies. The selected repertoire takes into account not only pieces of the classic canon of lessons, but also lesser known works which are in no way of less importance for piano lessons. The Urtext Primo volumes are published in the internationally recognised standard of the Wiener Urtext editions. The explanations included in each volume shall help to deepen the knowledge of musical styles, music history and piano playing. A repertoire chart at the end of each volume gives a rough overview of the levels of difficulty of the selected pieces.Volume 4 combines works of the German Romanticism by Schumann, Brahms and Theodor Kirchner. Apart from well known pieces from Schumann's 'Album for the Youth' and the easiest waltzes from opus 39 (in the easier version) by Brahms, the selection contains the attractive set of variations from Schumann's first Youth Sonata Op. 118/1 and Brahms' Saraband in A minor WoO 5/1 as well as a number of pleasant pieces by Theodor Kirchner which continue the tonal air of Schumann and Brahms in easy playable pieces. / Piano

Par DVORAK ANTONIN. On 18 January 1887 Antonín Dvorák (1841–1904) started composing his Romantic Pieces for violin and piano, opus 75 (B 150), completing that version on 25 January. They were performed for the first time in a private house two days later, with the composer writing to his publisher in Berlin: ‘Played here yesterday and very well received.’
For this edition reference has been made to a copy of the original manuscript and to the first edition. The small number of bow markings in the violin part of the piano score are original and have been left unaltered.
These four contrasting movements are a welcome addition to the violin repertoire and a very effective alternative to Dvorák’s large-scale violin works, the Concerto in A minor and Romance in F minor. / Niveau : Avancé / Répertoire / Violon et Piano

Par SIBELIUS JEAN. The Piano runs through Jean Sibelius's oeuvre like a red thread. After some first student pieces, he composed the Sonata op. 12 (EB 8142) in 1893, and his first cycle of Piano pieces, the Six Impromptus op. 5. Here the Finnish composer self-assuredly takes up a great romantic genre significantly shaped by Schubert and Chopin. Sibelius draws inspiration from some of his own early works in this composition, yet he also uses the last two pieces from opus 5 as the groundwork for an autonomous 'Impromptu' for string orchestra which he put together shortly after completing the Piano pieces. 'You must judge me on the basis of my orchestral works. The Piano does not interest me. Itcannot sing, ' said Sibelius. Yet how seriously can we take this famous quote when considering how masterfully he crossed the boundaries with his Impromptus' Pianists such as Ralf Gothoni, Glenn Gould and Olli Mustonen have not let themselves be deterred by the composer's harsh self-criticism, and, with their interpretations, have provided compelling proof of the opposite./ Répertoire / Piano

Scriabin's ten complete piano sonatas offer a fascinating insight into the Russian composer's stylistic development. While his first works still fully reflect the late-romantic tradition, the late works keep bursting the bounds of tonality. The boldly outlined, two-movement Fourth Sonata marks a turning point, for it evokes the world of the 'Poème de l'extase? with its mystical atmosphere hovering between ethereal rapture and ecstatic flight. The publication of opus 30 means that all of Scriabin's sonatas are now available in Henle Urtext quality and edited by the expert Valentina Rubcova of Moscow - an invitation to all pianists to plunge into this unique cosmos. / Piano

In E-Flat Major / In C-Sharp Minor. Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. At the dawn of the 19th century Beethoven struck out on new paths with his two opus 27 sonatas, each of which he called a 'sonata quasi una fantasia”. Both of them, in particular Sonata no. 2 which was later nicknamed the 'Moonlight Sonata”, were destined for immortality.

The Flute Collection. Par SCHUMANN ROBERT. Remarks in his household books indicate that Robert Schumann (1810–1856) composed the Märchenbilder (Fairy-Tale Pictures) for piano and viola (or violin) op. 113 in just four days between 1st and 4th March, 1851, in Düsseldorf. Schumann only gradually came to the title Märchenbilder. The four pieces are unified by their shared opus number and keys (D minor, F major, D minor, D major), but the first edition published them in two volumes (Vol. 1: Nos. 1 and 2; Vol. 2: Nos. 3 and 4). Clearly, the Märchenbilder op. 113 do not need to be performed as a group but can be played in pairs or individually.
The present arrangement is based upon the viola part. The viola's ambitus, when transposed up an octave, matches that of the flute. Solutions from the violin part have also been used on occasion. The double stops in the second piece were, for example, already simplified in the violin version. At such points the violin part provides a model for further simplifications in the flute part. A later, corrected edition of the first print served as the source of the current edition./ Répertoire / Flûte Traversière et Piano

When his contemporaries heard the works that Johannes Brahms had composed during his summer holiday in Ischl in 1893 - the Piano Pieces op. 118 -, they were delighted. Clara Schumann was one of the first to be allowed to get to know the new pieces, and she attested that they contained 'a wealth of sentiment in the smallest of dimensions?. Philipp Spitta fittingly said that the works were 'perfect for slowly absorbing in solitude and tranquillity?. Opus 118 contains two of the composer's bestknown miniatures - the Intermezzo in A major and the Romanze in F major. We particularly recommend this volume, based on the musical text in the New Brahms Complete Edition, to all those who wish to immerse themselves in the world of Brahms' late works. / Piano

Johannes Brahms' late piano works in the form of the two editions HN 36 (paperbound) and 37 (clothbound) have been a cornerstone of the Henle catalogue ever since the early 1950s. In 2011 the volume with piano pieces (HN 6014) was published in the new Brahms Complete Edition, an edition of these important works that reflected the latest in scholarly research. Having already published single volumes of our Urtext editions of opus numbers 76, 79 and 116-119 with the up-to-date musical text in the Complete Edition, we are now rounding off this Brahms project by publishing the revised volume of collected works, available as a classic paperbound, clothbound or handy study edition. FREDERIC) Piano seul [Partition] Peters
Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. The Complete Chopin ? A New Critical Edition from Edition P...(+)
Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. The Complete Chopin ? A New Critical Edition from Edition Peters is firmly established as the most important ongoing scholarly edition of Chopin?s music and is a must for any discerning pianist. The world?s foremost Chopin editors, under Editor-in-chief John Rink, bring their unrivalled collective knowledge to imbue the project with unique authority, drawing upon the latest international scholarship. The Complete Chopin prioritizes the needs of the practical pianist and provides a beautifully presented performing text of each work based on a single principal source together with important variants, along with thorough critical commentaries and illuminating prefatory essays in English, French and German. Chopin?s etudes occupy a central position in piano literature. Prized by generations of the greatest pianists as the supreme examples in the genre, their reputation rests on their not only challenging specific aspects of a pianist?s technique, but also for being great music, transcending the genre of mere ?study?. In this edition of opus 10 (the earlier of Chopin?s two sets of studies, ending with the famous \'Revolutionary\' etude), pianist and musicologist Roy Howat presents a new edition which addresses many of the misunderstandings created by a very poorly engraved first French edition (containing errors which were then carried over to the German and English editions) ? an edition which nevertheless included many important revisions made at proof stage. Using this first French edition as a primary source, Howat produces an Urtext edition which, while recording noteworthy variants from a variety of sources, is not a ?conflated? version, but a coherent performing edition in its own right, ideal for all who aspire to play these cornerstones of piano repertoire in an informed way. / Date parution : 2022-09-07/ Recueil / Piano
