This
is the second method book
in The Young Flute Player
series and it's packed
with a huge amount of
repertoire! The music
includes everything from
Baroque masterpieces by
Bach to Ragtime music by
Joplin. There are also
traditional folk tunes,
exercises, studies,
festive music and a
section of longer concert
pieces. The progressive
units introduce new
material gradually, and
the exercises and scales
are directly related to
the pieces. Words are
included for some of the
song tunes to assist with
understanding breathing
and phrasing. Italian
words for style and tempo
are illustrated with fun
cartoon pictures to help
students remember the
meaning of terms. To help
students practise, there
are FREE YOUTUBE
recordings for every
piece, as well piano
backing tracks and duet
recordings. The Young
Flute Player also
features: Easy-to-read
fingering charts for
every note of the flute

Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart's
(1756-1791) Flute
Concerto in G was written
by the composer in 1778.
The concerto remains
widely studied and
performed on the flute,
making it one of the most
important concerti in the
instrument's repertoire.
Paul Taffanel and
Philippe Gaubert's
composed cadenzas for the
work are essential to all
performers of the
concerto. Concerto in G
is in three movements; 1.
Allegro maestoso, 2.
Adagio ma non troppo, and
3. Rondo: Tempo di
Menuetto. The first and
last movements are in the
tonic key, whilst the
second movement is in the
subdominant key of D
major. All three
movements contain a
cadenza which initially
would have been left for
the performer to
improvise. However,
cadenzas have since been
written, including those
of Taffanel and Gaubert.
Both were prominent
flautists of their time
and their understanding
of the flute concerto
repertoire is second to
none, making their
cadenzas well-informed
and essential to
performers of the
concerto.

This work was
composed in 1969 and I
had the honor of
releasing it in Algorta
(Vizcaya) on June 22,
1970. I have played
afterwards in several
occasions and recorded on
CD. It is the first work
composed by this author
devoted to the flute and
opens a long series of
her works with this
instrument, which have
narrowed my collaboration
with Maria Luisa Ozaita
who I also have a close
friendship
with.
These
pieces are framed in a
time in which the
composer has reached her
creative maturity and her
inspiration stands out on
its own. These works
shape a brief triptych
which movements have a
characteristic
personality and are well
contrasted. The first one
has a spring-like
lyricism with sparkles of
irony. The second on
presents a meditative
melody that consists of
sighs that are bounded on
the weft of an
accompaniment that the
flute pinpoints a in the
low register. A binary
dance of a very rhythmic
spirit closes the work to
a nice finish.

Composed in
1936 by Jacques Ibert
(1890-1962), a
neoclassical composer who
won the Prix de Rome in
1919, Pièce for
Solo Flute was
premiered by Marcel
Moyse. This publication
was written in three
movements in two
contrasting themes. The
first theme is a slow
lyrical melody compared
to the second one which
is much faster. The third
movement of
Pièce for Solo
Flute brings back the
first theme again but
with more ornamentation
this time.
Jacques
Ibert (1890-1962) also
composed many symphonic
suites, operas and seven
orchestras, including
'Angelique' (1926) and
'Divertissement' (1930).
He also was in charge of
the Académie de
France in the Villa
Médicis (Roma) and
was later administrator
for the Paris Opera.
