Par MAGALIF EUGENE. Ave Maria for Flute Choir by Eugene Magalif. From the composer: 'The creation of a new Ave Maria requires a certain amount of courage from composers. There are many versions of Ave Maria in the world and it is very risky to compete with Schubert, Bach or Caccini (Vavilov). I did not begin to compose another aria, but composed a polyphonic version, in which the intertwining voices, harmony, unusual rhythm changes and a wide palette of shades play the main role. Par LEMMENS JACQUES-NICOLAS. Fanfare by Belgian composer Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens, arranged for Flute Choir by Matt Johnston. Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens (1823?1881) is a composer unfamiliar to most, unless you happen to be either an organist, or a Belgian (or a Belgian organist!). At the age of 26, he was appointed organ teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with two of his most accomplished students being Alexandre Guilmant and Charles-Marie Widor. In 1879 he founded a school for church music in Mechelen, Belgium, which would later bear his name upon moving to Leuven in 1968. The Lemmensinstituut has since broadened its curriculum beyond church music and is a prominent, award-winning music conservatory. Par VERDI GIUSEPPE. Valzer Duetto from La Traviata, Act I, by Giuseppe Verdi, arranged for Flute Choir by Gudrun Hinze. This arrangement is dedicated to Nicola Mazzanti and the fantastic crew of teachers of the International Piccolo Flute Academy, who premiered the piece at the 2022 Annual Convention of the National Flute Association in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
