ch. The
Ukrainian Bell
Carol is part of a
large choral work
entitled Shchedryk by the
Ukrainian composer Mykola
Dmytrovich Leontovych
(1877-1921). The tune is
an adaptation of an old
'shchedrivka', a song
traditionally sung on
Ukrainian New Year's Eve
(January 13th) which
hopes for good fortune in
the year to come. The
tune has since been the
inspiration for at least
four different Christmas
carols, of which Carol
of the Bells is the
most famous. Philip
Sparke has sourced the
original Ukrainian melody
to create this stirring
arrangement.
De
Ukrainian Bell
Carol is onderdeel
van het grote koorwerk
Shchedryk van de
Oekra ense componist
Mykola Dmytrovich
Leontovych (1877-1921).
De melodie is gebaseerd
op een
‘shchedrivkaâ€
, een lied dat van
oudsher werdgezongen op
de Oekra ense
oudejaarsavond (13
januari). In
Shchedryk voegde
Leontovych de tekst toe
over de legende die
vertelt dat bij de
geboorte van Jezus alle
klokken op aarde begonnen
te luiden. Sindsdien is
deze melodiede
inspiratiebron geweest
voor ten minste vier
verschillende Christmas
carols, waarvan Carol
of the Bells de
beroemdste is. Voor dit
meeslepende arrangement
heeft Philip Sparke
echter de oorspronkelijke
Oekra ense
melodiegebruikt.

au calendrier julien)
dans l’espoir que
l’année venir
se présente sous de
bons hospices.
l’écriture de
Shchedryk, Mykola
Leontovich a choisi de
changer les paroles. Il
opte pour la légende
selon laquelle, toutes
les cloches des
églises se sont mises
carillonner joyeusement
pour annoncer la
naissance de Jésus. La
mélodie du chant a
inspiré au moins
quatre
noëlsdifférents.
Carol of the Bells
en est la version la plus
célèbre. Elle a
été adaptée en
1936 (texte et
mélodie) par Peter J.
Wilhousky (1902-1978)
d’après la
version originale de
Mykola Leontovich. Philip

basé sur la mélodie
du chant traditionnel
ukrainien pour

arrangement brillant et
pétillant.

falls into the
composer’s series

Slipstream, The

short introduction a solo

theme, accompanied by a
euphonium counter-melody.
A secondary phrase from
the horns and baritones
leads to a tutti version
of the main theme which
is followed by the

heralds thetrio section,
which features a
cantabile melody on
euphonium; this is then
taken up by the full band
after a short bridge
passage and further
change of key.This takes
us back to the home key

staccato version of the
main theme lead to a
recapitulation and a
short coda which brings
the march to a close.

appeared in the 1551
psalter Pseaumes Octante

is used as a setting for

for his paraphrase of
Psalm 100 - All People

the most familiar hymn

When Tate and

ch. Hava
Nagila (the title
means ‘let us
rejoice’) is
perhaps the best known
example of a style of
Jewish music called
‘klezmer’.
Klezmer music originated
in the
‘shtetl’
(villages) and the
ghettos of Eastern
Europe, where itinerant
Jewish troubadours, known
as
‘klezmorim’,
had performed at
celebrations,
particularly weddings,
since the early Middle
Ages.‘Klezmerâ€
is a Yiddish term
combining the Hebrew
words ‘kley’
(instrument) and
‘zemer’
(song) and the roots of
the style are found in
secular melodies, popular
dances, Jewish
‘hazanut’
(cantorial music) and
also the
‘nigunim’,
the wordless melodies
intoned by the
‘Hasidim’
(orthodox Jews).Since the
16th century, lyrics
hadbeen added to klezmer
music, due to the
‘badkhn’
(the master of ceremony
at weddings), to the
‘Purimshpil’
(the play of Esther at
Purim) and to traditions
of the Yiddish theatre,
but the term gradually
became synonymous with
instrumental music,
particularly featuring
the violin and clarinet.
The melody of Hava
Nagila was adapted
from a folk dance from
the Romanian district of
Bucovina. The commonly
used text is taken from
Psalm 118 of the Hebrew
bible.

feestelijkheden, en dan
met name

Jiddische term waarin de
Hebreeuwse woorden kley
(instrument) en zemer
(lied) zijn samengevoegd.
De wortels van de stijl
liggen in wereldlijke
melodieën,
volksdansen, de
joods-liturgische hazanut
en ook de nigunim, de
woordeloze melodieën
zoals die worden
voorgedragen
doorchassidische
(orthodoxe) joden.Sinds
de 16e eeuw zijn er aan
de klezmermuziek ook
teksten toegevoegd,
dankzij de badchen (de
ceremoniemeester bij
huwelijken), het
poerimspel (het verhaal
van Esther tijdens
Poerim/het Lotenfeest) en
tradities binnen het
Jiddische theater, maar
de term werd geleidelijk
synoniem aan
instrumentale muziek met
een hoofdrol voor de
viool en klarinet.De
melodie van Hava
Nagila is afkomstig
van een volksdans uit de
Roemeense regio
Boekovina. De meest
gebruikte tekst voor het
lied kom uit psalm 118
van de Hebreeuwse Bijbel.

ch. The Latin
American mood of the
piece is a salute to the
population of California,
a state which many feel
still clearly displays
its Mexican roots. The
melody and intoxicating
rhythm of the music oozes
excitement, thus ensuring
every single member of
your audience will go
home in a joyous mood!
In seine
Komposition Fiesta de
la Vida - einem Fest
des Lebens“ - legte
Philip Sparke das
Temperament und die
Lebensfreude
Lateinamerikas hinein.
Von den originalen
Melodien im
lateinamerikanischen Stil
werden alle auf der
Bühne und im
Zuschauerraum zum Tanzen
verführt. Absolut
ansteckend!
Le
caractère
latino-américain de la
pièce témoigne
également du
métissage de la
population californienne
qui puise son identité
et ses racines dans les
traditions culturelles
mexicaines. Néanmoins,
aucune mélodie
traditionnelle
n’apparaît dans
le développement.
Fiesta de la Vida
(“Célébration
de la vieâ€) rend
hommage la vitalité et
l’enthousiasme des
habitants par une musique
dont les
caractéristiques
constituent par
excellence les
festivités de la joie,
du bonheur et de la
gaieté.
The
Latin American mood of
this piece is truly
infectious and will make
all players, and audience
members, get up and
dance.Why not add a
little Latin spice to any
concert with this lively
new work. $42.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks | | |
