Press The formal
inspiration for this
piece came from early
Italian keyboard toccatas
(those of Frescobaldi are
probably the most famous
today, though there are
certainly many others).
However, the early
influences do not come
exclusively from a single
source. The toccatas of
Hassler, the ricercari of
Steigleder, the fantasias
of Cornet and Kerckhoven,
the fugues of Couperin,
and anonymous late
medieval keyboard music
all are thrown into the
mix, and blended with a
contemporary use of mixed
modality. This piece may
be played on any keyboard
instrument (organ, piano,
harmonium/reed organ,
harpsichord, clavichord,
or electronic
keyboard).

At
the heart of George
Berg's oeuvre are his
seven collections of
keyboard music. His
sonatinas for harpsichord
were a by-product of his
teaching, appearing in
three volumes between
1759 and 1762.
Technically fairly
simple, these are lively,
inventive and finely
polished works. Berg's
sonatinas are as well
suited to the piano as
the harpsichord sonatas
of Domenico Scarlatti
from which they draw so
much inspiration,
provided that the player
makes sparing (or no) use
of the sustaining pedal
and avoids over-fussy
dynamic variation.

A set of 24
three movement sonatas
that can be played on any
keyboard instrument
(organ, piano,
harmonium/reed organ,
harpsichord, clavichord,
or electronic keyboard).
The composer writes the
following: My inspiration
for composing these
sonatas comes as a direct
result of the music of
the Renaissance and early
Baroque. It is an attempt
by this composer to
capture in his own
musical vocabulary some
of the 'essence' that
pervades the music of
these past centuries.
These pieces are easy to
play and extremely useful
for services, recitals,
or teaching.

Sally Ann
Morris and Adam Tice
began working together in
2008, when Sally was
asked to compose a few
tunes for Adam’s
first collection, Woven
into Harmony. This
initial collaboration was
the beginning of what has
become a dynamic
partnership. In this
symbiotic pairing new
inspiration emerged,
generating contemporary
but timeless music where
text and tune seamlessly
unite.
    The a
cappella choral writing
on “Will You Hold
Me in the Lightâ€
and “This Is My
Body†is so lush
and intricate that
accompaniment is not
necessary, while the
poetry of “God Give
Me Faith like a
Child†and
“Breath of God,
Breath of Peaceâ€
illustrates the innocence
and fearlessness
essential in our love and
trust of God.
Stylistically ranging
from a cappella choral to
Latin jazz, each piece
offers a musical and
textual sophistication
that powerfully conveys
themes of journey and
longing for God’s
guidance.

These three
dances (pavane, tordion,
and allemande) are
inspired by Renaissance
forms, although they
employ a harmonic and
melodic language that
blends allusions to
Renaissance harmony with
more contemporary
elements. They may be
played on any keyboard
instrument. Organ and
harpsichord are the most
likely candidates, but
performance on
clavichord, harmonium,
reed organ, piano, or
even electronic keyboard
is also possible.

Press Ricercari are three
pieces inspired by the
keyboard music of the
early and mid 16th
century. During this
time, the genre of the
ricercare developed as a
sort of instrumental
motet and a kind of
proto-fugue. Each work
here is a contrapuntal
ricercare in a modal
cast, each in a different
number of voices.
However, all three blend
elements of the 16th
century style with more
contemporary sounds.
These pieces may be
played on any keyboard
instrument (organ, piano,
harmonium/reed organ,
harpsichord, clavichord,
or electronic
keyboard).

Press Inspired by Bach's
BWV 998 (a keyboard piece
likely originally
conceived for the
lautenwerk or lute
harpsichord), this piece
may be played effectively
on any keyboard
instrument (organ, piano,
harmonium/reed organ,
harpsichord, clavichord,
or electronic keyboard).
The opening triple-meter
prelude in Eb major is
sunny and bright in
character, with its
arpeggiated textures
evoking plucked strings.
The fughetta begins in
the relative minor (C),
with a darker and more
dissonantly chromatic
character; however, it
works through several
keys to end in Eb major.
The concluding allegro
returns to joyous mood of
the opening movement
(though its middle
section returns again to
C minor).
