German. The
lyrics to Der Mond ist
aufgegangen (The Moon
Is Risen) come from
Matthias Claudius, one of
Germany’s
best-known poets. The
1779 poem with the
original title
Abendlied (Evening
song) was set to music by
Johann Abraham Peter
Schulz and has become
perhaps the most famous
Abendlied in the
German-speaking world.
Johann de Haan has
created a delightful
arrangement of this
poignant melody. The wind
orchestra can optionally
be accompanied by a choir
(Dutch and German texts
are provided).
De
tekst van het lied Der
Mond ist aufgegangen
is van de hand van
Matthias Claudius, een
bekende Duitse dichter.
Het gedicht komt uit 1779
en had oorspronkelijk de
titel Abendlied.
Johann Abraham Peter
Schulz zette hetop
muziek. Daarmee werd het
een van de bekendste
avondliederen in het
Duitstalige gebied. Jacob
de Haan maakte een fraaie
bewerking van deze
rustige melodie. Wilt u
dit werk met koor
uitvoeren? Dat kan. Zowel
de Nederlandse alsde
Duitse liedtekst wordt
meegeleverd.

Latin. When
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
returned to Salzburg in
January 1779 from his
journey to Paris, his
luggage contained a
single church music work
- an unfinished Kyrie in
E flat major (KV 296a)
together with sketches
for the Sanctus and
Benedictus (KV 296c). In
2015, at the suggestion
of the late Armin
Kircher, Johann Simon
Kreuzpointner set about
compiling a five-movement
setting of the mass from
this material, also
drawing on an unfinished
cantata in E flat major
(KV 429). For the
orchestration and text
underlay, Kreuzpointner
took his cue from
Mozart's church music
works. With this edition
Kreuzpointner, an
experienced church
musician and composer,
created a convincing and
stylistically assured
work, which he tried out
in several performances.
The result is a concise
setting of the mass, good
to sing, which does not
present any great
difficulties for
soloists, chorus, or
orchestra. The title
Missa brevissima does not
come from Mozart, but was
chosen because of the
brevity of the mass
setting with its missing
Credo. It also underlines
the special status of
this setting of the mass.

Cathedral of Spring for
chamber choir (2019) to
poems of e.e. cummings
and Robert Frost was
commissioned and
premiered by Somnium
Ensemble. The composer
tells: For the
celebration of the 10th
anniversary of Somnium
Ensemble (Finland), I was
commissioned to write a
piece with spring as a
central theme. While
contemplating that and
perusing appropriate
poetry, I was inspired by
memories of the
night-time sky in early
spring--the warm air, the
teeming, buzzing energy
of life all around, and
an expansive dome of
stars overhead. I then
imagined that moment in
time as a kind of sacred
space; this is the point
where the cathedral
notion came to mind. The
frenetic and joyous
poetry of e.e. cummings,
from his Epithalamion,
gives an exclamatory
introduction to the set,
followed by his vision of
spring from the point of
view of giddy children in
his iconic poem, [in
Just-]. We then take a
moment to contemplate the
ephemerality of all this
beauty (spring giveth and
spring taketh away, i.e.
an offertorium of sorts);
Robert Frost's
Blue-Butterfly Day places
us in a moment where, by
chance, we find ourselves
enveloped by a delicately
fluttering swarm of
butterflies. Peaceful and
still, yet in constant
flux, we spend a some
time taking that
phenomenon in, while also
experiencing a twinge of
the realisation that this
is truly fleeting. The
final movement, returning
to a later stanza from
Epithalamion, cummings's
sparkling paean to May is
set as a kind of final
anthem.. $20.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 4 to 6 weeks

Text by Isaac
Watts. “At
the Cross†contains
the very rich texts of
Isaac Watts and Ralph
Hudson. My desire is to
treat each verse with
utmost respect by
highlighting—throu
gh music—the
suffering, shame, hope,
beauty, and glory of the
cross. The cross embodies
all of these attributes.
You will notice there is
a somberness that begins
at m. 84, mirroring the
darkness that ensued
while Christ hung on the
cross (Mark 15:33). A
“darkerâ€
sound from the altos is
encouraged. This is the
turning point in the
song, preparing the
singers for the response
to such a sacrifice.
Although the text speaks
of grief and debt
(starting at m. 93), one
can see the hope that
builds, with the
realization that complete
surrender is the only
response to such a
sacrifice. Much thought
and energy (under
control) should be
expended to aid this
verse in building to the
climactic point of the
song, when hope is found
in the cross and the
burden has been
lifted. $2.50 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 1 to 2 weeks

Language:
Latin. Reflecting
the psalm text, the
composer Matsushita
constantly finds new ways
of expressing the praise
of God. In the swinging
rhythm of the 6/8 meter,
with its dotted rhythms
full of brio and binary
pulse in counterpoint,
with flashing dissonances
through the almost
oriental use of chromatic
intervals, with sharply
juxtaposed bitonal
chords, and with the
consonant-rich text,
rapidly sung, the
composer achieves an
impressive, virtuoso
showpiece which
accomplished choirs can
use to show off the full
range of their abilities.
Along the way Matsushita
never writes
unnecessarily complicated
music, but music which is
always based on his own
practical experience as a
choral director. In a
rondo-like form he finds
a parallel for the
repetitions of unceasing
praise. Matsushita sets
the text syllabically
throughout, but uses its
tonal colors to give
character to the
individual sections. For
example, the fanfare-like
opening motif alternates
with a crescendo section,
which draws its energy
from the contrast between
declamatory vocal parts
over a pedal point in
diminished and augmented
leaps of a third, fourth
and fifth. Voice range:

versatile Mass setting
for use throughout the
liturgical year, Mass
of the Sun of Justice /
Misa Sol de
Justicia is fully
bilingual, singable
entirely in English or in
Spanish, or any pastoral
combination of both
languages. At its core,
this setting is built on
assembly-minded melodies.
Much of the choral
writing is two-part,
albeit spelled out in
four voices, whereby the
basses frequently double
the soprano melody, and
the alto and tenor lines
essentially share a
single harmony in their
respective ranges,
splitting only at cadence
points for a fuller
effect. Optional descants
and divisi further expand
the voicing
possibilities. The
additional
instrumentation is
particularly spirited,
further enhancing these
sung texts for solemn
occasions. “Sun of
justice†is a term
used to reference Christ
with respect to his
second coming, as found
in the ancient
“Oâ€
antiphons. This title
appears in the Lectionary
among the Alleluia
options for the common of
the Blessed Virgin Mary,
and is, in fact, assigned
to the feast of Our Lady
of Guadalupe, celebrated
within the Advent season.
As such, the music is
“Advent-likeâ€
in nature—joyful
and filled with hope.Â
~~~~~ Una Misa
versátil para usar
durante todo el año
litúrgico, Mass of
the Son of Justice / Misa
Sol de Justicia es
completamente
bilingüe, se puede
cantar completamente en
inglés o en
español, o en
cualquier combinación
pastoral de ambos
idiomas. En esencia, este
arreglo se basa en
melodÃas para la
asamblea. Gran parte de
la escritura coral es de
dos partes, aunque
escrito para cuatro
voces, por lo que los
bajos con frecuencia
duplican la melodÃa de
soprano, y las lÃneas
de alto y tenor comparten
esencialmente una sola
armonÃa en sus
respectivos rangos,
dividiéndose solo en
los puntos de cadencia
para una melodÃa
más completa. Los
discante y divisi
opcionales amplÃan
aún más las
posibilidades de
sonorización. La
instrumentación
adicional es
particularmente animada,
mejorando aún más
estos textos cantados
para ocasiones solemnes.
Sol de justicia es un
término que se usa
para referirse a Cristo
con respecto a su segunda
venida, como se encuentra
en las antÃfonas O
antiguas. Este tÃtulo
aparece en el Leccionario
entre las opciones de
Aleluya para el común
de la SantÃsima Virgen
MarÃa y, de hecho,
está asignado a la
fiesta de Nuestra
Señora de Guadalupe,
celebrada dentro del
tiempo de Adviento. Como
tal, la música es en
esencia de
adviento—alegre y
llena de esperanza. ~~~~~
h composed the cantata
Jesus schlaft, was soll
ich hoffen [Jesus sleeps,
what hope have I] BWV 81
for the fourth Epiphany
Sunday, 1724. The cantata
is structured as a little
drama: In the beginning,
fear prevails. The seas
rage and Jesus is asleep.
The threateningly foaming
waves are vividly
depicted in the soughing
string accompaniment of
the tenor aria. Jesus's
words Ihr Kleinglaubigen,
warum seid ihr so
furchtsam? [You of little
faith, why are you so
fearful?] are set as a
bass arioso at the center
of the cantata; they
provide the turning
point. In the subsequent
bass aria, the towering
seas are silenced. A
recitative - Wohl mir
[Well for me] - leads
into the closing chorale
