One of the constants has been the continued popularity of my Blues music instructional books for not only piano/keyboards but also Saxophone, Flute and Guitar. With developments in music software, faster internet download speeds for downloading mp3 audio files, (over 5 hours of downloadable audio backing tracks for this book) I felt it was time to author a 2nd. volume that uses newer software for improved sound quality, . Also, it is the 50th. anniversary since I started to learn to play Blues piano in 1968. I rememberthe wonderful feeling I had when I started to learn from the first two Blues piano books I bought from a music shop along the Charing Cross Road in London, I still have both books “Just Blues” a compilation of Blues, Jazz and Boogie-Woogie songs and “How To Play Blues Piano” by Junior Mance. I have again created 100 Blues riffs with many of them having elements of Rock, Funk, Country, Jazz, Boogie-Woogie, Gospel and Latin styles. The riffs are in the order that I composed them, giving you the learner an element of surprise as to what the next riff is going to sound like. Each of the 100 riffs have been recorded twice, the 1st. time, the piano part with a rhythm backing track and the 2nd. time a rhythm backing track to practice playing along with. I have also created a separate play-a-long track that consists of 10 choruses of the 12 Bar Blues progression. I would hope that you will use each riff to build your own Blues “song” through the 12 Bar Blues progression. The rolling motion of a mountain stream is conveyed by repeated, undulating phrases in both parts of this piece for intermediate piano ensemble, two pianos, four hands. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra - Arranged on basis of the Cantata Yellow River. Par XINGHAI XIAN. Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky may have influenced it and Lang Lang has included it in his repertoire: the piano concerto 'Yellow River' features a brilliant virtuoso solo part, expressiveness and drama, contemplation, great pathos and wit. Based on the cantata of the same name by the famous Chinese composer Xian Xinghai (1905-1945), the concerto, arranged by Yin Chengzong among others, is similarly characterized by the combination of Chinese folk music and elements of the Peking Opera, with traditional European art music. 'Yellow River', the cradle of Chinese civilization and a symbol of the spirit of the Chinese people, can be compared to the 'Moldau' from Smetana's symphonic poem 'Má Vlast'. Cole Porters only attempt at a 'serious? composition came with the ballet score Within the Quota, when Darius Milhaud suggested Porter as a composer to pair with his La Création du monde. Both pieces were rapturously received by the Parisian press at the October 1923 premiere at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Cole Porter later believed the score to be lost. In 1970 the score was discovered at Yale, from which William Bolcom and Richard Rodney Bennett created this two-piano version. Par RACHMANINOV SERGEI / WARENBERG ALEXANDER (Arr.). What if the probably most popular symphony by Sergei Rachmaninoff were rewritten as a piece for piano and orchestra' This was the idea behind the 'adaptation' of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 into his Piano Concerto No. 5. All the while, the Russian pianist-composer Alexander Warenberg kept true to Rachmaninoff's style. However, the four movements of the symphony had to be adapted to the common three-movement form of the piano concerto by combining the second and third movements into one 'Adagio'. Warenberg's arrangement has meanwhile been performed many times. He is one of the last musicians to incarnate the traditional 19th century figure of pianist, teacher and composer, inaugurated at the beginning of the 19th century by Muzio Clementi and carriedon after that by a sequence of famous names that the history of music has handed down to us. As a pianist, he began to give public performances at the age of 13, making his debut in his home town Rosario. Following this success, he embarked upon an extremely busy career as a soloist, giving numerous recitals in Buenos Aires and other citiesin Argentina. He continued to take advanced lessons with eminent exponents of the most prestigious international piano schools. In 1974 he became an Italian citizen and settled in Rome, teaching piano as principal instrument at the S. Pietro a Majella StateConservatory in Naples, the Luisa DAnnunzio Conservatory in Pescara and the Alfredo Casella Conservatory in Aquila. As a composer, he began - at just 9 years of age - to study in the rigorous school of Paul Hindemith, under the guidance of Father Luis Machado, from whom he inherited a love of counterpoint and a strong taste for harmony. He took a diploma incomposition, counterpoint and fugue at the age of 16 at the Amigos del Arte Society in Rosario, going on in 1964 to do an advanced course in 12-tone counterpoint at the Cleveland Institute of Music. The Concerto for piano and wind instruments, created in the last stage of the life of Antonio Ruiz-Pipó (1934-1997), certainly is one of his most outstanding compositions. Expressive, yet at the same time characterized by great precision and economy of means, the work is written in the tradition of Manuel de Falla. Pianist and ensemble, especially the woodwind players, are equally faced with technical challenges.
