Livre

Par FARKAS FERENC. “I wrote this Christmas cantata from Köröshegy at the request of the Council of the Komitat Somogy. When I visited the still unrenovated little church at Köröshegy about ten years ago I had no idea that this beautiful Gothic building would one day be the scene of the world première of one of my works. - The cantata is founded on four pillars: four organ soli which could be described as “ritornelli”, followed by four a cappella choruses with the same melody but different harmonizations. These are settings of the four verses of In Epiphaniam by Janus Pannonius, the most renowned Hungarian poet and humanist of the Renaissance. Between these pillars I have introduced movementsfor choir or for soloists based on Hungarian folk tunes and Christmas songs from Transylvania and the Komitat Somogy: songs of the shepherds, angels and wise men, and, after a pastorale for organ, a large scale mixed-voice chorus intoning Ez karácsony éjszakáján [Holy Night]. A narrator introduces the individual numbers with passages from the Christmas story. An organ postlude concludes the work. ” [Ferenc Farkas] This work may be performed in German, English, French or Hungarian language, accompanied by a chamber ensemble or a larger orchestra./ Répertoire / Petit Orchestre: Récitant, Solistes et Choeur SSAT

Hungarian Dances - Score Hal Leonard
The composer wrote of his work as follows: In the music of Hungary, folk songs ...(+)
The composer wrote of his work as follows: In the music of Hungary, folk songs are manifestly of great importance, on the other hand our ancient airs and dances play a modest role. For this work I have been influenced by dances of the 17th century, written by unknown amateurs in a relatively simple style. Most of these dances were recorded between the 14th and 18th centuries under the usual form of tablature notation. My interest in this music was first captured in the 1940s. I was so fascinated that I decided to give these melodies new life. I fitted the little eight-bar dances together into ternary and rondo forms, and leaning on early Baroque harmony and counterpoint, I attempted a reminiscence of that atmosphere of the provincial Hungarian Baroque. Par FARKAS FERENC. The musical material for these pieces was taken from the 17th century Kulcsar Melodiarium (Sarospatak, 1770), Novak Melodiarium (Sarospatak) and Patak Melodiarium (1798). Both the Latin and the Hungarian versions of these short character pieces were set to music. The cycle provides a good picture of the lives of the maturing students. The tunes reflect the many bonds that tied 18th century Hungarian music to the European musical culture of the time, while they also show signs of typical Hungarian character./ Feuillet / Choeur Mixte

Hungarian Rondo was composed by Zoltán Kodály in December 1917, drawing on material from the incidental music he had written for Zsigmond Móriczs play Pacsirtaszó (Skylarking). The rondo form is shaped out of four new-style Hungarian folk songs and an instrumental dance melody. Kodály prepared the piece in two somewhat different versions, one for two clarinets, two bassoons and string orchestra, and the other for cello and piano. The orchestral version received its first performance in Vienna on 12 January 1918 at a 'historical concert' organized by the War Ministry of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The cello version was premi?red by Miklós Zsámboky and Ottó Herz at the Budapest Academy of Music on 4 November 1927. Neither version appeared in print in the composers lifetime. The version for string orchestra was edited in 1976 by Ferenc Farkas and István Máriássy (and is distributed as a hire material under the order number K-1). The cello version appears here in print for the first time. The publication is based on the composers surviving manuscript and a contemporary manuscript copy of this. The fingerings are by the editor. / Violoncelle Et Piano
