Jorgen
Jersild's music is always
marked by a timbral
refinement with a certain
inspiration from Cesar
Franck and a persistently
seamless musical timing.
His early works sit in
the intersection between
the Danish and French
traditions, whose
inspirations he later
synthesized into his own
personal style, as can be
heard in Three Romantic
Songs for Chorus ,
composed in 1971. Jorgen
Jersild (1913-2004) was a
Danish composer and
pedagogue. He studied in
Paris and at the
University of Copenhagen,
before becoming a teacher
at the Royal Danish
Academy of Music for over
thirty years. During this
time he wrote several
successful textbooks on
solfege and musical
theory.

been teaching at the

at Nurnberg. We have

The
“Missa brevis in E
flat minor†for
mixed choir a cappella
has been composed in the
tradition of the short
Mass (without Credo) and
can be easily managed by
most choirs. Thanks to
its conciseness, it is
suitable for use in
church services, while
its delightful harmonic
layout and consciously
simple melodies (with
clear allusions to folk
music) also make it
perfect for concert
performance.
â€
œMy music is my own and
I have never tried to be
original. That has always
been my motto and I have
only tried to use music
to express all the
feelings which life has
to offer. This has led
people to describe my
music as ‘so sad
that it sounds like birds
who have lost their
wings’ but also as
‘the happiest
classical music that we
have ever
heard‘. My
compositions are almost
all sacred. They express
not only my own faith but
also my appreciation and
respect for the timeless
texts that have been used
for centuries and
centuries.“

The cantata
Sei Lob und Ehr dem
hochsten Gut (All glory
to the Lord of Lords) BWV
117 is one of a small
group of Bach's chorale
cantatas which use
exclusively the text of
the chorale, including in
the three recitatives and
three arias. Only the
autograph score of the
cantata survives;
although this enables an
approximate dating to be
made (c. 1730), it does
not give the occasion for
which the cantata was
written. The choice of
chorale may indicate it
was composed for a
wedding. Recently it has
been suggested that the
occasion for its
composition was the
birthday of the Duke of
Weissenfels in 1731; but
there is no firm evidence
to support either theory.
The cantata opens with an
extended movement for
chorus in which Bach
contrasts the concertante
orchestra with festive,
almost homophonic choral
writing. This chorus
movement is repeated at
the end. A simple chorale
movement which comes
fourth indicates that the
nine-movement cantata was
performed in two
sections. Score and parts
available separately -
see item CA.3111700.

RD TIL ANDEN UDGAVE
Siden
Lydformning-Kordramatik
blev udarbejdet i de
forrygende tressere, de
vilde eksperimenters tid,
har udviklingen
stabiliseret sig en
del. Hvor tit horer
man i dag om happenings
eller antimusik? Det har
ogsa vist sig, at mange
af forsogene med ny
notation har vaeret for
vidtgaende, derfor har
det vaeret nodvendigt at
revidere andenudgaven og
fjerne de mere
modepraegede pafund fra
68. Men ellers er
bogens grundide uaendret.
Satserne kan udfores af
folk uden saerlige
forudsaetninger i
korsang, ligesom der
heller ikke anvendes
instrumenter eller
rekvisitter. Satserne
fungerer bedst med
grupper pa mindst 25. Det
kreative element
ogimprovisationsstyringen
er stadig en vigtig del
af bogen. Det er
meget betydningsfuldt, at
den enkelte korsanger i
gruppen fornemmer sit
specielle ansvar for den
overordnede helhed.
