Par MARTIN MATTHEW. Written for the choir of New College, Oxford, Ut Unum Sint! (That they may be one) sets words from St John’s gospel in which Christ prays that all may be one. This was the title of Pope John Paul II’s encyclical on church unity. Combining atmospheric sections with more dramatic material, it was given its first performance by the choir of New College in St Peter’s, Rome in June 2015. SATB with Organ. Cantus Missae. Par RHEINBERGER JOSEF GABRIEL. According to Otto Ursprung, Cantus missae is the “most beautiful, pure vocal music of the 19th century”. This is Rheinberger’s only Mass written for double choir. It obtains its special character through the use of compositional techniques of ancient classical vocal polyphony, which are combined with functional harmony and expressive, songlike voice-leading. Rheinberger was honored for this Mass with the Gregorius Medal in 1879 by Pope Leo XIII. Rheinberger's Missa in E for SATB.
