Noël 2 is an exciting collection of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany music for mixed voice choirs, which follows on from the highly acclaimed Noël! Volume 1 (Catalogue No. NOV310800). The contents range from the Renaissance to the present: from Byrd and Sweelinck, via Bach, familiar settings of traditional and lesser known carols through the ages to Howells and Leighton, and work by today's composers including Richard Rodney Bennett, Eric Whitacre, John Tavener Tarik O'Regan and Richard Allain. Mixed voice choirs of all levels will find here new arrangements of favourite carols as well as stimulating works for the Christmas season, from the easy to learn to the more challenging and unconventional. Selected and edited by David Hill, Choral Advisor to Novello, Chief Conductor of the BBC singers, Musical Director of The Bach Choir, Chief Conductor of The Southern Sinfonia and Music Director of Leeds Philharmonic Society. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate by the University of Southampton in 2002 in recognition of his Services to Music. 'Noël was a welcome addition to the Christmas list for decent standard choirs - Noël 2 adds even more to the repertoire in a handy volume... The main enticements are some fantastic new arrangements of old favourites, a number of works previously only available in single sheets (Whitacre's Lux Arumque among others) and some fantastic new surprises. Adrian Peacock's Venite, Gaudete is a wonderfully original and vibrant setting, Richard Rodney Bennet's I Wonder as I Wander is both reflective and effective, and there are plenty more. Sing Judith Weir's special new choral piece I Love All Beauteous Things
Master of the Queen's Music, Judith Weir, has been commissioned by St Paul's Cathedral in London to write a piece for SATB choir and organ in celebration of HM The Queen's 90th birthday in 2016. The piece is now available from Chester Music, so that choirs all over the world can join in with the festivities. Churches and other local organisations are planning events on Sunday 12th June and many may want to include this approachable setting of Robert Bridges' poem.
Directed by Andrew Carwood, the St Paul's Cathedral Choir will perform I love all beauteous things as part of the National Service of Thanksgiving which will take place on at 11am on 10 June in the presence of HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. At the service the Archbishop of Canterbury will give the address and the Prime Minister will read a lesson. The event will be televised live on BBC1.

COMPOSER'S NOTE
At the suggestion of Michael Hampel, Precentor of St Paul's Cathedral, I have set words by Robert Bridges, who was Poet Laureate from 1913-1930. Bridges was an outstanding humanitarian and writer, whose poetry has inspired me before in The Voice of Desire, a song-cycle for mezzo-soprano and piano. This short, fast-tempo setting aims to emulate the swift, fleet-footed rhyme and metre of the two-verse poem, with its unobtrusive but telling reference to 'man in his hasty days'.

Fifty Carols for Christmas and Advent. Par WILLCOCKS DAVID / RUTTER JOHN. Un deuxième recueil de 50 chants de Noël, principalement pour SATB, certains non accompagnés, et quelques accompagnements ayant pour piano, ou un organe, ou un orchestre, ou ensemble de cuivres. Beaucoup de chants de Noël sont à partir de sources traditionnelles, réarrangées: parmi les éléments composée spécialement pour ce volume sont des chants par William Walton, Benjamin Britten, Richard Rodney Bennett et William Mathias.
Matériau instrumental pour la plupart des articles accompagnés est disponible à la location. Huit Chants pour cuivres pour les 5 et 8 cuivres partie (pour accompagner des chants des chorales de chants de 1 et Carols for Choirs 2) sont également en vente. John Rutter est né à Londres en 1945 et a étudié la musique au Clare College, Cambridge. Ses compositions embrassent la musique chorale, orchestrale et instrumentale, et il a édité ou co-édité plusieurs anthologies chorale dont quatre pour des volumes de Carols chorales avec Sir David Willcocks et l'Oxford Choral Classics série. De 1975 à 1979, il a été directeur de la musique au Clare College, et en 1981 il a formé son propre choeur, les Cambridge Singers. Il partage maintenant son temps entre la composition et la conduite et est recherché comme un chef d'orchestre invité pour le leader mondial des chorales et orchestres.
Né en 1919, David Willcocks a commencé sa carrière musicale comme choriste à l'Abbaye de Westminster, plus tard, remportant des bourses à Clifton College et King 's College, Cambridge. Après son service de guerre, il a été élu Fellow du Collège King, et plus tard devint organiste de Salisbury et de cathédrales de Worcester, alors que la conduite des Three Choirs Festival à Worcester.
