duration of about 10
minutes, Schubert's
Magnificat D 486 in C
major is one of the more
concise settings of the
well-known Marian
canticles, originally for
the service of Vespers.
It was composed in late
summer 1815, and is
therefore probably one of
a series of church music
works Schubert wrote in
his youth for Lichtenthal
Parish Church. The work
requires a large-scale
orchestra with strings,
woodwind, and brass. The
four-part choir contrasts
with four soloists; this
quartet sings the
peaceful middle section
of the three-section
work. For the Carus
edition Schubert's own
autograph manuscript of
his Magnificat was
consulted again for the
first time since 1888.
Until 1989 this had been
thought to be lost. This
work is now available in

charming song-like

backdrop for an

of the two texts centers
on the multi-faceted
meanings of each poem,
exploring themes of lost

mortality, destiny and
hope. Audiences and

experience Dickinson's
poignant words through
haunting melodies, vivid

Latin. For the
moving moment in the Good
Friday liturgy, when the
priest symbolically
washes the feet of
several people thereby
recalling the thoughtful,
loving gesture of Christ
at the Last Supper, the
Christian church provides
a specially intimate,
conciliatory text in the
antiphon Ubi caritas.
Matsushita's composition
sets this text quite
simply to reflect this
moment in a beautiful
motet, which is both
charming and grateful to
sing. In an entirely
tonal setting in F major,
with chromatic accents
sparingly employed, he
uses elements from
organum and pedal points
to create tonally
atmospheric expanses
contrasting with the
syllabic setting which
runs throughout. In his
writing he uses unisons,
thirds and contrary
motion, spanning
quasi-Gregorian melodies.
Matsushita sets the three
verses of the hymn
usually set nowadays, and
these also divide the
composition. Each verse
is introduced with the
ascending pentatonic
motif Ubi caritas, but
the melody is transformed
according to the text and
expresses the
immeasurable joy of the
glory of God in the third
verse in a brief forte
outburst with leaps of a
fifth, before the
composition concludes
with a final Ubi caritas
and an Amen lost in
reverie. voice range: S:

have forever been at the
heart of God’s
Church. They help build
our faith, tell of the
rich, full, grace of our
Savior, and speak of our
devotion and allegiance
to Him; songs express our
thoughts and feelings and
needs in a way that mere
words never can. Songs
allow us to lift our
voice to declare that He
alone is worthy of our
praise, He alone is the
one true God and King,
and He alone has provided
a way to salvation for a
lost and dying world. The
songs included in this
new Word Music & Church
Resources Choral
Collection are Songs
the Church Loves to
Sing! Across decades,
styles and sounds have
changed, but the impact
songs have on
God’s people is
undeniable and
unmistakable. Through the
70s, 80s, and 90s, a
lexicon of Christian
songs took their place
beside the time-honored
hymns of the church,
songs that became the
voice of new generations
of believers, songs that
the church still loves to
sing. This Choral
Collection, arranged and
orchestrated by Marty
Parks, is a tribute to
those songs. We hope and
believe this church music
resource will find its
place in your church
music library and will be
used as a tool of
outreach and ministry to
proclaim your love and
adoration for the Lord,
giving voice to people
everywhere; a voice with
which to keep singing

promise of eternal life
and declare a longing to
go home like I Know
I’ll Be There, and
Resurrection Morn; songs
that speak to the depth
of God’s love for
us and the lengths to
which He will go to
rescue us like Lost and
Just When You Thought;
songs that tell of His
faithfulness to us and
songs that speak of our
desire to be found
faithful; songs that will
bring a smile to your
face, a tear to your eye,
and a spring to your
step, that will make your
heart soar to think of
how much He loves us! No
sound this side of heaven
rivals the sound of a
spirited choir raising
their voices together to
sing an emotion-filled
Southern Gospel song of
testimony, deliverance,
victory, promise, and
forgiveness. Gather your
choir together soon to
let them experience the
joy and blessing of
ministering to people
through the message and
sounds of a Southern
Gospel song! $12.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 1 to 2 weeks | | |
