The fast and technically challenging passages found in the final movement of the Mendelssohn String Octet influenced Hindson's decision to compose a work for the Goldner String Quartet that is highly virtuosic in nature. Hindson remarks, 'it is much more the spirit of Mendelssohn's string writing that was influential, particularly the last movements of his string quartets and the String Octet, rather than any sort of harmony or melodic invention.' This nine minute piece also features the playful, up-beat and repetitive rhythms found in popular music. The fast and mostly accelerating tempo of Rush reinforces both the title of the piece and the influence of 'techno' music. Rush also features a series of catchy and vibrant melodies, making the work accessible to a wide audience. Although the piece is scored for guitar and string quartet, it is regarded by Hindson as a guitar quintet, where the guitarist and the string quartet are treated not as soloists performing with accompaniment, but as integral and equally important entities in the work as a whole. 'The name, Mangoré, was adopted in honor of the great chieftain Mangoré, an important personage of the Paraguayan jungles'.Mangoré used for his works popular folkloristic themes of South America as well as sounds of nature ('the still waters of ['] the Amazon', 'the song of the birds'). But Magnoré also was inspired by European music: He composed gavottes, minuets and waltzes: 'It was in J.S.Bach where Barrios discovered the source of his universality [']'.Admired by many but despised by more was his way of stringing his guitar: '['] the way he attacked the strings with the fingers sideward, with very little use of the fingernails'. In Olli Koskelin's 7 Haiku for flute and guitar the haiku gets three different interpretations: intertwined with the composed version the performers improvise it and read it out loud. The texts of haiku are included in English and in Finnish. Duration: c. 15' This product is a B4 sized folder with two copies of the performance score (loose pages). Olli Koskelin's (born 16 April 1955) compositional output reflects a wide range of interests. The vast area covered by his style encompasses the neo-impressionism of the piano work Courbures (1989) to the post-expressionist echoes of his Music for String Quartet (1981) as well as the breakneck virtuosity of his clarinet piece Exalte (1985/1991) and the rich romantic textures of his orchestral piece ... like a planet silently breathing... (1993). He often uses the overtone series like the French spectral composers and avoids dramatic culmination.
