Per Violino, Violoncello E Pianoforte. Par CALLIGARIS SERGIO. Sergio Calligaris was born in Rosario (1941), Argentina. He is one of the last musicians to incarnate the traditional 19th century figure of pianist, teacher and composer, inaugurated at the beginning of the 19th century by Muzio Clementi and carriedon after that by a sequence of famous names that the history of music has handed down to us. As a pianist, he began to give public performances at the age of 13, making his debut in his home town Rosario. Following this success, he embarked upon an extremely busy career as a soloist, giving numerous recitals in Buenos Aires and other citiesin Argentina. He continued to take advanced lessons with eminent exponents of the most prestigious international piano schools. In 1974 he became an Italian citizen and settled in Rome, teaching piano as principal instrument at the S. Pietro a Majella StateConservatory in Naples, the Luisa DAnnunzio Conservatory in Pescara and the Alfredo Casella Conservatory in Aquila. As a composer, he began - at just 9 years of age - to study in the rigorous school of Paul Hindemith, under the guidance of Father Luis Machado, from whom he inherited a love of counterpoint and a strong taste for harmony. He took a diploma incomposition, counterpoint and fugue at the age of 16 at the Amigos del Arte Society in Rosario, going on in 1964 to do an advanced course in 12-tone counterpoint at the Cleveland Institute of Music. The catalogue of his compositions, which has nowreached Op. 55, encompasses a huge range of instrumental/vocal chamber music and symphonic works: a vast and articulated catalogue, in which Sergio Calligaris’s composition expresses its inspiration through the dramatic development of a dialecticalcontrast between the two natures of the composer’s personality - the elegiac and the dithyrambic - which confront and interact with each other giving rise to artistic outcomes of a deeply moving nature. / Niveau : Intermédiaire / Répertoire / Violon, Violoncelle et Piano

Par WUORINEN CHARLES. Charles Wuorinen\'s Second Piano Trio was found on his desk at the time of his passing in March 2020. A single, nine-minute movement, it is characterized by a complex, lively rhythmic interplay between the three instruments, in particular a wittily repeated figure of sixteenth-note quintuplets. Upon reviewing Wuorinen\'s third and final draft for this piece posthumously, three of Wuorinen\'s close musical confidant his student, composer Anthony Cornicello, who edited and engraved the work; his partner and manager, Howard Stokar; and his frequent collaborator, cellist Fred Sherry have decided unanimously that while Wuorinen would certainly have added small details to the score, what he has left behind is a complete and substantial piece. It is published for sale as a full piano score with violin and cello parts. C Major. Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. In Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, a piano trio provides the soloists – a first in the history of music. Beethoven’s treatment of the trio is pioneering: he does not apply a typical piano trio setting in contrast to the orchestra, but varies his treatment of the solo parts, allowing each instrument to play alone with the orchestra (particularly the cello), using two solo instruments together in ever new combinations, and finally bringing together all three instruments with the orchestra. Beethoven weaves a complex web – the orchestral, piano, violin and cello voices interplaying and entwining – and he produces a true masterpiece. Bärenreiter’s new Urtext edition of Beethoven’sTriple Concerto is a completely fresh revision of this warm and beautiful showpiece. Errors abounded in all previous editions, but with the assistance of three newly-discovered sources, editor Jonathan Del Mar has cleaned up the text, corrected wrong notes and rhythms and (for the first time since 1807) presented the work in a way that a musician of Beethoven’s day might have recognized, with all necessary information for directing the piece included in the solo piano part. Lotta Wennäkoski tells about her 10 minute long work Päärme (Hem) for piano trio: 'We often speak in music of crafting in a figurative sense, and craftsmanship is, for the composer particularly, a traditional professional virtue. I personally have from time to time nevertheless been interested in the concrete images aroused by handicrafts, the way fabrics feel, and sewing. The pi-ano trio Päärme/Hem has a pulsative character, especially in the outer sections, and the idea of steady but erratically colourful stitching prompted the amusing and highly unusual word I chose for the title of the piece. The hemming in this trio is cheerfully brisk, though the result is not al-ways even intended to be over-neat or regular. For noise sounds are also an intrinsic feature of a hand-made texture. As is often the case with me, my source of inspiration in composing was the fact that the Sibelius Piano Trio would be giving the first performance. The slow, melodic material of the static middle section is to a great extent indebted to the knowledge of just how succulently such delicate, inten-sive lines can sound in the hands of ace players.'
