“Comp
osed by Pierre Gabaye,
Sonatina is a piece for
Bb Clarinet and Piano
lasting 12 minutes.
Divided into three
distinctive parts, this
piece is rated as
difficult and can be
played by advanced
players and above levels.
The first part, Allegro
(4/4, tempo: 120-126), is
really energetic as a
start evolved shortly
after between slower and
faster sections. The
second part, slower
(Largo), starts with the
Piano on its own for two
measures. This part is
strongly influenced by
Jazz and features long
Clarinet lines supported
by a rich Piano
accompaniment. Finally,
the third part is really
fast (Prestissimo) and
displays a Piano more
present, slightly taking
over the Clarinet. This
really melodious piece is
perfect to be played in
contests or for a
recital.â€.

Followi
ng the huge success of
their instrumental method
Look, Listen &
Learn, Michiel
Oldenkamp and Jaap
Kastelein have focussed
their attention on school
bands and devised a
completely new method
that can be used in both
instrumental lessons and
class bands or wind
ensembles.
Learning Music
Together is
the new method for young
wind players and
percussionists, aged
eight and above.
Learning Music
Together has
been developed in close
collaboration with
professionals from the
class band world, music
schools, and academies in
the Netherlands and
Germany.
Learning
Music Together
combines
instrumental lessons with
a course for class band.
The clarinet lessons
offer clarinet -specific
items such as new notes
and technical exercises
while at the same time
supporting the learning
of the class band, with a
focus on rhythm, melodic
structure and playing
music together.
The
method consists of two
volumes. Volume One
introduces the first
instrumental notes in
unison and then develops
part-playing with duets.
Volume Two builds on the
skills taught in the
first volume and
introduces pieces in
three parts.In addition,
supplementary material is
available on the
extensive website, e.g.
demo- and accompaniment
tracks for all pieces,
additional pieces of
music (well-known songs)
and video tutorials.
Learning Music
Together is
logically structured and
illustrated in a
child-friendly way - a
perfect combination for
young musicians!

Young
players who are just
starting to read music
can find it difficult to
follow a duet or trio.
This book solves the
problem with color coded
music, making it easy for
clarinet beginners to
follow their ensemble
part.Students only need
to know 4 or 5 notes to
play the first duets in
this book, which covers
Beginner and Preliminary
levels.The music spans a
wide range of composers,
as well as traditional
tunes from around the
world. There is a
selection of festive
music, a section of
rounds, plus there are
warm up exercises, each
focusing on one aspect of
ensemble technique. The
arrangements by Karen
North have been prepared
in consultation with
clarinet specialist Sally
Lucas.The arrangements
work well for two players
up to a large clarinet
ensemble. Many pieces
offer maximum flexibility
as they can be played as
a Duet (use the two upper
parts) or as a Trio.Free
