Internationally renowned authors, musicians and recording artists, Frank Villafranca and Andrew D. Gordon of The Super Groovers have composed a collection of grooves and melodies in the Smooth Jazz Genre creating an exciting supplemental jazz study series for beginner, intermediate and advanced jazz students and musicians. After releasing their first CD Supergroovin, which received world wide airplay, they recognized a need in the music publishing business for a series of books on contemporary improvising within the 'Smooth Jazz' genre. Andrew composed and recorded all the rhythm tracks used in thisbook. In their opinion, the melodies were so catchy they couldn't resist developing them into completed songs. Mainline Connection, Villefranche& sur-Mer and You're The Only One In My Life, are a few featured on their second CD, Mainline Connection. The smooth jazz grooves in this 50 page book feature a variety of contemporary rhythm section styles including R& B, Jazz, Funk, Top 40, Rock, Gospel, Hip Hop and Latin. These stylistic influences are frequently associated with smooth jazz. Popular artists in this genre include, The Super Groovers, David Sanborn, Eric Marienthal, Kenny G, David Benoit, Dave Koz, Tom Scott, Gerald Albright, Candy Dulfer, Wilton Felder, Boney James, Chris Botti, Chuck Mangione, Sade, George Benson, Peter White, Lee Ritenour, Earl Klugh, Larry Carlton, Jeff Lorber, Brian Culbertson, George Duke, Paul Hardcastle, Joe Sample, Spyro Gyra, Pat Metheny, Four Play, The Yellow Jackets and The Rippingtons. We suggest that you become acquainted with as many of these artists as possible. On each of the 20 tracks, the groove is separated into 3 melodic ideas. Each melodic idea (example or riff) is played first, by the Flute with the groove, followed by just the rhythm section groove, without the Flute. The 1st example is usually the easiest, the 2nd slightly harder and the 3rd the most difficult. The Bluesier Side of Jazz by Andrew D. Gordon was inspired by the Piano students he teaches at Shepherd University School of Music in Los Angeles and is dedicated to those students: Jungwon, Yumiko, Yoko, Eunice, Sooji, Hae Ji and Ok Kyu. As with many students that come from a classical background (including himself) it is a difficult transition to learn to play Blues & Jazz. When a musician improvises they usually play a variety of riffs or phrases that they have developed and learnt over a period of time and can access these phrases instantaneously whatever key they are playing in to create a seamless improvised solo from the phrases they havelearnt. Andrew's idea for this book is to create phrases or riffs over two measures of various Blues progressions. He sub-divided each of the 12 Bar Blues progressions used in this book (the chord progression for Watermelon Man is a 16 measure progression) into six sections (two measures each) and within each of the six sections created four different phrases or riffs so that the student has a choice of four different phrases to play over every two measures. They can then create a solo based on which phrase they choose for each two measures. By breaking down these phrases to two measures each, he has found that the students have an easier time of learning to improvise than by trying to transcribe a whole solo from an audio recording or leaving them to their own devices in trying to play a solo based on the Blues scale or other related scales. Each of the ten examples are based on common Jazz/Blues chord progressions from Jazz songs such as 'Watermelon Man', 'Blue Monk', 'Tenor Madness', 'Route 66', 'Blue Trane', 'Bag's Groove' starting off with basic I-IV-V chords and increasing in complexity throughout the book. Après le succès mondial de la collection Ultra Smooth Jazz Grooves que j\'ai co-écrite avec le saxophoniste Frank Villafranca, basée sur des compositions que nous avons écrites pour notre groupe The Super Groovers, je suis maintenant l\'auteur de la collection Smooth Jazz pour les instruments suivants : Piano/Clavier, Guitare/Basse, Flûte, Clarinette, Violon, Saxophones Alto et Ténor, Trompette et Trombone.
Le Smooth Jazz couvre une grande variété de styles différents et j\'ai combiné des éléments de Jazz, Rock, Pop, Blues, Latin, Gospel, Funk et RandB, Classique, Folk, New Age dans les exemples du livre.
Le Smooth Jazz est un genre de musique essentiellement instrumental, généralement très mélodique et qui, dans la plupart des cas, comporte une part d\'improvisation jazz. Il est généralement interprété à un tempo moyen et tend à mettre en avant le piano/clavier, le saxophone, la trompette et la guitare comme instruments principaux jouant la mélodie.
La plupart du temps, le Smooth Jazz est bien produit et présente des mélodies mémorables sur un fond de plusieurs pistes d\'instruments rythmiques, de claviers, de guitare, de cordes, de synthétiseurs, de batteries et de percussions.
Chaque riff a été enregistré avec l\'instrument mélodique solo ainsi qu\'une piste d\'accompagnement rythmique de guitare, de claviers/synthés, de basse, de batterie/percussion, puis uniquement les pistes d\'accompagnement pour que vous puissiez vous entraîner. Sont également incluses des pistes d\'accompagnement jouant la progression des accords 10 fois, ce qui vous donne plus de temps pour pratiquer vos compétences d\'improvisation en utilisant les riffs du recueil et en les développant dans votre propre style. / Partitions variété - pop - rock / Variété internationale / Vents / ADG PRODUCTIONS

The idea for this book series is to give instrumentalists the opportunity to practice solo improvisational techniques while playing along to rhythm tracks of keyboards, guitar, bass, drums/percussion in various different Latin styles including Calypso, Mambo, Salsa, Songo, Bossa, Guaracha, Samba and Latin-Blues. The 24 grooves totalling over 200 riffs/phrases and play-a-long tracks consists of a variety of tempos and keys. Each groove has a variety of riffs to learn that are generally 4 or 8 measures in length. It would be beneficial if you could memorize these riffs so that you can experiment using different permutations of the riffs as well as being used as a starting off point for one's own improvisations. Each riff has been recorded with a rhythm track with each style having an extended play-a-long track, around 3 minutes in length, recorded without the solo part so you can practice the riffs that you have learned.
