composed The Merry
Widow which became an
instant worldwide
success. The libretto of
this operetta provides a
succession of intimate
arias and duets with
festive ensembles. The
Vilja-Lied is one
of these arias. In this
edition for concert band

Artemis is the
Greek goddess of hunting
and forests. In western
art she is often pictured
with deer, lions or bears
with a bow in her hand.
The tempo of this march
is stately and the themes
are
“concertanteâ€
in character making
Artemis best suited as a
concert march rather than
a street march.
Technically this march is
not too difficult
although at times some
dexterous fingering is
necessary. The trio
melody is especially
lyrical and offers
various sections within
the band the possibility
to show off their skill
in playing the expressive
melody. This excellent
new concert march is sure
to become a classic and
be performed time and
time again.
Het
tempo van deze mars is
statig en de
thema’s zijn
concertant van karakter:
Artemis is dus
eerder geschikt als
concertmars dan als
loopmars. Technisch is
dit werk niet erg lastig
om spelen, al wordt af en
toe wel wat
vingervaardigheidvereist.
De triomelodie is echter
uitgesproken lyrisch en
biedt diverse secties
binnen het orkest de
mogelijkheid om zich
melodisch en expressief
te etaleren. Een
aangenaam klinkende en
prima speelbare
concertmars!
Artem
is ist die griechische
Göttin der Jagd und
der Wälder. Jan Van
der Roost ließ sich
zum wiederholten Male von
der griechischen
Mythologie inspirieren
und komponierte diesen
Marsch mit
gemäßigtem Tempo
und konzertanten Themen.
Obwohl technisch nicht
sehr schwer, erfordert er
doch stellenweise etwas
Fingerfertigkeit. Der
Trio-Teil ist jedoch
besonders lyrisch und
bietet verschiedenen
Registern des
Blasorchesters die
Möglichkeit, sich in
Melodie und Ausdruck zu
beweisen. Kurz gesagt ist
Artemis ein
ausgezeichneter und gut
spielbarer Konzertmarsch,
der viele Blasorchester
anspricht.

der Tod. Der Text dieses
alten Totentanzreigens
wird in einem daruber
liegenden Tonsatz als
Kontrafaktur zur alten
Melodie deklamiert.
3. ,,Von den Eiern
die keine Kucken
hervorbringen konnen weil
sie gegessen werden:
Diese durch Verfremdung
gewonnene Haltung
gegenuber dem Phanomen
Leben wird vom Frauenchor
und einer solistischen
Frauenstimme gesungen.
4. ,,Von der
Grausamkeit des Menschen:
Gewaltsamkeiten achtloser
Umgang mit der Erde und
dem Himmel werden benannt
daraus resultierende
Verhangnisse aber auch
Fragen an die Erde als

Jeanne d'Arc was composed
in 1887 for a festive
mass in Reims to
commemorate the arrival
of the national heroine
in the city on the
occasion of the
coronation of Charles VII
in 1429. Performed a
cappella or only
accompanied by an organ,
vast stretches of the
work are in an archaic
style in the tradition of
Palestrina. The royal
procession into the
cathedral is conveyed in
the splendid Prelude at
the beginning, which was
performed at the premiere
by eight trumpets, three
trombones, and organ. In
the performance material,
the present edition also
offers a version of the
movement for piano and
organ. For the
Offertoire, Gounod
composed a cantilena for
violin and organ (or
piano), which is also
included in the edition,
as a Vision of Jeanne

Charles
Gounod composed this
Requiem under the impact
of the death of his
four-year-old grandson,
Maurice. According to
information handed down,
while finishing the
details of this work he
was overtaken by death.
It was published
posthumously in various
constellations by his
pupil, Henri Busser, but
the only complete version
from the pen of Gounod is
the version for large
orchestra, which is
published here for the
first time in a critical
edition. Gounod's
Requiem, unlike many
contemporary settings of
the Mass of the Dead, is
not characterized by
darkness and terror.
Rather, with all of its
trepidation - expressed
through a marked
chromaticism - an
atmosphere of hopeful
expectation, of trust in
the grace and equity of
the divine judge
predominates. This
confidence finds its
expression in the choice
of the fundamental key of
C major, which is rather
unusual for a requiem.
The work was given an
impressive performance on
the occasion of the first
anniversary of Gounod's
death in the Parisian
church of
Sainte-Madeleine under
the direction of Gabriel
Fauré and it was
highly acclaimed by the
contemporary press. Score
