In terms of layout and musical text, this scholarly-critical performing edition of George Frideric Handels Complete Organ Works is based on the complete edition volumes of the composers keyboard music edited by Terence Best as part of the HalleHandel Edition (HHA). The HHA Critical Commentary forms the basis of this edition, which however differs from the HHA volumes in two respects. Firstly, it gathers together, for the first time, all of Handel works for which it can be solidly argued that they were composedfor the organ. The centre piece is a set of twelve handwritten fugues deriving directly from his immediate surroundings and published here, for the first time, as a unified cycle. Secondly, our edition presents plausible alternative readings fromvarious sources in the main body of the music. In the HHA these readings, all of which definitely or presumably stem from the composer, are merely listed in the critical commentary. - A detailed Foreword contains a description of the sources, followed by comments on the individual works. Sonata No. 1, Op. 5 Two Preludes, Op. 52 Two Meditations, Op. 57 A Quiet Voluntary, Op. 70 Basil Harwood's organ music takes a chronological journey through the composer's creative years. This journey begins with the Organ Sonata No. 1 in C sharp minor, op. 5 and ends with Quiet Voluntary for Evensong, op. 70, composed in 1946 when the composer was eighty-seven. In the intervening years came many and varied compositions often demanding an instrument of ample resources together with a player equal to their somewhat formidable technical demands. Displaying a fine sense of craftsmanship, they represent an important contribution to the organ repertoire. Unjustly neglected in the years since the composer's death, it is hoped that these six volumes will continue the ever-growing interest in Basil Harwood's music./ Répertoire / Orgue

Gerard Bunk (1888?1958) was one of the greatest organists of the first half of the 20th century who, besides Reger, was able to develop his own characteristic style. His organ compositions divide into free individual works, character pieces, chorale preludes and six large-scale concert works.

Volume IV contains organ works composed between 1912 and 1915, comparable in quality with works by Max Reger and Sigfrid Karg-Elert. Harmonically bold and full of individual style, they are one of the last milestones in the late Romantic style before the advent of the Organ Reform Movement.

This Urtext edition, prepared by the composer?s grandson, is the result of extensive, meticulous research into the sources and reflects the latest musicological findings. Each volume contains a detailed foreword, numerous facsimiles and illustrations and a critical commentary.
