Keyboard fireworksAs early as 1743, while Handel was still alive, Francesco Geminiani produced an arrangement of the 'Water Music? for keyboard instruments, thereby making it possible to perform this popular work in domestic surroundings. Then, presumably in 1749, an unknown musician arranged the 'Music for the Royal Fireworks? for transverse flute or violin and harpsichord. In addition to these two contemporary versions, this edition also contains an arrangement by the editor for harpsichord or organ, based on the first edition. Though both early sources explicitly mention a harpsichord, the arrangements can also be performed effectively note-for-note on the organ. As the surviving anonymous version merely places a solo part and a figured bass on a two-stave system, our edition is accompanied by performance material with one part each for transverse flute/oboe/violin and violoncello/double bass, plus a figured bass realisation.- Musical text with arrangements by two Handel contemporaries as well as the editor's own arrangement for harpsichord or organ- All editorial additions are clearly marked- Equally effective when performed note-for-note on the organ / Ensemble Mixte

Avec 8 Préludes et 1 Allemande De 'L'Art De Toucher Le Clavecin' (1716-1717). Par COUPERIN LOUIS. Once again the French musicologist Denis Herlin, who mastered the harpsichord under the tutelage of such keyboard legends as Kenneth Gilbert and Huguette Dreyfus, has presented an exemplary edition of a classic from the harpsichord repertoire.' (Jury of the German Music Edition Prize on BA 10844)
Bärenreiter presents Book II of Couperin's 'Pièces de clavecin”, first published in 1717, In addition the eight preludes and one allemande from his treatise 'L'Art de toucher le clavecin” are included in the appendix. For the first time Denis Herlin has evaluated the many later impressions of the original print, most of which he unearthed himself in international libraries. By preserving the essential features of the original print while largely dispensing with disruptive page-turns within the pieces, the volume brings modern performers close to the special sound of this music. Rounding off this pioneering new edition are an extensive Foreword, notes on historical performance practice, a comprehensive glossary, facsimile pages and a detailed Critical Commentary.
- Pioneering edition with the first-time evaluation of an extensive body of sources
- Includes Couperin's original expression marks
- Contains nine original compositions from 'L'Art de toucher le clavecin”(1716-17)/ Répertoire / Clavecin

The volume also includes a set of six overtures for the harpsichord, ?Being proper Pieces for the Improvement of the Hand?, which were first published in 1745 and are arrangements of earlier orchestral originals. / Date parution : 2022-10-25/ Recueil / Clavecin

Par COUPERIN FRANCOIS / GILBERT. The first volume of Couperin 's Harpsichord Pieces does not contain a date of publication, however, it is thought to have been composed during 1716-1717, due to the address which the composer gave on his other Harpsichord compositions. Yet, the compilation remains a favourite. François Couperin (1668-1733) is often nicknamed 'Couperin the Great' to distinguish him from other members of the musical family. Many of the composer's works have picturesque titles. Examples of this in his first volume of Pieces for Harpsichord include, Les Papillons (The Butterflies), L'Enchanteresse (The Enchanting) and LesPlaisirs de Saint Germain en Laÿ e (The Pleasures of Saint Germain en Laÿ e). Couperin 's moods are expressed through choices of keys, adventurous harmonies and discords. Par PIETILA ESA. The title of Esa Pietilä?s solo harpsichord work Fata morgana (2019) refers to a special weather con-dition, which creates illusory effect of mirage-like fairy castle-like monuments in the horizon of the sea. The piece brings forth the frightening bass sonority on double manual, full size harpsichord and the brightness on the treble and makes a dialogue out of them. ?I got fasci-nated by the sonority, character and power of the low register sound on the instrument, es-pecially when used in non-traditional way and found some kind of especially delightful and outlandish cluster-mud and airy glimmering things which seem to play together?, the com-poser describes. The challenges of the piece lie in rhythmical ideas, which are surprisingly multi-faceted and in the short, improvised section. Duration: c. 6? / Date parution : 2022-05-31/ Répertoire / Clavecin

talian composer, Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) is well-known for his Keyboard compositions. His 555 Keyboard Sonatas remain ever popular to this day, and it is for this reason that this second volume is indispensable toperformers of the genre. Originally composed for the Harpsichord, Organ or early Pianoforte, the Sonatas display the riveting use of discords and unconventional modulations to remote keys. It is also thought that much ofScarlatti\'s Keyboard music contains influences of Iberian music, considering that he spent much of his working life in the service of the Spanish and Portuguese royal families. The second volume, comprising Sonatas 53-103,includes the popular and recognised Sonatas in F minor (K. 69) and B minor (K. 87). Composed in a Baroque style, the whole series features 133 pieces for advanced players. Louis Couperin (1626-1661) was a French composer and performer, who created many pieces for Organ and for Harpsichord who later became musician at the court.
