National anthems are an integral part of official receptions and play an important role at major events such as the Olympic Games or World Championships. Most anthems date from the 18-20th centuries and are often an essential part of the political and cultural development of a country, e.g. on its way to independence or democracy.
At the same time, the anthem conveys a sense of community and is a means to express identification with one's home country. / [Hymnes Nationaux] / Musiques du monde / Partition / Broché /

Arrangement and nbsp - for and nbsp - voice and Piano accompaniment. Commissioned by Gareth Malone for Series Four of BBC TV's 'The Choir' and first performed by Malone and the Military Wives' choir as part of The Royal British Legion's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on 12th November 2011 in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen. A favourite for the 2011 Christmas Number One, with support from radio DJ Chris Evans who has suggested every choir in the country should sing this song, it's and nbsp - the biggest threat to X-Factor chart domination this year. The text is taken from poems, letters and prayers written by the Military Wives, selected and adapted by Paul Mealor, and a passage from the Book of John: Wherever you are, my love will keep you safe - My heart will build a bridge of light, across both time and space. Wherever you are, our hearts still beat as one, I hold you in my dreams each night, until your task is done. Light up the darkness, my wondrous star, Our hopes and dreams, my heart and yours, forever shining far. Light up the darkness, my prince of peace - May the stars shine all around you, may your courage never cease. Wherever I am, I will love you day by day, I will keep you safe, cling on to faith, along the dark, dark way. Wherever I am, I will hold on through the night - I will pray each day, a safe return, will look now to the light. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Par SMETANA BEDRICH. Bedrich Smetana (1824-1884) only began to devote himself intensively to the project of an original opera in Czech at the age of 38. The libretto of 'The Bartered Bride”, the second of Smetana's nine operas, was written for Smetana by the poet and journalist Karel Sabina. The subject chosen for the comic opera was the story of a pair of lovers in the countryside whose relationship is disapproved of by their parents. It is set during the festival at a village church anniversary.
The final form of the work, which soon came to be regarded as a national opera, was preceded by a relatively difficult genesis.
The opera was written between 1863 and 1865 and was premiered on 30 May 1866 at the Provisional Theatre in Prague, where the composer's last version of the work was also performed in 1870.
This vocal score contains the musical text of the critical edition of Smetana's own vocal score.
The newly-set edition contains both Czech and German vocal texts - the German singing translation is by Kurt Honolka.
The newly-set and revised performance material for the entire opera, based on the critical edition by Frantisek Bartos, is available on hire.
The vocal score replaces the old edition AE 112.
