L'Age de Noé est un arrangement que j'ai écrit pour les débuts de ma version de l'Orchestre National de Jazz en 1994, à partir d'une composition datant de 1980. C'est un morceau assez simple, de type concerto, sur une structure AAB de 3 fois 20 mesures. Dans mes orchestres, j'ai toujours souhaité que les solistes puissent changer à chaque exécution d'un arrangement. Ce fut le cas bien sûr avec l'O.N.J. Cependant, L'Age de Noé est vite devenu une sorte de morceau de bravoure pour Stefano di Battista qui l'a joué parfois à l'alto, mais le plus souvent au soprano. L'arrangement peut être joué par n'importe quel instrument soliste. Le conducteur sur deux portées sert pour toute la section rythmique. As it builds, you may recognize the chord progression to the classic pop tune, Sunny. The cowbell helps maintain the energy and drive for this chart, the solos for alto sax and trumpet are written or ad-lib, and the brass ranges are modest. Additional percussion parts can be added if desired. The lower instruments have an easy yet meaty part in this chart. Played at 132 BPM, with straight eighths, this chart is packed with goodies like written-out solos for trombone and trumpet, lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff, a few clever modulations, and a great development section.
