English. Stephen
Collins Foster lived from
1826 to 1864, until only
age 37. He was extremely
prolific, with numerous
songs that have lasted to
this day. I first had the
idea to arrange Beautiful
Dreamer for SATB choirs a
cappella, after hearing
Kristen Chenoweth in
concert. She ended her
concert, in a 1,600 seat
hall, with Beautiful
Dreamer, an a cappella
solo, with no microphone.
Given the beautiful
melody, text and Ms.
Chenoweth's voice, one
could have heard a pin
drop in the audience. Her
performance concluded to
thunderous applause and a
standing ovation. The
power of music.
Throughout this
arrangement, the
harmonies support the
beautiful melody and text
(rather than get in its'
way). Opportunities
abound for vocal parts to
be showcased as well as
an optional solo/duet at
the beginning. Sing
freely, with pure vowels,
crisp diction and
sensitivity, allowing the
text to prevail by giving
special attention to
stressed and unstressed
syllables and words. I
hope you enjoy singing
this arrangement in
rehearsal and performance
to the delight of your
audience. Tell the story
through song because
that's what we should
always do when performing
choral music. Russell

The Requiem
Mass in C Minor,
Cherubini's first, was
commissioned for the
anniversary of the
execution of Louis XVI by
the restored French
monarchy. The Requiem was
highly admired by the
public and critics as
well as by Mendelssohn,
Berlioz and Beethoven.
Cherubini sets a solemn
tone right from the
beginning by using the
lower Strings and winds
only to accompany the
Voices and continues to
display his inventiveness
with great effectiveness
throughout the work. The
thunder and lightning of
the Dies Irae, the
prayerful pianissimo
sections of the Agnus Dei
accompanied by ostinato,
the complete lack of
soloists are all
remarkable elements of
this historically
importantwork.Luigi
Cherubini was a composer,
conductor, teacher,
administrator and music
publisher who, though
born in Italy, dominated
the musical world of
Paris for nearly five
decades. His composing
life can be divided very
roughly into to phases:
the operatic phase during
the French Revolutionary
period and the equally
successful religious
music phase at the
beginning of the
Restoration afterwards.
His directorship of the
Paris Conservatoire
strengthened its position
at the peak of musical
education on the
Continent. $13.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks | | |

opening chorus of the
cantata Schauet doch und
sehet (Look ye then and
see now) is one of those
movements by Bach which
are much better known in
their later guise: the
first part of it became
the Qui tollis of the
Mass in B minor. But this
movement is not the only
high point of the cantata
from Bach's earliest
Leipzig period. Both the
arias are also unusual: a
bass aria depicting God's
anger dramatically as a
thundering storm, with
strings and slide
trumpet, which gives the
movement a very special
colour through its
unexpected notes beyond
the instrument's natural
series, and an alto aria
with two recorders,
accompanied by just two
oboi da caccia in unison,
which take the role of
the continuo as little
basset instruments. Music

with the Donner-Ode
(1756/1760). As a symbol
thunder represents the
forces of nature, here in
close connection to the
traumatic earthquake of
Lisbon in 1755. The
characteristic
arrangement of the vocal
parts and the scoring
with three trumpets, the
soloistic use of the
timpani and instrumental
ensemble made this
avant-garde work popular
and well known already
during the composer's
lifetime. The new edition
presented here takes into
consideration important,
newly discovered sources
such as the autograph of
the first part. Score and
