Serenade für 13 Instrumente. Par MOZART WOLFGANG AMADEUS. An announcement in the Wiener-Zeitung read: “Concert. Today [23 March 1784] Herr [Anton] Stadler Sr. , presently in the service of His Majesty the Emperor, will hold a concert for his own benefit at the Royal Imperial National Court Theatre in which, among other select pieces, he will present a grand work for wind-band of a quite special character, composed by Herr Mozart. ” That this was almost certainly four movements from the present Serenade in B-flat major, K. 361, is suggested by an account of the occasion published some months later, which states, “Today I heard a composition by Herr Mozart in 4 movements for wind ensemble. . . comprising 13 instruments: 4 horns, 2oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 clarinetts, 2 basset horns and a contrabass viol. . . . ” Much music of the serenade-divertimento-cassation-Nachtmusik type was written in a light style and intended for social occasions rather than formal concerts. In such a context K. 361 is striking for its seriousness of artistic content, its length (seven movements lasting nearly an hour), and its extended instrumentation (most wind-band music of the period calls for five to eight or nine players, not thirteen). Mendelssohn’s setting of Psalm 98 was written in a few weeks to satisfy a commission in his new position as general music director of Prussia and was premiered by the Berlin Cathedral Choir on 1 January 1844. As he neither released the work forpublication nor produced a vocal score, his psalm setting did not appear in print until after his death. For this edition the authoritative Mendelssohn specialist John Michael Cooper drew primarily on the autograph score with its many subsequent corrections and amendments. In this way it differs from many other editions, which tend to treat theautograph as a subordinate source. Rounding off the edition are an informative Foreword and a detailed Critical Commentary. The piano reduction is based on the first printed edition, published by F. Z-4383 by Minas Borboudakis is a 12-minute work for large ensemble (1(=Picc).1.1(=BCl).1 – 1.1.1(=BTbn).0 – 2Perc – Acdn – Pf – Str(1.1.1.1.1 or String Orchestra) – Electronics). It describes the journey of the wagon of the same name in which the body of the politician and pacifist Grigoris Lambrakis, also called 'Z', who was murdered in 1963, was transported from Thessaloniki to Athens. In the scene from the cult novel Z by Vassilis Vassilikos, the author lets the soul of Grigoris Lammbrakis fly over the train. Train noises, distorted fragments of speech, as well as lines rising ever higher unfold in the music. Sequences expressing pain, longing, hope and despair return as wordless instrumental quotations, attempting to portray the unspeakable before the soul leaves the body at the work's conclusion. The world premiere took place on 20 July 2018 with the Academy of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Carter. Le Complete Vocal Works Johann Pachelbel est connu aujourd'hui comme un compositeur de musique d'orgue et d'un célèbre canon instrumental qui comporte fréquemment dans les programmes de concert et des catalogues d'enregistrement. Cependant, la même chose peut être dite de seulement quelques-uns de ses compositions vocales. Tout au plus, les motets apparaissent parfois dans la musique d'église répertoire. Les arias de Pachelbel , des concertos vocales et magnificat à grande échelle ont reCu peu d'attention jusqu'à présent .Musiciens d'église et musicologues ont longtemps souhaité une édition critique de ces travaux importants , qui survivent dans le manuscrit de Pachelbel et ont été en grande partie composé de ses principaux lieux de travail , Erfurt et Nuremberg. Comme toujours avec ces entreprises , de nouvelles découvertes sont à prévoir en ce qui concerne le corpus d'oeuvres , du matériel source et le contexte des travaux. Cela concerne non seulement la belle musique, mais plutôt un approfondissement de notre compréhension de Pachelbel comme un personnage clé entre traditions méridionales et centrales allemandes , et la reconnaissance d'une oeuvre qui a tous été trop souvent poussé dans l'ombre par le puissant Bach. / Orchestre
