March of the Robot Army was commissioned by Linda Anzolin & Giordano-Bruno Tedeschi for Campobanda 2019, with funds made available by JUST ITALIA. Campobanda is an Italian summer music camp for 8- to 18-year-olds (held inCamposilvano in 2019) which has a different theme every year. The theme for 2019 was ‘science fiction’, so composer Philip Sparke chose to write a robot march. After a quirky introduction featuring trumpet calls and chromaticfigures, the main theme appears in a minor mode on clarinet and tenor sax and is then taken up by the full band. A change of key heralds a new theme, led by the trumpet and again repeated by the full ensemble. A further change ofkey introduces a legato ‘trio’ melody over a rather robotic accompaniment: instruments are added bit by bit until a climax is reached. Small motifs from the introduction then lead back to a full recapitulation, revisiting thefirst two themes in new guises before finishing the march with a flourish.

Roland Kernen chose Kling Glöckchen klingelingeling, Sü�er die Glocken nie klingen and, of course, Jingle Bells! A fantasic work to end any Christmas concert.

Christmas Bells (Les cloches de Noël) sâ??ouvre avec un carillon de cloches dâ??église (enregistré sur le CD joint cette édition). Following a Christmas concert in German speaking Belgium, Jan Hadermann put together A Geman Christmas. Three well-known German Christmas carols O Tannenbaum, Alle Jahre Wieder and Süßer die Glocken nie klingen have been transcribed in this Christmas Medley. The romantic simplicity of the music makes it ideal for all bands.

Naar aanleiding van een kerstconcert in het Duitstalige deel van België besloot Jan Hadermann tot het schrijven van A German Christmas. Drie zeer bekende kerstliederen worden in deze stemmige kerstmedley tot klinken gebracht:O Tannenbaum, Alle Jahre Wieder en Süßer die Glocken nie klingen. De romantische eenvoud maakt deze muziek uitermate geschikt voor alle orkesten.

Anläs slich eines Weihnachtskonzerts im deutschsprachigen Teil Belgiens hat Jan Hadermann diese German Christmas verfasst. Drei bekannte Lieder wurden in diesem stimmungsvollen Weihnachtsmedley verarbeitet. Diese romantische und zugleich einfache, schnörkellose Musik eignet sich gut für alle Blasorchester.

Jan Hadermann a réalisé ce recueil de Noël allemand suivant un concert de Noël en langue germano-belge. Dans ce pot-pourri empreint de la sérénité de Noël ont été retranscrits trois célèbres chants de Noël allemands: O Tannenbaum, Alle Jahre Wieder, et Süsser die Glocken nie klingen. La simplicité romantique de la musique la rend abordable tous types d’orchestres.

Jacob de Haan arranged four Christmas carols in the suite Four Shepherd Songs. In the four-part instrumentation, creating the possibility to play the piece with a large number of varied strengths, he successively arranged Als ich bei meinen Schafen wacht, Inmitten der Nacht, Kommet ihr Hirten, and Ihr Hirten, erwacht. The arrangement was skillfully replenished with suitable percussion instruments. All of the carols can be performed with a choir (German text). Four Shepherd Songs beautifully enriches the Christmas repertoire.

Jacob de Haan bewerkte vier kerstliederen in de suite Four Shepherd Songs. In een vierstemmige instrumentatie, die de mogelijkheid biedt om het werk met een groot scala aan gevarieerde bezettingen te spelen, bewerkte hij achtereenvolgens:Als ich bei meinen Schafen wacht, Inmitten der Nacht, Kommet ihr Hirten en Ihr Hirten, erwacht. De vierstemmige instrumentatie werd vakkundig aangvuld met gepast slagwerk. Daarnaast kunnen alle liederenmet koor (Duitse tekst) uitgevoerd worden. De Four Shepherd Songs vormen hierdoor een verrijking van het kerstrepertoire.

J acob de Haan hat vier Weihnachtslieder bearbeitet und zu der Suite Four Shepherd Songs (Vier Hirtenlieder) zusammengefügt. Die vierstimmige Bearbeitung, die eine Aufführung mit vielen und unterschiedlich großen Besetzungen erlaubt, wurde mit Schlagzeug effektvoll angereichert. Alle vier Lieder können zudem mit einem Chor (deutscher Text) aufgeführt werden uns sind somit eine echte Bereicherung des weihnachtlichen Repertoires.

L’harmonisation quatre voix avec percussion offre un vaste choix de combinaisons instrumentales. Pour réaliser cet arrangement brillant, Jacob de Haan a rassemblé les chants Als ich bei meinen Schafen wacht, Inmitten der Nacht, Kommet Ihr Hirten et Ihr Hirten, erwacht. Cette pièce peut également être interprétée avec un Chœur mixte (SATB). Le set chœur [texte en allemand] est vendu séparément (réf. : DHP 1012653-050).

La strumentazione a quattro parti è stata arrangiata abilmente e completata con le percussioni. Inoltre, tutti i canti possono essere eseguiti assieme ad un coro (con testo in lingua tedesca). Four Shepherd Songs è senza dubbio un valido arricchimento del repertorio natalizio.

This work, composed as ceremonial music, was to be part of a march medley for the participants' entry for the 2019 Inter-High School Championships, held in Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan. It was given its world premiere by the Kagoshima Prefectural Shoyo High School Symphonic Band under the direction of their teacher, Junya Tateishi. This work, fusing Japanese folk songs with march music, will have a wide appeal much like its sister works March-Bou-Shu and March-Chagu-Chagu, also published by De Haske Publications.

It was given its world premiere by the Kagoshima Prefectural Shoyo High School Symphonic Band under the direction of their teacher, Junya Tateishi. This work, fusing Japanese folk songs with march music, will have a wide appeal much like its sister works March-Bou-Shu and March-Chagu-Chagu, also published by De Haske Publications.
