La renommée de Carl Maria von Weber repose principalement sur , Der Freischütz '. Le succès sans précédent de cet opéra éclipsé tous ses autres travaux et a contribué à leur chute de plus en plus dans l'oubli . Certains travaux tels que , Preciosa ', , Oberon , et , Euryanthe ' , les ouvertures, concertos en solo et sonates pour piano , des lieder et chambre oeuvres jouissent d'une grande popularité et ont été largement connus en Allemagne et à l'étranger aussi tard que la deuxième moitié de la 19ème siècle . Cependant , toute chance d'une renaissance de Weber et influentoeuvre considérable a été perdu dans les années 1920 , quand une édition complète - commencé par Hans Joachim Moser et avec les contributeurs potentiels, y compris Wilhelm Kempff , Hans Pfitzner , Max von Schillings , Fritz Stein et Richard Strauss - a échoué après le troisième volume .Depuis , il ya eu de nombreuses tentatives pour relancer une édition complète des oeuvres de Weber , mais que ce genre de projet , il aurait fallu la collaboration de chercheurs des deux côtés de la frontière inter- allemande , la situation politique après 1945 n'était pas propice à une telle entreprise . Oratorio in three parts. Par HAENDEL GEORG FRIEDRICH. In quite characteristic fashion for the times, Handel's opera ; Alessandro looks at various episodes in the life and rule of Alexander the Great (356 323 BC). This legendary warrior and military commander conquered large parts of the world before meeting an untimely end at the age of 32. A central conflict in Handel's opera is Alessandro being in love with two women, Lisaura and Rossane, who compete for his favour. In addition, his claim to be of divine parentage is underlined, occasioning him to demand the subservience of his followers, which meets with vigorous disapproval. Handel composed ; Alessandro for the Royal Academyof Music to a libretto by Paolo Antonio Rolli in the 1725/26 season. The work was premiered at the King's Theatre in London on 5 May 1726. ; Alessandro was the first of five operas for the Royal Academy, operas which saw Handel compose for three of the most famous singers of his time: Francesco Bernardi (called Senesino) Francesca Cuzzoni and Faustina Bordoni. Ortensio Mauro's libretto ; La superbia d'Alessandro, which was performed for the first time in Hanover in 1690 in a musical setting by Agostino Steffani and staged again in the city the following year under the title ; Il zelo di Leonato but with numerous alterations, served as the source text for Handel's ; Alessandro. One of the main aspects Rolli had to consider when preparing the libretto for the London performances was to keep the roles of the famous singers of the Royal Academy well balanced, yet at the same time to engineer a musical contest between the prima donnas Cuzzoni and Bordoni (Lisaura and Rossane) as well. From a business point of view, it made good sense, for such rivalry would surely increase public interest in the opera. It is no longer possible to ascertain which changes Handel made during the following performance series of the 1727/28 season. For the performance series of 1732/33, Handel made substantial revisions to the opera: six numbers were deleted in their entirety, the finale in part as well, and the recitatives were made much shorter, with the parts of Cleone and Leonato omitted / Oratorio / Répertoire / Choeur Mixte

Over the years, the need for a new edition of Mahler's Symphony #2 became apparent for several reasons. First, many new sources for this work have become accessible since 1970, when Erwin Ratz completed the first critical edition of this symphony, the most significant being Mahler's personal reference score in which he recorded changes to be made (his last entries were made in September 1910). The second reason was the significant strengthening of the editorial standards of the critical edition in recent years. The music is now computer-generated. Previously, changes to the score could be made only by retouching the film of old engravings. Computerizationalso ensures a concurrence between the score and performance materials. Editorially, the new edition benefits from expanded texts that describe and assess the source materials, document and explain the editors' decisions and provide detailed information on the work's origin, the history of the published scores, performance practices, etc. Over the past five years, Renare Stark-Voit and Gilbert Kaplan, editors of the new edition of Symphony #2, have identified, evaluated and analyzed every significant source, and as a result of their work a substantial number of errors have been corrected. Handel's masterful L'Allegro, Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato have been expertly-edited by Donald Burrows to present this complete vocal score, arranged for two Soprano, Tenor and Bass Soli, with an SATB Chorus and Orchestra.This complete edition of L'Allegro, Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato features the 1740, 1741 and 1743 scores, reflecting Handel's personal changes, involving alternative and additional movements. The 1740 score is a complete reconstruction, requiring two Soprano, a Tenor and a Bass soloists. For the longer 1741 score, Handel added extra movements to accommodate additional soloists, the complete version of which is included here. Finally, the 1743 score boasts a radical change from the previous years, with a removal of part three and a significant rearrangement of other movements. L'Allegro, Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato was first performed on the 27th of February 1740 at the Lincoln's Inn Fields theatre, after just over a month of drafting. The work is a setting of a libretto by James Harris and Charles Jennens, based on John Milton's two complementary yet contrasting poems about the relative virtues of happiness and melancholy. This edition of L'Allegro, Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato presents practical versions of the score which are based on the musical schemes of Handel's performances in 1741 and 1743. Pacific Dreams describes the experience of Miguel, a traveling composer from Spain who, feeling somewhat alienated from his homeland, is wandering through an area of Sydney known as The Rocks. At a small outdoor market in a typical street of this oldcolonial neighbourhood, he discovers a print of William DeShazos painting 'Pacific Dreams' Portrayed in the painting is the surf of one of the exotic islands in the Pacific. Next, with the impressive Sydney Harbour Bridge looming over the narrowstreets of The Rocks, he envisions sultry Pacific beaches. Suddenly a theme he once composed about the lakes in Japan comes to him. Is it the Asian influences present in cosmopolitan Sydney that bring this theme to mind? Or perhaps the waters aroundSydney, over which he could sail to Tahiti? He is uncertain. Could this same theme be used to create a new composition about his feelings for the metropolis Sydney? How then to work his Pacific Dreams into the mix? Miguel is certainly no fan ofHawaiian music. Mayby he could use the vocabularies of islands like Hawaii and Tahiti, their beautiful vowel combinations being sung ad libitum by a mixed choir. With these ideas and his newly purchased print of 'Pacific Dreams', he boards the Metroat Circular Quay. He has a final glimpse of the harbour and the Sydney Opera House as the train races into the ground. On to the hotel! To work! He must compose!Maestoso : Miguel is impressed as he gazes upon the Sydney Harbour Bridge. And yet, hewants to go away from this city. Away, to an exotic island in the Pacific. Steady Rock : In the Rocks, musicians are playing at a square. Miguel basks in the atmosphere but at the same time he is fantasizing about Hawaii and Tahiti. Andante Lamentoso :In his hotel room, Miguel is feeling sad and lonely in this big city. He takes comfort in his 'Pacific Dreams'. Allegro : Miguel boards the boat that takes him from Darling Harbour to Circular Quay. In his mind he is traveling on to Hawaii. Or is ithome, where the bolero is playing?
