Written as
a prompt for discussing
diversity, equity, and
inclusion, this heartfelt
song favors no group over
another, but rather
emphasizes the value of
each individual. Follow
the ever-changing texture
as an earnest unison
melody blossoms into a
fully harmonized bridge,
before new and compelling
lines are introduced and
interwoven. In the end,
you'll have a patchwork
quilt with many unique
squares joined together
to create one thing of
beauty.

Weâ
™re counting down the
days to
Christmas…that most
wonderful time of the
year! And somehow, it
always feels so much
longer than the actual
364 days it takes for
that special day to
arrive…that one day
each year when family and
friends come together to
celebrate the joy, peace,
hope, and love that came
into our world through
the birth of our Savior!
What better way
to bring all that
anticipation into focus
and usher in the season
than with the new
Christmas musical from
Marty Parks
and Word Music &
Church Resources,
Waiting for
Christmas! This
delightful, nostalgic,
and heartfelt musical
comes to you wrapped in
Marty Park’s
signature format…
Large-Print-No-Repeats
-Perfect-For-Any-Choir!
b> More specifically,
these specially designed
musicals from Marty come
your way perfect for
Senior Adult Choirs,
yet perfectly
appropriate for every
choir!
Featuring a heartwarming
story of a letter found
in an old family Bible,
this musical introduces a
young girl named Sarah
writing to her
“Nanaâ€,
expressing her joy and
delight as she
anticipates the holiday
and, once again, getting
the family together at
Christmastime. The
memories of past
Christmases combined with
the expectation of
precious new memories yet
to be made create a vivid
backdrop for sharing the
real reason for the
season…Jesus!

The
“Hallelujahâ€
chorus is the final
movement of part two of
Handel’s Messiah,
the part that comments on
Christ’s
crucifixion,
resurrection, and
ascension. The text of
the chorus, assembled
from Biblical passages by
the oratorio’s
librettist, Charles
Jennens, is from
Revelation 19:6, 11:15,
and 19:16:
“Hallelujah, for
the Lord God omnipotent
reigneth. The kingdom of
this world is become the
kingdom of our Lord and
of his Christ, and he
shall reign for ever and
ever. KING OF KINGS, AND
LORD OF LORDS.â€
This edition has been
prepared from the first
published score in 1767,
with comparisons to
Handel’s autograph
manuscript now housed in
the British Museum. The
text has been reproduced
here without alterations.
However, the beamings of
the vocal parts have been
modernized for ease of
reading (the original
material has flags
instead of beams for
every separate syllable).
The piano accompaniment
is a reduction of the
orchestral material: the
first and second violin
parts are represented in
the upper staff, with
only occasional inclusion
of the viola, trumpet,
and timpani parts, the
basso continuo, in its
original form, is in the
bottom staff. The GIA
Historical Music Series
edited by Dennis Shrock,
presents repertoire
suitable for performance
by public school, college
and university, church,
and community ensembles,
with the purpose of
making available to
today’s conductors
lesser-known and
previously
difficult-to-procure
historical masterpieces.
The music, drawn from the
Renaissance through the
Romantic eras, is in
performance editions
based on the most current
and rigorous scholarly
research. The musical
scores reflect original
intent of notation, with
all editorial markings
and emendations clearly
identified as such. In
addition, preface
material accompanying the
music contains literal
translations of foreign
language texts and
information regarding the
lives of the composers,
genres, and relevant
performance practices.
Dennis Shrock is Director
of Choral Activities at
Texas Christian

called one of the top
choral scholars in the
United States and has
received a number of
awards for his work. He
received a bachelor's

the musical package. The
lyrics speak from the

For SATB
and piano, this original
setting of Maya Angelou's
poem, Prayer is in a
soulful 6/8. (The
accompaniment
occasionally quotes Lift
Every Voice and Sing,
which gives you an idea
of the tempo and
feeling.) Beginning with
a series of thanks, the
piece has a slower middle
section with a series of
petitions, beginning, For
those who have no voice,
we ask you to speak. Then
the music of the first
section reappears and the
piece closes with a
prayer for peace. This is
an unusual and powerful
musical offering for any
occasion focusing on
justice and social
concerns.

To benefit
Chorus America, Stucky
allowed himself to be
auctioned off as a prize
- the high bidder would
receive a new work from
the composer. After a few
years and not really
hearing anything, Stucky
suddenly found himself up
against a deadline. He
reached back to a
favorite poem by A.R.
Ammons, Eyesight, which,
he says, Won't let...his
reader rest till the very
last word...one of those
sudden insights that
leave us
breathless.. This
piece has an odd history.
A few years ago, I agreed
to be one of
the“prizesâ€
in an auction to benefit
Chorus America: the
highest bidder wouldget a
new piece from me, while
their money went to the
organization. Thewinning
bid came from a
collection of several
professional choruses
anddirectors. But I was
always a little vague
about the details, and,
hearingnothing more about
it for a few years,
forgot the whole
thing.One day I received
a message from Thomas
Edward Morgan, directorof
the Ars Nova Chamber
Singers in Boulder: they
had scheduled thepremiere
of my new piece for a few
weeks later, and could
they have themusic,
please? I needed a text,
quickly, and (as usual) I
was in a Los Angeleshotel
room, not at home with my
books. So I turned to the
internet andsoon tracked
down my favorite poet,
A.R. Ammons
(1926-2001).Once I
stumbled on
“Eyesight,†I
remembered having loved
the poemyears before.
Archie must have loved
it, too, because he
included it bothin his
Collected Poems 1951-1971
and in the later Selected
Poems. It haseverything
you want in an Archie
Ammons poem: what Edward
Hirschcalled his
“offbeat, sideways,
unpredictable
radiance,†his
“homespunglory.â
It has one of his
trademark conversations
with a mountain
(perhapsfrom his native
North Carolina), it has
the fluid motion from one
line tothe next
(enjambment, if you want
to get technical) that
won’t let him
orhis reader rest till
the very last word of the
very last line, and it
has in thatlast line one
of those sudden insights
that leave us breathless:
“some thingsthat go
are gone.â€I miss
Archie, but he’s
not gone. I’m
grateful for the
wonderful poems heleft
us, and I’m
grateful that he was
always generous and kind
when I hadthe chutzpah to
add my music to his.
