Górecki's Church Songs, based on melodies from Rev Jan Siedlecki's ?piewniki Ko?cielne ('church songbooks'), were composed in 1986. This edition is based on the PWM edition of 2013, which was produced with the assistance of Anna Górecka and Miko?aj Górecki. A special feature of the Boosey publications is the new, alternative Latin sung text by Edward Tambling, which will be attractive to the many choirs who do not wish to sing in Polish. The Latin text is carefully crafted to fit Górecki's score and is both poetic and sensitive to the devotional aspect of the songs. English translations from the Polish are also included, for reference only.The three publications present the songs for sacred use according to devotional subject-matter. In concert performances the songs, or a selection of them, may be performed in any order and combination. Vol 1 contains six songs in praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The seven songs in vol 2 take the themes of Good Friday, the Crucifixion, The Cross of Christ and the Resurrection. The Gibbons Hymnal contains the 17 hymn tunes composed by Orlando Gibbons for George Wither's The Hymnes and Songs of the Church (1623), many of which are still popular today. This is the first modern edition which incorporates Wither's hymn texts beyond the first verses. Gibbons composed treble and bass lines for the hymns - editor David Skinner has constructed the inner voices to create a collection of pieces that can be performed either as hymns or as simple anthems. Also in this volume are Gibbons's ten surviving full anthems, including popular works such as Almighty And Everlasting God and his masterpiece, O Clap Your Hands , alongside lesser-known compositions such as the beautiful miniature, O Lord, I Lift My Heart To Thee , and, presented here in a new reconstruction, I Am The Resurrection And The Life . / Choeur Mixte (SATB)

Dakers Lionel est né à Rochester, Kent, en 1924, et mourut en 2003. Il a été directeur de la Royal School of Church Music de 1972 à 1989 et jouit d'une réputation internationale comme un ambassadeur de l'excellence dans la musique d'église. Il a également été pendant plus de 30 ans un examinateur pour l'Associated Board de l'Ecole Royale de Musique. Il a obtenu un doctorat en musique de Lambeth en 1979, est devenu un Fellow du Royal College of Music en 1980 et a été nommé CBE en 1983. John Scott est né en 1956 à Wakefield dans le Yorkshire, où il était un chantre de cathédrale. En 1974, il devient chercheur d'orgue au Collège St-Jean, à Cambridge. En quittant Cambridge, il fut nommé organiste adjoint à Londres deux cathédrales anglicane St-Paul et de Southwark, devenant finalement organiste et directeur de musique de Saint-Paul en 1990. Sing, Choirs! is a library in miniature. It contains many of the Christian church's popular traditional anthems, including at least one example that will be suitable for each of the major services of the year. A number of Anglican chants (Psalms, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) are included, set out in a way that should enable those who are unfamiliar with the style to perform them easily. The selection of movements from the Mass can be used to enrich the music of the liturgy in services. Many of the works in Sing, Choirs! are presented in their original form, such as Bruckner's Locus Iste and Mozart's Laudate Dominum . Others are arrangements, adaptations or longer pieces, abridged to bring them into the scope of a useable anthem, including choral arrangements of Handel's Largo , the Ave Marias by Schubert and by Bach and Gounod, and Franck's Panis Angelicus amongst many others. This collection has practicability as a priority. The Organ parts can be played on either the Piano or the Keyboard.
