Starter Series. Because
Aruba Tuba is a tuba
feature, tuba players
should be positioned
front and center. To
establish a solid beat,
maracas should be played
with alternating up and
down wrist strokes, and
the claves and cowbell
should be held chest high
so that their sound
projects. Bongos should
be mounted and played
with rattan sticks, with
the smaller drum
positioned on the
player's right. If bongos
are unavailable,
timbales, pitched toms,
or snare drums with
snares off may be used. A
simplified snare drum
part is also included.

Asteroids and
comets have played an
important role throughout
the history of life on
earth. It is quite
probable that the
dinosaurs have been
exterminated by an
asteroid's impact in the
Gulf of Mexico. Huge
tidal waves and fire
storms wiped out all
life. This is the year
2067 according to the
Christian calendar. A
collision has just taken
place in the asteroid
belt between Mars and
Jupiter and caused an
asteroid to enter the
earth's power of
gravitation. It is
instoppably approaching
the blue planet. As its
peoples have been
fighting each other
continuously, they missed
the building of a global
defence system against
dangers coming from
space. A scanner records
the asteroid
andimmediately sends a
message to the President
of the Anglo-American
Union. The probability
that the asteroid will
hit the earth is judged
50% by the experts. Plans
are made to shoot the
celestial body with
rockets live with
hydrogen bombs or laser
guns in order to throw it
off its track, but they
fail. The asteroid's size
seems to threaten the
existence of mankind.
Those in the know stare
at the night sky in
bewilderment. But for the
time being, there is
still peace on
earth....

Florence,
Italy, was a model of
Renaissance culture
because of its economy
and its writers,
painters, architects and
philosophers. This
descriptive new work
paints a picture of a
street fair in Florence.
You can almost feel the
atmosphere andvisualize
the bustle of activity
taking place in the grand
Renaissance square. Bring
the past back to life
with this attractive and
entertaining
composition.
Het
Italiaanse Florence was
vanwege zijn economie en

Dit werk schildert een
markt in Florence, de
sfeer is bijna tastbaar

deze levendige en
onderhoudende

The
Soldier's Wife is a
short and simple piece
commissioned by the
Singapore Ministry of
Education. It was
originally intended as a
compulsory piece for the
2012 Singapore Youth
Festival. Because many
school bands in Singapore
areincomplete, the
composer was specifically
asked to create a work
that could equally be
played by a limited
ensemble - which explains
various doubled and
optional parts.
The
Soldier’s Wife
is een kort en eenvoudig
werkje dat is geschreven
in opdracht van het
Singaporese ministerie
van Onderwijs. Het was
aanvankelijk bedoeld als
verplicht werk voor het
Singapore Youth Festival
2012. Omdat
veelschoolorkesten in
Singapore een onvolledige
bezetting hebben, kreeg
de componist het
nadrukkelijke verzoek om
het werk zo vorm te geven
dat het ook met een
beperkt ensemble
uitgevoerd kan worden:
dat verklaart een aantal
verdubbelingenen
instrumenten ad
libitum.Een warme,
melodische passage opent
dit korte werkje: de
vrouw van het - houten -
soldaatje zingt als het
ware een wiegeliedje.
Nadat dit lyrische deel
is afgerond, volgt een
energieker gedeeltedat
qua melodisch materiaal
op dezelfde bouwstenen is
gebaseerd. De hier en
daar gesyncopeerde
ritmiek verleent dit deel
een bijzondere energie,
en ook harmonisch zijn er
een paar verrassende
wendingen - waarbij
rekening is gehoudenmet
de beperkingen die
verbonden zijn aan werken
voor dit muzikale niveau.
Begon het werkje zacht en
liefelijk, aan het slot
is er heel wat meer
‘girl power’
voelbaar!
Sieh an
hier haben wir die Frau
des hölzernen
Soldaten! Zu Beginn singt
sie ein sanftes
Wiegenlied, doch dann
folgt ein kraftvollerer
Abschnitt mit
synkopierten Rhythmen und
überraschenden
harmonischen Wendungen.
Ist dieses Werk, das auch
vonunvollständig
besetzten Blasorchestern
gespielt werden kann, zu
Beginn noch leise und
lieblich, klingt zum
Schluss doch schon
wesentlich mehr weibliche
Energie“
durch...!
â€
Guarda, è la moglie
del soldato di
legnoâ€!
All’inizio, canta
una dolce ninnananna, che
precede una sezione
più potente dai ritmi
sincopati e con
sorprendenti cambiamenti
di armonie. The
Soldier’s Wife
inizia in modo calmo e
dolce per poi trovare
un’energia
tipicamente femminile
verso il finale. The
Soldier’s Wife
è un brano breve e
semplice, perfetto anche
per formazioni a organico
ridotto grazie alle parti
raddoppiate e
opzionali.

Zu
The Craftsmen -
‘Die
Handwerker’ -
ließ sich Christian
Bouthier beim Bummel
über einen Markt
inspirieren, wo alte
Handwerkskünste
vorgeführt wurden. In
den drei Sätzen seiner
Komposition werden sehr
anschaulich die
Klangeindrücke in
Musik umgesetzt: das
Ticken nostalgischer
Uhren beim Uhrmacher, das
Hämmern des
Böttchers beim Bau von
Holzfässern und
schließlich das
Schlagen der Hufeisen,
bevor der Hufschmied die
Pferde beschlägt. Ein
Werk der Reihe
Flexible 5 für
eine fünfstimmig
variable Besetzung, an
dem Musiker und Publikum
ihre Freude haben
werden!
Affascinato
dall’originalit e
dallo charme di un
mercato di artigiani, per
comporre questa suite in
tre movimenti, Christian
Bouthier si è ispirato
al
“savoir-faireâ€
di tre artigiani.
All’ombra dei
platani, dinnanzi ad un
pubblico numeroso ed
appassionato, gli
artigiani eseguono e
ripetono gesti ancestrali
che danno vita a oggetti
unici. Scoprite le
tradizioni attraverso un
orologiaio, un bottaio e
un fabbro.

An outstanding
concert march with a
bright contemporary sound
by Japanese composer
Naoya Wada that is an
impressive choice for any
performance by
intermediate levels
bands. Because it is
scored with a reduced
instrumentation it will
be very effective with
smaller high school
groups. A very impressive
composition for this
grade level! Very highly
recommended!

Valon is a
one-part composition. The
surprising opening
measures describe the
sudden entrance into
another world. After
these initial measures,
we hear a choral-like
melody, which is repeated
three times in different
instrumentations with
increasing intensity.
This represents the
procession of the ghosts
dwelling in the
underworld of Avalon,
headed by the mighty
magician Merlin.The
exalted sound is then
suddenly interrupted by a
fast movement, in which
ostinato figures
alternate with bi-tonal
motives. This represents
the attempt of some evil
characters to invade
Avalon. Mordred is the
leader of this horde and
together they disturb the
peace and quiet in the
otherwisecalm Avalon. The
flourish of trumpets
heralds the entrance of
the Knights of the Round
Table who drive away the
intruders and return to
their castle, Tintagel,
in a triumphal
procession. Upon their
return, the next problem
presents itself. An
inexplicable disease
plagues the resting
ghosts.The Knights and
the Council of the Wise
are convened to find out
the cause of this
problem. Musically this
can be heard in the
repetition of the initial
themes. The Knights and
the Council of the Wise
determine that the
presence of mortals is
the reason that the
resting ghosts are
suffering. There is
simply no room for mortal
souls in Avalon. After a
powerful statement by
King Arthur, we hear a
glissando referring to
the very first measures,
and… we are back in
the normal world. The
journey through the
underworld has come to an
end and a dream is over.

This long-lost
Fillmore march was
written as a bet with
fellow composer John
Klohr in an attempt to
prove that music sold
because of its merit
rather than because of
the composer’s
popularity. To camouflage
its origins, Fillmore
wrote the march under the
fictitious name, Gus
Beans and called it Mt.
Healthy by selecting the
title at random from a
list of Cincinnati, Ohio
suburbs. An exceptional
march for mid-level
bands, Mt. Healthy is
pure Henry Fillmore at
his very best.

Music for Life
was commissioned by the
members of Community Band
South in Pittsburgh to
celebrate their 20th
anniversary. The band's
motto, Music for a
Lifetime, provided the
inspiration for the
title. It is a work
always full of life and
vitality, even in its
more reflective moments.
Because of this, the
piece is almost totally
melodic, relying little
on development or other
formal devices. A series
of lively melodic
statements precedes a
slower central section,
designed to showcase the
band's talented clarinet
section. But the moment
of reflection is
short-lived and the
livelier music returns to
end the work in the same
spirit that it
started.
