Thomas Campion's Never weather-beaten sail is a sprightly text that powerfully evokes the sailor's plea for God's calming presence upon the sea's unrelenting rushing waves. At the opening of this work for unaccompanied mixed voices, the jaunty alto/tenor movement in thirds symbolises the curling waves of the undulating sea, the mellifluous soprano melody represents the boat's sails, and the bass section's never-changing 'A' provides the anchor. All four voices then come together in homophony, urging God to 'come quickly...and take my soul to rest?. Rather than a simple repetition of thematic material in the manner of a standard hymn, the texture alters through the rest of the work until the very end where all voices gradually fade away into the distance, leaving what seems like a lone voice in the wilderness to cry 'to Thee?. Contrasting to other well-known setting of this text, this new work provides a fresh interpretation, suitable for intermediate choirs. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) A Cappella

Sing, Choirs! is a library in miniature. It contains many of the Christian church's popular traditional anthems, including at least one example that will be suitable for each of the major services of the year. A number of Anglican chants (Psalms, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) are included, set out in a way that should enable those who are unfamiliar with the style to perform them easily. The selection of movements from the Mass can be used to enrich the music of the liturgy in services. Many of the works in Sing, Choirs! are presented in their original form, such as Bruckner's Locus Iste and Mozart's Laudate Dominum . Others are arrangements, adaptations or longer pieces, abridged to bring them into the scope of a useable anthem, including choral arrangements of Handel's Largo , the Ave Marias by Schubert and by Bach and Gounod, and Franck's Panis Angelicus amongst many others. This collection has practicability as a priority. The Organ parts can be played on either the Piano or the Keyboard. Much of the music in Sing, Choirs! will be suitable for special occasions, making this an indispensable volume for choirs singing at weekly church services, weddings, funerals and in the concert hall. / Choeur Mixte (SATB) Et Orgue

Reginald Jacques est né en 1894 à Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire et a étudié au Collège de la Reine, à Oxford, où il devint plus tard organiste et directeur de la musique en 1926. Reginald Jacques a également été chef d'orchestre de la Société d'Oxford Orchestra de 1930 à 1936. De 1931 à 1960, il a été chef du Choeur Bach de Londres. En 1936 il fonda sa propre orchestre Jacques, qu'il a dirigé jusqu'en 1960. En 1954, il a été fait Commandeur de l'Ordre de l'Empire britannique. Il mourut en 1969. John Rutter est né à Londres en 1945 et a étudié la musique au Clare College, Cambridge. Ses compositions embrassent la musique chorale, orchestrale et instrumentale, et il a édité ou co-édité plusieurs anthologies chorale dont quatre pour des volumes de Carols chorales avec Sir David Willcocks et l'Oxford Choral Classics série.
