The Adagio is
based on a manuscript
that was discovered in
the Dresden State Library
after the Second World
War by Remo Giazotto, a
Milanese musicologist who
was working on
Albinoni’s
biography at the time.
Only the bass line and
six bars of melody were
found and they probably
belonged to the slow
movement of a Trio
Sonata. In 1945 Giazotti
reconstructed the now
famous Adagio which has
made Albinoni known to a
worldwide audience.
Das
Adagio, so wie es
heute weithin bekannt
ist, hat eine
interessante Geschichte:
Es wurde erst im 20.
Jahrhundert von einem
Musikwissenschaftler aus
einem Manuskript
Albinonis, welches
lediglich Teile einer
Melodie enthielt,
rekonstruiert. Dennoch
ist es gerade das Adagio,
das Albinoni in der
heutigen Musikwelt
berühmt gemacht hat
und dessen Wirkung sich
auch in diesem
gefühlvollen
Arrangement von Jacob de
Haan niemand entziehen
kann.

Tomaso
Albinoni (1671-1751) est
ne a Venise. Il est le
fils aine d'un riche
marchand. Des son plus
jeune age, il developpe
un reel talent pour le
chant et surtout pour le
violon, et se met
rapidement a composer.
Albinoni a vecu et
travaille toute sa vie
durant a Venise, mais a
egalement sejourne a
Florence et a Munich.Dans
sa jeunesse, Albinoni
compose de la musique
sacree mais sans grand
succes. En 1694, il
attire l'attention du
public venitien lors de
la representation de son
premier opera Zenobia,
Regina de Palmireni
(Zenobia, reine de
Palmireni). Ses
premieres œuvres de
musique instrumentale
datent de la meme annee.
Par la suite, Albinoni se
consacre surtout a
lacomposition
d'œuvres vocales
(operas et cantates) et
instrumentales (sonates
et concertos).C'est en
travaillant sur la
biographie d'Albinoni, au
sortir de la Deuxieme
Guerre mondiale, que le
musicologue milanais,
Remo Giazotto, decouvre a
la Bibliotheque Nationale
de Dresde, un manuscrit
inedit, sur lequel est
base le celebre
Adagio. Il
semblerait que les six
mesures de la melodie et
la ligne de basse
retrouvees aient
constitue un passage d'un
mouvement lent d'une
sonate a trois. Vers
1945, en partant de ces
elements, Remo Giazotto
reconstitue une
œuvre, celebre de
nos jours, comme
l'Adagio
d'Albinoni, alors
qu'Albinoni lui-meme ne
serait probablement plus
en mesure de reconnaitre
sa piece.

It is
widely believed that
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
(1756-1791) wrote the
Adagio in E major, K. 261
in or around 1776 as a
replacement for the
second movement of his
Violin Concerto No. 5 in
A, K. 219. The likely
reason for the
replacement is a
complaint by Italian
violinist Antonio
Brunetti, recently
brought to the Salzburg
court orchestra by the
Prince-Archbishop of
Salzburg, Heironymus
Colloredo, that the
original movements was
too artificial, according
to a letter from Leopold
Mozart. The Mozarts,
finding Brunetti boorish
and morally
objectionable, also would
have thought his
complaint regarding the
artificial second
movement to confirm their
worst opinions of Italian
taste. Still, young
Mozart wrote the
replacement Adagio as
requested, and its serene
beauty in sonata form
remains a fine example of
his lyrical ability.

Robert van
Beringen chose a
classical theme for this
funeral march. For this
reason, within the trio
of this melancholy piece
we find echoes of
Albinoni’s
Adagio which -
according to the latest
research was actually
composed by his
biographer Remo Giazotto.
Thanks to the four-part
variable instrumentation
(with ad lib. drums) this
funeral march can be
played by pretty much any
ensemble - whether at a
funeral on the way from
the church to the
cemetery, in the church
itself or indeed on stage
as part of a memorial
concert.
Robert
van Beringen maakt in het
trio van zijn Funeral
March gebruik van de
bekende melodie
‘Adagio van
Albinoni’, en
waarvan sinds kort blijkt
dat het eigenlijk werd
geschreven door Giazotto.
Door de _x001E_exibele,
vierstemmige bezetting
kan dit werk gespeeld
worden door elk orkest.
Het is geschikt als
begeleiding van de kerk
naar het kerkhof of in de
kerk als een moment van
bezinning of eerbetoon.
Robert van
Beringen wählte
für diesen
Trauermarsch ein
klassisches Thema. So
_x001D_finden sich im
Trio dieses
melancholischen
Stückes Anklänge
an das Adagio“ von
Albinoni, das nach
neueren Erkenntnissen
aber von dessen Biograf
Remo Giazotto zu stammen
scheint. Dank der
vierstimmig variablen
Instrumentierung (mit
Schlagzeug ad lib.) kann
der Trauermarsch von
jeder Besetzung gespielt
werden - ob bei einer
Beerdigung auf dem Weg
von der Kirche zum
Friedhof, in der Kirche
selbst oder auf der

einem

P
er questa marcia funebre,
Robert van Beringen si
è ispirato ad un tema

l’Adagio di

scoperte recenti sembra
sia stato composto dal

Funeral March può

Robert van
Beringen chose a
classical theme for this
funeral march. For this
reason, within the trio
of this melancholy piece
we find echoes of
Albinoniâ??s
Adagio which -
according to the latest
research was actually
composed by his
biographer Remo Giazotto.
Thanks to the four-part
variable instrumentation
(with ad lib. drums) this
funeral march can be
played by pretty much any
ensemble - whether at a
funeral on the way from
the church to the
cemetery, in the church
itself or indeed on stage
as part of a memorial
concert.
Robert
van Beringen maakt in het
trio van zijn Funeral
March gebruik van de
bekende melodie
â??Adagio van
Albinoniâ??, en waarvan
sinds kort blijkt dat het
eigenlijk werd geschreven
door Giazotto. Door de
_x001E_exibele,
vierstemmige bezetting
kan dit werk gespeeld
worden door elk orkest.
Het is geschikt als
begeleiding van de kerk
naar het kerkhof of in de
kerk als een moment van
bezinning of eerbetoon.
Robert van
Beringen wählte fu?r
diesen Trauermarsch ein
klassisches Thema. So
_x001D_finden sich im
Trio dieses
melancholischen Stu?ckes
Anklänge an das
Adagioâ?? von Albinoni,
das nach neueren
Erkenntnissen aber von
dessen Biograf Remo
Giazotto zu stammen
scheint. Dank der
vierstimmig variablen
Instrumentierung (mit
Schlagzeug ad lib.) kann
der Trauermarsch von
jeder Besetzung gespielt
werden - ob bei einer
Beerdigung auf dem Weg
von der Kirche zum
Friedhof, in der Kirche
selbst oder auf der
Konzertbu?hne bei einem
Gedenkkonzert.
P
er questa marcia funebre,
Robert van Beringen si
è ispirato ad un tema
classico. Il malinconico
trio ricorda lâ??Adagio
di Albinoni che secondo
scoperte recenti sembra
sia stato composto dal
biografo Remo Giazotto.
Scritta per
strumentazione variabile
a quattro voci (con
percussioni ad libitum),
Funeral March può
essere eseguita in
occasione di una
cerimonia funebre, di una
processione o di un
concerto
commemorativo.

The young have
the future. This is the
statement made at the
beginning of ‘Like
a Child’ by
Andreas Ludwig
Schulte. The opening
radiates strength and
ambition, but one is also
made to wonder which
direction will be chosen,
which choices will have
to be made. After the
introduction the first
steps on the path of life
are taken, still somewhat
unsteadily (the 3/4th
time used illustrates
this uncertainty).
However, the child has
now set off and will meet
the future with an open
mind, unafraid, even
though experience will
teach it how easily it
can be
hurt. Fortunately, it
is sometimes allowed to
be vulnerable and it
discovers there will
always be someone to
offer shelter,support and
love. (Adagio) The
last part breathes a far
greater independence.
Youth is able to face the
future, it can even take
on the whole world!
Wie de jeugd
heeft, heeft de toekomst.
Met dit statement begint
deze compositie van
Andreas Ludwig Schulte.
Het begin straalt
kracht en ambitie uit.
Maar welke kant gaat het
op, welke keuzes moeten
gemaakt worden? Na de
inleidingworden de eerste
schreden op het levenspad
gezet, het is nog wat
onzeker (de driekwarts
maat voelt een beetje
wankel). Toch gaan we
daarna op pad,
onbevangen, met open
vizier de toekomst
tegemoet al blijken er
toch noch
kwetsbaremomenten te
bestaan. Gelukkig
mogen we dat soms ook
zijn en dan is er altijd
wel iemand bij wie we
geborgenheid, steun en
liefde ontvangen.
(Adagio) Het laatste
deel straalt al veel meer
zelfstandigheid uit. Laat
maarkomen die toekomst,
we kunnen de wereld
aan!

Best
playability and musical
spirit - this is what
characterizes the music
of Bertold Hummel who
died in 2002, and why his
music must be part of the
repertoire of any amateur
and semi-professional
orchestra. The Oregon
Symphony occupies a
special position in his
oeuvre: it was written by
Hummel for the typically
American symphonic wind
bands, requiring almost
100 musicians, including
15 clarinets in three
groups of five alone, as
well as four piccolos and
six flutes, bass
clarinet, bassoons,
saxophones, trumpets,
horns, tubas and the
typically American
sousaphone, and five
percussionists. The work
consists of four
movements; in the rousing
finale, Hummel mixes jazz
motifs with popular
themes and even weaves
the anthem of the State
of Oregon in the final
music. For getting better
acquainted with this
music, the first movement
is also separately
available ('Symphonische
Ouverture', SHS
1001).
