As playing funk styles is a passion of Andrew’s, he has written this instructional book “100 Ultimate Soul, Funk and R&B Grooves” based on the influences of the great Funk, Soul and R&B artists such as: James Brown, Herbie Hancock, The Crusaders, Average White Band, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Parliament, Ramsey Lewis, Booker T and The MG’s, MFSB, Billy Preston etc. Besides the afore-mentioned styles Andrew has also added a few grooves that are Afro-Caribbean such as: Latin, Reggae and Calypso. Each of the 100 grooves have been recorded with the Saxophone part playing along with a rhythm section of guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and in many of the grooves, percussion. There is also a three minute Play-A-Long track for each of the 100 grooves Andrew D. Gordon, world renowned music educator, author of over 60 music educational products, has previously written numerous books on saxophone styles such as: “100 Ultimate Blues Riffs for Saxophone”, “100 Ultimate Jazz Riffs for Saxophone”, “The Blues Scale for Saxophone” as well as another book that A. D. G. Productions publishes “Ultimate Funk Grooves for Saxophone” authored by Ben Tompsett which have all been well received by students, teachers and musicians all over the world. Par GORDON ANDREW D.. The idea for this book series is to give instrumentalists the opportunity to practice solo improvisational techniques while playing along to rhythm tracks of keyboards, guitar, bass, drums/percussion in various different Latin styles including Calypso, Mambo, Salsa, Songo, Bossa, Guaracha, Samba and Latin-Blues. The 24 grooves totalling over 200 riffs/phrases and play-a-long tracks consists of a variety of tempos and keys. Each groove has a variety of riffs to learn that are generally 4 or 8 measures in length. It would be beneficial if you could memorize these riffs so that you can experiment using different permutations of the riffs as well as being used as a starting off point for one's own improvisations. Each riff has been recorded with a rhythm track with each style having an extended play-a-long track, around 3 minutes in length, recorded without the solo part so you can practice the riffs that you have learned. Also, these musical phrases or riffs may be interchanged from one groove to another and should be learned in as many keys as possible.
