Suite
circulaire (2018) for
organ is dedicated to
Elisa Williams Bickers.
The music takes a free,
contemporary approach to
the historical genre of
circulating (or
modulating) compositions,
where the basic material
moves through a variety
of keys before returning
home again. The goal is
not simply to play a
modulation game, but
rather to construct a
true musical discourse
where the varied keys are
an essential part of the
concept. The first
movement, Praeludium, is
bright in character.
Besides moving through
varied keys, the movement
is also animated with
various looping patterns
that provide another link
to the circulating
concept. The second
movement, Ricercare,
takes its content very
literally from the title,
which means to search
out. Instead of being a
proto-fugue, like many
ricercares from the late
Renaissance or early
Baroque, the music
searches through the keys
by means of a wandering
melody and a modulating
accompaniment. The third
movement, Toccata, is
slightly manic in
character. The syncopated
theme heard at the start
animates the movement as
it moves through both
tonal, modal, and
bitonal/modal harmonies
before reaching an
excited conclusion. (When
the suite is performed on
an organ tuned in an
unequal, circulating
temperament, there is an
additional circular
effect provided by the
quite varied key colors
that are heard as the
material moves through
them.)Organ Duration:

STILL.
LEBEN Organist Eva
Feldbc:ek had been asking
me for a long time to
write for the organ
without the use of iron
blocks, extra stopping
assistants etc ....
unusual difficulties that
belonged to my earlier
organ music. I
setmyselfthe task of
Miting a ''handier'' kind
of music for the organ.
Once I had finished
STILL. LEBEN, I didn't
think I had achieved what
I was looking for. True,
the two movements did not
involve odd things, but
handy isn't really the
word for them either. So
I wrote the three
movements in COUNTERMOVE
to tidy up even more. And
since I didn't think that
was enough either, I
wrote the really simple
pieces under the title IN
TRIPLUM. The three
series(eight pieces in
all, 2 + 3 + 3) sound
very different, but they
all take their point of
departure from the nature
and tonal resources ofthe
organ. Everywhere there
is polyrhythm or
hierarchical layering,
polychromaticism,
diatonics and melody (the
last of these only
sparingly and in some of
the movements). Pelle

'Valet will
ich dir geben - Du arge,
falsche Welt' Based on
the sacred poem of
Valerius Herberger and
written in the style of
Melchior Teschner's
chorale melody, the
French composer Naji
Hakim (*1955) wrote a
moving work for choir and
organ. The five chorale
variations lead from
heavenly joy in the
choral parts to a
charming setting for solo
organ; then Hakim moves
on to a setting for a
cappella choir and a
canon for soprano and
alto with organ
accompaniment. The
expressive work ends with
a lively toccata which is
complemented by an
expressive adagio in the
middle.

Few baroque
composers were ever able
to create work as sunny,
as joyous as Vivaldi did
in this beloved Gloria.
The contrast of mood
throughout the work as it
moves through the drama
of the Mass to its
satisfying double final
movement shows the
composer at the height of
his powers.Vivaldi
composed this work in
Venice in about 1715,
during his fruitful time
at the Ospedale della
Pieta. In his lifetime
this priest, composer and
virtuoso Violinist
achieved enormous musical
success. Considering his
great popularity in the
modern era, it is
difficult to believe that
public appreciation of
his work declined after
his death and that the
Gloria languished
undiscovered
forcenturies. It wasn't
until 1957 that the
restored work was heard
again in its entirety.
Since that time, this
moving and joyous Gloria
has been recorded more
than one hundred times
and perennially appears
on concert series around
the world.

Suite in F
(2017) is in three
movements: Praeambulum,
Ground, and Fantasia. The
first movement,
Praeambulum, begins with
F's as descending octaves
followed by a rising
scalar passage. This
theme returns throughout
the movement and also
serves to provide the
harmonic material for the
intervening episodes. The
second movement, Ground,
unfolds over a repeating
bass line, beginning with
a spare two-part texture
(that returns near the
end) and increases in
harmonic density. The
third movement, Fantasia,
begins in F and
introduces its two basic
musical ideas: a
fanfare-like march figure
and a pattern of quickly
alternating 3rds. The
music moves through
several modal areas
before reaching an
exultant conclusion.

It
is no coincidence that
the Toccata from Widor's
Vth Organ Symphony is his
best-known composition.
Who can resist its
thrilling verve? Not only
this, but also the other
movements of this unique
work of the organ
repertoire win you over
immediately - the first
with its march-like,
majestic, much-varied
theme; the second with
its wonderfully elegiac
oboe melody, flowing
along over staccato
sixteenth notes; and the
two slow movements, of
which the melancholy,
almost static Adagio
forms the greatest
contrast imaginable to
the following triumphal
Toccata. The Carus Urtext
edition is based on the
Paris edition of 1928/29,
the last one to be
published during Widor's
lifetime. The corrections
which the composer made
after the publication of
this edition have also
been taken into
consideration. As well as
this, earlier editions
have been consulted for
comparison to clarify
individual variant
readings. Editorial
suggestions on the

French
organist and composer,
Marcel Dupré
(1886-1971) is also
remembered as a
significant pedagogue.
However, his prominence
within the organ
repertoire remains
absolute with sublime
works, including his
Passion Symphony.
Dupré studied at
the Paris Conservatoire
with Louis Vierne and
Charles-Marie Widor,
where he won prizes for
piano, organ and fugue,
as well as the Grand Prix
de Rome. He was a famous
organ virtuoso and was
able to perform the
entire works composed for
the instrument by J. S.
Bach from memory.
Dupré's Op. 23,
the Passion Symphony for
Organ is made up of
four movements depicting
the life of Christ; 1)
The World awaiting the
Saviour, 2) Nativity, 3)
Crucifixion, and 4)
Resurrection. All of the
movements display a high
degree of virtuosic
technique and musical
integrity. Dupré's
compositions and didactic
works remain important to
organists today and his
Passion Symphony
is no exception.

Incorporating complex
rhythms, harmony and
melodies, The Ascension
for Organ is no exception
to the composer's
popular, distinctive

1932-1933. The composer
described the work as
Four Symphonic
Meditations and the
sections are; 1) Majesty
of Christ praying that
His Father should glorify
Him, 2) Serene Alleluias
from a soul longing for
Heaven, 3) Alleluia on
the Trumpet, Alleluia on
the Cymbal, and 4) Prayer
from Christ ascending
towards His Father.
Messiaen arranged The
Ascension for solo organ
a year later. The first,
second and fourth
movements are
arrangements of the
orchestral version,
however, the composer
created a new third
movement; Outburst of joy
from a soul before the

Hymn preludes
and choral arrangements
by Bendt Fabricus (2018).
Foreword: This small
collection of preludes
and choral arrangements
is a selection of
movements, created
through more than 30
years of work as an
organist in the Danish
National Church. The
collectionis first and
foremost intended as a
useful work tool for all
my colleagues around the
Danish organ benches.
There are movements
thatare suitable for the
small one-manual organ in
the village church and
others that are intended
for the concert organ in
the large city church.
Some movements are easy
to follow, even with a
simple and traditionally
constructed structure,
while others, both
harmonious and rhythmic,
offer greater complexity
and degree of difficulty.
Virtually all the kits
composed for two manuals
and pedal can also be
realized on organs that
have only one manual and
pedal. As far as
registration instructions
are concerned, my
statements are only
intended as a guide to
the sonorous expression
in a given movement, as
of course everyone is
free to find exactly the
registration that is
deemed appropriate on the
instrument in question.
It is my wish that all
organists can benefit
fromthe collection and
that it will prove to be
a useful and beneficial
supplement in the daily
work. Bendt
Fabricius.

Organ Symphony
No. 2 (2017) was written
for and is dedicated to
German organist Philip
Hartmann. In all of my
works that employ
larger-scale forms (not
just organ compositions),
I am continually looking
for different ways of
providing the form and
structure. My first organ
symphony (2013) comprised
three larger movements
that charted a
progression from dark to
light. By contrast, this
second organ symphony
comprises 12 shorter
movements that together
build a larger structure
out of varied emotional
states. Although the
movements are different
in character, there are
connections of harmony
and motive across them.
One goal behind this work
is that it be suitable
for effective performance
on almost any organ,
small or large. Most
organ symphonies require
a large instrument. By
contrast, this piece can
be played effectively on
even a small organ with a
limited number of stops
(even a one manual organ
with an octave pedal
board). It can also be
very effective on a large
symphonic organ with many
different colors and a
huge tutti. Registration
is left to the
performer's discretion,
and the organist is
strongly encouraged to
use the full extent of
whatever resources are
available.

Triptykon /
Triptych for Organ solo
by Niels Rosing-Schow.
Triptych is written for
the celebration of the
500th anniversary of the
Reformation in 2017,
commissioned by The
Danish Society of
Organists and Cantors.
From the preface: The
three movements of the
work are musical images
or situations, with the
middle one, Toccata, as
its axis. The latter is
intended as an image of
the dispute between
Luther and the
ecclesiastical
authorities, which is the
origin of the
Reformation. Two of
Luther's Reformation
Hymns are more or less
palpably present in the
music. The other two
movements can be regarded
as 'before' and 'after'.
The first, Exordium, is a
'fluid' situation, but
also a preparation, which
gradually accumulates a
suspense pointing towards
the discharge of energy
of the Toccata. The third
movement, Hymn,
represents a serene
situation, where a wealth
of hymnal fragments grows
out of an underlying
structure, repeated
several times(technically
speaking, a passacaglia).
There are also elements,
however, which are
derived from the previous
movements. Niels
Rosing-Schow (2016).

The
origins of Marcel Dupre's
Offertoire Il est ne, le
divin Enfant lie in a
gift from father to
daughter. Marguerite
(1909-63), a very capable
pianist, married in 1948
and moved with her
husband to
Chevire-le-Rouge, near
Angers. The church there
had, according to
Marguerite, a poor organ
and no organist. She
agreed to undertake the
role, and in anticipation
of playing for the
Midnight Mass of
Christmas in that same
year, she asked her
father to write a short
offertoire in the style
of Daquin. Marcel Dupre
kindly arranged to have a
small organ relocated
from their residence in
Meudon and the
registration instructions
in the score match the
specification of this
instrument. Our edition
includes the
specification of the
Louis Bonn organ as well
as minor editorial
commentary.
We are
grateful for permission
granted from Marcel
Dupre's descendents for
permission to make this
work available to the
general public.
