ch. The Golden
Age is a programmatic
composition in four
movements. I
Overture For the
Netherlands, the
seventeenth century was a
period of great
flourishing in the fields
of economy, culture and
politics; thus it is
called the Golden Age.
Overseas trade boomed,
and the Dutch East India
Company (known as the VOC
by the Dutch) was founded
and expanded to become a
powerful -and, at the
time - modern enterprise.
II ¡Adiós
españoles!(Farewel
l, Spaniards!) In 1567,
the Spanish army invaded,
led by the Duke of Alva.
There was a fierce
resistance against the
Spanish tyranny; toward
the end of the sixteenth
century, the Dutch
proclaimed theRepublic.
However, the Spanish
continued the war. Only
with the Treaty of
Münster in 1648 did
the Dutch get their much
sought-after
independence. This was
also the end of the
Eighty Years’ War.
III Rembrandt’s
Night WatchThe field
of culture, particularly
literature, painting,
sculpture, architecture,
the art of printing, and
cartography developed
fast. It was in the
Golden Age that the
celebrated painter
Rembrandt van Rijn
created his famous Night
Watch. IV The
Admiral Overseas
trade entailed the
colonization of large
areas in Asia, from where
precious products that
yielded lots of money
were brought in.
Surrounding countries
were also involved in
such practices.
Colonizers poached on
each other’s
territories in the
literal and figurative
sense - in this context
the Anglo-Dutch Sea Wars
are legendary. The fourth
movement starts with the
English patriotic song
Rule Britannia, after
which the Dutch Admiral
Michiel de Ruyter makes
the English change their
tune; one can even hear
the roaring of cannons.
When the smoke of battle
has cleared, a small
fragment of a Dutch song
about Michiel de Ruyter
appears, followed by a
fitting closing.

to some and terrifying to
others, few animals are
as universally
mesmerizing. Composer
Tyler Arcari has crafted
a very fun piece making
use of auxiliary
percussion instruments to
emulate a snake's hiss or
ominous rattle. With very
strong and interesting
melodic material, and
scored to make a
developing band sound
great, this piece is sure
to be a favorite among

remembers the first time
that they saw a snake.
The majority of people
have a base fear of them,

know how the great

Jones felt about snakes,
especially when he
famously fell into a
snake pit during Raiders

you feel about snakes, a
pit of them certainly
sounds like an
adventure.About the
work:Snake Pit uses a lot
of auxiliary percussion
instruments. Some of
these sounds are intended
to subtly mimic the
sounds that snakes make.
The maraca in m. 4, of
course, is a
rattler’s call!
The Chinese cymbal is
intended to sound like
the “hiss†of
a not-so-friendly
serpent. The eighth-note
pattern at m. 9 is used
throughout as a
“creepyâ€
effect using dynamic
contrast so take care to
emphasize this when
present.I enjoy the gong
as a “colorâ€
instrument in the band. I
try to balance it with
the low brass. Take care
that at m. 42 the gong is
not “front-and
center†but more of
a support for the nice
accented chords in the
low brass. Also, the
trumpets can become
spaced too much here. The
accents are more for
emphasis and less
space. $60.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 1 to 2 weeks

g its title from a poem
about grief and loss by
Chrissie Pinney, Live
On honors the life of
band director Linda Mann,
to whom the piece is
dedicated. The piece
begins with a pensive
intro before shifting to
a whimsical theme that
brings about happy
thoughts of a life
well-lived. After a
return to the poignant
opening material, the
music surges to a
triumphant conclusion
based on an augmented
version of the whimsical
theme. Live On was
commissioned by Diplomat
Middle School's staff,
faculty and students, in
Cape Coral, Florida, and
is dedicated to the
memory of their Director
of Bands, Linda Mann.
Director of Orchestras,
Roland Forti, championed
the commissioning of this
piece to honor the life
of Linda after her
untimely passing in
February of
2017. Linda
Mann’s impact on
the field of music
education was profound
and wide-reaching. She
was a beloved member of
the staff at Diplomat
Middle School, as well as
the music community of
Cape Coral and the state
of Florida. Linda was
highly respected
throughout the state,
serving as recent
past-president of the
Florida Bandmasters
Association.In discussing
the type of piece the
school wanted to honor
Ms. Mann, they indicated
the piece should
“depict
Linda’s
personality: dynamic,
sassy, yet thoughtful and
almost
mentor-like.†They
wanted a piece that was
upbeat, yet still had
moments that were
thoughtful, portraying
the grief that the
Diplomat Middle School
community has suffered
from the sudden loss of
such a beloved
teacher.After
contemplating their
thoughts, I did some
research to find
inspiration for the
piece. This led me to
poetry about grief and
loss. In time, I stumbled
upon a short, yet
poignant poem that I felt
perfectly depicted the
sentiment that I wanted
the piece to convey.Â
That poem is entitled
Live On by Chrissie
Pinney.Live OnNow as I
live onWithout youI hope
to keepThe pieces of
youThat I loved so
dearlyYour mannerismsAnd
compassionate
characterAnd smiles
through struggleSo that
youMay live on
too -Chrissie PinneyI
reached out to Ms.
Pinney, and she
graciously agreed to
allow me to quote her
powerful poem in these
notes. She expressed
that she was deeply
touched that her work
would inspire me to write
a piece in honor of Linda
Mann.The piece begins
with a poignant, pensive
opening section. The use
of the musical interval
of a tritone between the
first two openly voiced
chords are used to
represent the sadness we
all feel from this type
of loss. When I sat in
front of my piano and
started to work on this
piece, my hands seemed to
naturally and immediately
play these first two
chords, which set the
process in motion of
composing the piece.After
the somber opening, the
piece shifts to a
whimsical theme that I
hope brings about happy
thoughts of Linda and her
personality. It was also
my intent, however, to
include some musical
dissonance in the theme
that still reflected the
bittersweet loss at the
same time. The piece
develops into a secondary
theme that is a quasi
inversion of the main
fast theme. This
section is followed by a
return of the opening
material, with snippets
of the fast theme
intertwined, before the
piece builds to a
triumphant, augmented
presentation of the main
theme in a lush form to
complete the work.It is
my hope that in some
small way, this piece
will bring comfort to
those affected by the
loss of Linda Mann, and
that the music will allow
her memory to Live

val March is presented in
a new edition arranged by
Richard Summers. It is a
tour de force composition
for advanced bands and
hearkens back to a bygone
era during the golden age
of the band movement.
Directors and students
will hear operatic music
from composer Victor
Herbert who is best known
for his Christmas
classic, Toyland. This
is a richly scored
masterpiece that deserves
to return to standard
status in concert band
repertoire. We are proud
to bring you this new
setting of this cherished
classic. About the
CompositionFestival March
by Victor Herbert was
written for the
Pittsburgh Symphony and
first performed under
Herbert’s
direction in Chicago on
Dec. 9, 1901 celebrating
the 12th anniversary
of Chicago’s
Auditorium Theatre. Also
known as the Auditorium
Festival March, he
included it many times
for programs of a

theme Auld Lang Syne, a
famous Scottish folk
song, is incorporated
many times along with
brass fanfares,
interludes and march

similar to the original

The missing string parts,
the addition of the
saxophone section and
other band instruments,
editing of the

one or the other, and
articulations suitable

challenges. The style of

tour de force composition
for advanced bands and
hearkens back to a bygone

of the band movement.
Directors and students

from composer Victor

is a richly scored
masterpiece that deserves
to return to standard
status in concert band

anger Sean O'Loughlin has
provided a refreshing new
setting of our National
Anthem. It was originally
written for orchestral
brass and percussion and
has been performed at
both MLB and NBA events.
The arrangement begins
with a bold fanfare to
set the tone, but also to
provide the motive glue
to hold the arrangement
together and create
something unique.
Creative harmonic usage
and colorful
orchestration really make
this version stand out
from the rest. There
have been many great
arrangements of our
National Anthem
throughout the years .
The responsibility of
creating one that truly
brought something new to
the mix was very daunting
. I was fortunate enough
to get an opportunity to
write this version for
the Oregon Symphony Brass
Section to perform at the
Portland Trail Blazers
NBA games . Subsequent
performances have
occurred with the
Baltimore Symphony at the
Baltimore Orioles MLB
games . At this time, it
is my supreme honor to
adapt this for the
advanced concert band .In
bringing something new, I
decided to start with a
bold fanfare to set the
tone for this great music
. Introducing some more
dissonant harmonies also
created a more intense
feel .The first stanza
includes a flowing
counter line in the horns
and alto saxophones . The
trumpets interject some
flourishes on the second
pass to further the
intensity . These
flourishes continue
“ . . . when the
rockets red glare!â€
The final push at m . 29
is colored with pulsating
16th notes in the
woodwinds that lead to
some dramatic harmony at
the fermata in m . 32 .
The opening fanfare then
returns to let everyone
know that it's time to
“Play
ball!â€. $110.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 1 to 2 weeks

Jacob de Haan
was commissioned to
compose this concert
piece by the St. Peters
Wind Symphony from
Brisbane, Australia. Ross
Roy is the monumental
late 19th century villa
where St. Peters Lutheran
College was founded in
1945. The villa has
always remained the
school symbol. In this
composition, Jacob de
Haan sees the Ross Roy as
a metaphor for the years
spent at school (a
monument in time), where
one's personality is
formed. So, the opening
theme the artist calls
the Ross Roy theme
initially has monumental
characteristics.The
rhythmic motion, which
strides along in the
lower register and
percussion at the
beginning of the next
section is typical of
Tempo di Marcia.
Thismovement, accompanied
by repetitions of sound,
is a metaphor for the
structure and discipline
in school. This is the
introduction to a march
theme, symbolic of
passing through the
classes up to the final
examinations.Then, the
Ross Roy theme is dealt
with again, now in a
playful, humorous
variation. As if the
composer is saying there
should also be time for a
smile in school. The same
theme can be heard in
major key and a slower
tempo in the following
section, expressing pride
and self-confidence. This
is also the introduction
to the expressive middle
section that represents
love, friendship and
understanding.We then
return to the march theme
in a slightly altered
construction. The
oriental sounds,
constituting the
modulation to the final
theme, are symbols of the
diversity of cultures in
the school. The
characteristic final
theme first sounds
solemn, but turns into a
festive apotheosis. It is
no coincidence that the
final cadence is
reminiscent of the close
to a traditional
overture, for the school
years can be considered
the overture to the rest
of one's life. The
premiere of Ross Roy was
conducted by Jacob de
Haan in Brisbane, on
August 22, 1997.

A lot is known
about the American
composer Leroy Anderson.
This son of Swedish
immigrants played the
piano, organ, accordion,
trombone, tuba and double
bass. He spoke several
languages fluently and
graduated from Harvard
with first-class
honours.While on military
service, the army also
commissioned him to write
a manual on Icelandic
grammar.He already
started writing musical
arrangements as a
student, and from his
30th year arranged and
composed for the Boston
Pops Orchestra. Such
melodiesas Serenata, The
Typewriter, Sleigh Ride
and Buglers
Holiday made him world
famous. His best-known
work, Blue Tango, reached
number one in the US
charts in 1952, and it
sold more than a million
copies. In 1975, a year
after hisdeath, he was
given a star at the Walk
of Fame in Hollywood.Most
of his works last no
longer than three
minutes, about the
maximum length of a
single at that time. One
work that lasts longer is
his 1953 Piano Concerto
in C for piano and
orchestra.The first
performance was in
Chicago, conducted by the
composer and with Eugene
List at the piano.
However, after three
performances he was no
longer happy with the
work and withdrew it. He
always intended to revise
it, but never got round
to it. Itwas only in 1989
that the Anderson family
decided to republish the
work.This three-part
composition is on the one
hand characterised by a
careless elegance, but on
the other one can hear
the influence of
Rachmaninoff, Copland,
Gershwin, and
evenBeethoven and Mozart,
as well as the Viennese
classics.Anderson used
the sonata form for the
first movement. It ends
with a cadenza that
carries us on into the
second part (in e minor).
The third part is a
typically cheerful
American folk dance in2/4
time, a so-called Hoe
Down, with a lilting,
lyrical passage as its
middle section. At the
end comes a solo passage
followed by a rapid
close.In this piano
concerto, Anderson
combines a rigidly
classical form of
composition with simple
andappealing themes and
elements from light
music. So this work is a
perfect synthesis of
light music and what is
called serious music, in
the same way as
Gershwins
Rhapsody in Blue. A work
that can be played
equally well in a
concerthall, at an
open-air concert or even
a pop
concert.
Over de
Amerikaanse componist
Leroy Anderson is veel
bekend. Deze zoon van
Zweedse immigranten
speelde piano, orgel,
accordeon, trombone, tuba
en contrabas. Hij sprak
vloeiend verschillende
talen en studeerde met
grote onderscheidingaf
aan Harvard en schreef
tijdens zijn legerdienst
in opdracht van het leger
een handboek grammatica
Ijslands.Al in zijn
studententijd begon hij
met het maken van
arrangementen, en vanaf
zijn 30ste arrangeerde en
componeerde hijvoor het
Boston Pops Orchestra.
Melodieën zoals
Serenata, The Typewriter,
Sleigh Ride en Bugler's
Holiday maakte hem
wereldberoemd. Zijn
bekendste werk Blue Tango
stond in 1952 op nummer
één in de VS
Charts, ener werden meer
dan een miljoen
exemplaren van verkocht.
Een jaar na zijn dood in
1975 kreeg hij een ster
op de Walk of Fame in
Hollywood.Zijn meeste
werken duren niet langer
dan drie minuten,
ongeveer de maximumduur
van een singletoen. Een
werk dat wel langer
duurt, is het
pianoconcerto in C voor
piano en orkest uit 1953.
Het werd in Chicago
gecreëerd onder zijn
leiding met Eugene List
aan de piano. Na drie
uitvoeringen echter, was
hij niet meer
tevredenover zijn werk en
trok dit terug. Hij had
zijn leven lang de
intentie het te herwerken
doch kwam er niet meer
toe. Pas in 1989 besliste
de Anderson Familie zijn
pianoconcerto toch
opnieuw uit te geven.Dit
driedelige werk
wordtenerzijds getypeerd
door een zorgeloze
elegantie, maar
anderzijds zijn invloeden
van Rachmaninoff,
Copland, Gerschwin en
zelfs Beethoven en Mozart
alsook de Weense
klassiekers te horen.Voor
de eerste beweging, past
Anderson de
sonatevormtoe. Op het
einde volgt een cadenza
die ons in het tweede
deel (in mi klein) voert.
Het derde deel is een
typische Amerikaanse,
vrolijke volksdans in

Verdienste um die

die Dauer: die meisten
sind rund drei Minuten
lang mehr passte
nicht auf den damals
gebräuchlichen
Tonträger, eine
Singleschallplatte. Nur
wenige
seinerKompositionen
sprengen diesen
Zeitrahmen. Dazu
gehört sein Konzert
C-Dur für Klavier und
Orchester. Er komponierte
es 1953, die
Uraufführung fand
unter seiner Leitung und
mit Eugene List am
Klavier im selben Jahr in
Chicago statt. Da
Anderson mit demWerk aber
nicht zufrieden war, zog
er es im Sommer 1954,
nach nur drei

die Absicht, es zu

es kam nicht mehr dazu.
Erst 1989 entschied sich
die Anderson-Familie
dazu, dasKlavierkonzert
wieder zu

dreisätzige Werk zeigt
die Unbeschwertheit und
Eleganz, die Andersons
sämtliche
Kompositionen
auszeichnen. Dennoch
findet man darin auch
Anklänge an
Komponisten wie
Rachmaninoff, Copland,

sowie die Wiener

folgt der

seinem Ende steht eine

überleitet. Der dritte
Satz schließlich ist
einwaschechter Hoe Down,
ein fröhlicher

im 2/4-Takt, in dessen
Zentrum aber eine
lyrisch-gesangliche
Passage steht. Eine
weitere Solo-Kadenz
führt das Werk in
einen spritzigen

seinem
Klavierkonzertvereinigt
Anderson einen
klassisch-traditionellen
Form- und
Kompositionsstil mit
Elementen der
Unterhaltungsmusik und
eingängigen Melodien,
die schon immer sein
Markenzeichen waren.
Daher bildet dieses Werk
eine perfekte Synthese
von ernster undleichter
Musik. Es passt

gleichermaßen in einen

wie auch zur

A lot is known
about the American
composer Leroy Anderson.
This son of Swedish
immigrants played the
piano, organ, accordion,
trombone, tuba and double
bass. He spoke several
languages fluently and
graduated from Harvard
with first-class
honours.While on military
service, the army also
commissioned him to write
a manual on Icelandic
grammar.He already
started writing musical
arrangements as a
student, and from his
30th year arranged and
composed for the Boston
Pops Orchestra. Such
melodiesas Serenata, The
Typewriter, Sleigh Ride
and Buglers
Holiday made him world
famous. His best-known
work, Blue Tango, reached
number one in the US
charts in 1952, and it
sold more than a million
copies. In 1975, a year
after hisdeath, he was
given a star at the Walk
of Fame in Hollywood.Most
of his works last no
longer than three
minutes, about the
maximum length of a
single at that time. One
work that lasts longer is
his 1953 Piano Concerto
in C for piano and
orchestra.The first
performance was in
Chicago, conducted by the
composer and with Eugene
List at the piano.
However, after three
performances he was no
longer happy with the
work and withdrew it. He
always intended to revise
it, but never got round
to it. Itwas only in 1989
that the Anderson family
decided to republish the
work.This three-part
composition is on the one
hand characterised by a
careless elegance, but on
the other one can hear
the influence of
Rachmaninoff, Copland,
Gershwin, and
evenBeethoven and Mozart,
as well as the Viennese
classics.Anderson used
the sonata form for the
first movement. It ends
with a cadenza that
carries us on into the
second part (in e minor).
The third part is a
typically cheerful
American folk dance in2/4
time, a so-called Hoe
Down, with a lilting,
lyrical passage as its
middle section. At the
end comes a solo passage
followed by a rapid
close.In this piano
concerto, Anderson
combines a rigidly
classical form of
composition with simple
andappealing themes and
elements from light
music. So this work is a
perfect synthesis of
light music and what is
called serious music, in
the same way as
Gershwins
Rhapsody in Blue. A work
that can be played
equally well in a
concerthall, at an
open-air concert or even
a pop
concert.
Over de
Amerikaanse componist
Leroy Anderson is veel
bekend. Deze zoon van
Zweedse immigranten
speelde piano, orgel,
accordeon, trombone, tuba
en contrabas. Hij sprak
vloeiend verschillende
talen en studeerde met
grote onderscheidingaf
aan Harvard en schreef
tijdens zijn legerdienst
in opdracht van het leger
een handboek grammatica
Ijslands.Al in zijn
studententijd begon hij
met het maken van
arrangementen, en vanaf
zijn 30ste arrangeerde en
componeerde hijvoor het
Boston Pops Orchestra.
Melodieën zoals
Serenata, The Typewriter,
Sleigh Ride en Bugler's
Holiday maakte hem
wereldberoemd. Zijn
bekendste werk Blue Tango
stond in 1952 op nummer
één in de VS
Charts, ener werden meer
dan een miljoen
exemplaren van verkocht.
Een jaar na zijn dood in
1975 kreeg hij een ster
op de Walk of Fame in
Hollywood.Zijn meeste
werken duren niet langer
dan drie minuten,
ongeveer de maximumduur
van een singletoen. Een
werk dat wel langer
duurt, is het
pianoconcerto in C voor
piano en orkest uit 1953.
Het werd in Chicago
gecreëerd onder zijn
leiding met Eugene List
aan de piano. Na drie
uitvoeringen echter, was
hij niet meer
tevredenover zijn werk en
trok dit terug. Hij had
zijn leven lang de
intentie het te herwerken
doch kwam er niet meer
toe. Pas in 1989 besliste
de Anderson Familie zijn
pianoconcerto toch
opnieuw uit te geven.Dit
driedelige werk
wordtenerzijds getypeerd
door een zorgeloze
elegantie, maar
anderzijds zijn invloeden
van Rachmaninoff,
Copland, Gerschwin en
zelfs Beethoven en Mozart
alsook de Weense
klassiekers te horen.Voor
de eerste beweging, past
Anderson de
sonatevormtoe. Op het
einde volgt een cadenza
die ons in het tweede
deel (in mi klein) voert.
Het derde deel is een
typische Amerikaanse,
vrolijke volksdans in
2/4, een zogenaamde Hoe

middengedeelte een
zangerige,

Feder stammen so bekannte
Werke der leichten Muse

wohlbekanntestes
Stück, Blue Tango,
wurde als erste
Instrumentalkomposition
über eine Million Mal
verkauft und belegte im
Jahr 1952 Platz 1 der
US-Charts. Für seine
Verdienste um die
Schallplattenindustrie
erhielt er ein Jahr nach
seinem Tod einenStern auf
dem Walk of Fame in

h für seine Werke ist
die Dauer: die meisten
sind rund drei Minuten
lang mehr passte
nicht auf den damals
gebräuchlichen
Tonträger, eine
Singleschallplatte. Nur
wenige
seinerKompositionen
sprengen diesen
Zeitrahmen. Dazu
gehört sein Konzert
C-Dur für Klavier und
Orchester. Er komponierte
es 1953, die
Uraufführung fand
unter seiner Leitung und
mit Eugene List am
Klavier im selben Jahr in
Chicago statt. Da
Anderson mit demWerk aber
nicht zufrieden war, zog
er es im Sommer 1954,
nach nur drei
Aufführungen, wieder
ein. Er hatte zeitlebens
die Absicht, es zu
überarbeiten, allein,
es kam nicht mehr dazu.
Erst 1989 entschied sich
die Anderson-Familie
dazu, dasKlavierkonzert
wieder zu
veröffentlichen.Das
dreisätzige Werk zeigt
die Unbeschwertheit und
Eleganz, die Andersons
sämtliche
Kompositionen
auszeichnen. Dennoch
findet man darin auch
Anklänge an
Komponisten wie
Rachmaninoff, Copland,
Gershwin, undeben
Beethoven und Mozart,
sowie die Wiener
Klassiker. Der erste Satz
folgt der
Sonatenhauptsatzform. An
seinem Ende steht eine
Klavierkadenz, die direkt
in den langsamen zweiten
Satz (in e-Moll)
überleitet. Der dritte
Satz schließlich ist
einwaschechter Hoe Down,
ein fröhlicher
amerikanischer Volkstanz
im 2/4-Takt, in dessen
Zentrum aber eine
lyrisch-gesangliche
Passage steht. Eine
weitere Solo-Kadenz
führt das Werk in
einen spritzigen
Schlussabschnitt.In
seinem
Klavierkonzertvereinigt
Anderson einen
klassisch-traditionellen
Form- und
Kompositionsstil mit
Elementen der
Unterhaltungsmusik und
eingängigen Melodien,
die schon immer sein
Markenzeichen waren.
Daher bildet dieses Werk
eine perfekte Synthese
von ernster undleichter
Musik. Es passt
wie beispielsweise auch
George Gershwins Rhapsody
in Blue
gleichermaßen in einen
vornehmen Konzertsaal,
wie auch zur
zwanglos-lockeren
Atmosphäre einer
sommerlichen
Open-Air-Veranstaltung
oder
einesPops-Konzertes. <

The Adagio is
based on a manuscript
that was discovered in
the Dresden State Library
after the Second World
War by Remo Giazotto, a
Milanese musicologist who
was working on
Albinoni’s
biography at the time.
Only the bass line and
six bars of melody were
found and they probably
belonged to the slow
movement of a Trio
Sonata. In 1945 Giazotti
reconstructed the now
famous Adagio which has
made Albinoni known to a
worldwide audience.
Das
Adagio, so wie es
heute weithin bekannt
ist, hat eine
interessante Geschichte:
Es wurde erst im 20.
Jahrhundert von einem
Musikwissenschaftler aus
einem Manuskript
Albinonis, welches
lediglich Teile einer
Melodie enthielt,
rekonstruiert. Dennoch
ist es gerade das Adagio,
das Albinoni in der
heutigen Musikwelt
berühmt gemacht hat
und dessen Wirkung sich
auch in diesem
gefühlvollen
Arrangement von Jacob de
Haan niemand entziehen
kann.
Tomaso
Albinoni (1671-1751) est
né Venise. Il est le
fils aîné
d’un riche
marchand. Dès son plus
jeune ge, il développe
un réel talent pour le
chant et surtout pour le
violon, et se met
rapidement composer.
Albinoni a vécu et
travaillé toute sa vie
durant Venise, mais a
également
séjourné Florence
et Munich.Dans sa
jeunesse, Albinoni
compose de la musique
sacrée mais sans grand
succès. En 1694, il
attire l’attention
du public vénitien
lors de la
représentation de son
premier opéra
Zenobia, Regina de
Palmireni (Zenobia, reine
de Palmireni). Ses
premières œuvres
de musique instrumentale
datent de la même
année. Par la suite,
Albinoni se consacre
surtout lacomposition
d’œuvres
vocales (opéras et
cantates) et
instrumentales (sonates
et
concertos).C’est
en travaillant sur la
biographie
d’Albinoni, au
sortir de la Deuxième
Guerre mondiale, que le
musicologue milanais,
Remo Giazotto,
découvre la
Bibliothèque Nationale
de Dresde, un manuscrit
inédit, sur lequel est
basé le célèbre
Adagio. Il
semblerait que les six
mesures de la mélodie
et la ligne de basse
retrouvées aient
constitué un passage
d’un mouvement
lent d’une sonate
trois. Vers 1945, en
partant de ces
éléments, Remo
Giazotto reconstitue une
œuvre, célèbre
de nos jours, comme
l’Adagio
d’Albinoni, alors
qu’Albinoni
lui-même ne serait
probablement plus en
mesure de reconnaître
sa pièce. $118.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks

asia Nova is a suite
comprising two concert
marches and a slow,
middle movement that
derives its themes from
both marches. Ragtime
(composed in early
September, 1978) is a new
from old sort of piece.
Although its tunefulness
and harmonies have an
old-fashioned character,
its structure,
development, and
orchestration are unusual
for a march. In the
chorale section (measures
111 - 148) the band
director must be very
careful in balancing, for
each of the elements must
come through. More
important is that the
audience be brought up by
this section -- filled
with a joyous exaltation;
great attention must be
paid to sonority and the
band must play earnestly.
Ragtime stands on its own
and may be performed
separately. Dreams
(composed in late
September, 1978) is the
traditional march of the
two. It is very closely
modeled (in structure
only) to Sousa's Stars
and Stripes Forever. It
even includes a tricky
piccolo solo, although
the accompaniment has a
chorale texture, almost
like a school alma mater.
This march has a
patriotic, inspirational
sound, because it was
composed for the town of
Irondequoit, New York --
for a Town March contest
held by the town's
community concert band.
It did not, so far as I
know, become the town's
march; one can hear the
name, Irondequoit,
throughout the Trio, for
every turn of the melody
(in fact, each group of
four notes) fits the
accent pattern
(Ih-RON-dih-kwoit) of the
town's name. Parade
stands on its own as a
complete work and may be
performed separately.

Crystal Hill is the
nickname for New
Hampshire's Mount
Washington, the highest
peak in the north eastern
USA. Its weather is
notoriously fickle, and
the world's highest wind
speed of 231 m.p.h. was
recorded there in 1934.
Composer Brad Ciechomski
paints a vivid portrait
depecting a climb up the
mountain. Soaring
melodies and exuberant
rhythms depict and
intrepid trek. Wind sound
effects enhance the
performance. Download the
