Some of the most beautiful and diverse pieces by some of the finest composers in recent history are included in this enormous Library Of Modern Piano Music. Over 100 fantastic pieces are guaranteed to keep you learning from this truly classic selection until the next century! The Library Of Modern Piano Music boasts an unprecedented volume and variety of amazing compositions, some well-known, some more unfamiliar, some composed as standalone pieces and others as film scores, but the one thing uniting them all is their impeccable musicality and how enjoyable they are to play. Featuring the biggest names in contemporary classical music, composers like Einaudi lend their wonderful compositions (Primavera, Una Mattina), and all-round geniuses like Philip Glass are represented with a generous selection of their finest work (Metamorphosis Five, Opening Piece From Glassworks and more). The varied progression of Piano music through the 20th century to the present day has given rise to an exceptionally vast and diverse repertoire. The unbelievable depth of the composers included here means you'll rarely be stuck for something to play. Kaija Saariaho, Stravinsky, Francis Poulenc, Dustin O'Halloran, Nico Muhly and Witold Lutoslawski are genuinely just a fraction of the composers featured in The Library Of Modern Piano Music. Some great standalone compositions like Samuel Barber's incomparable Adagio For Strings sit aside excerpts from longer works like a portion of Edward Gregson's An Album For My Friends or Joby Talbot's Once Around The Sun.If you happen to be a fan of film and television scores, a taste of Michael Nyman's distinguished score for The Piano is included, a section from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, as well as parts of Richard Rodney Bennett's score for the now rarely-seen but superb 1980s miniseries of Tender Is The Night. Many established composers are included in this collection who are widely-recognised as masters. However, The Library Of Modern Piano Music also includes many young virtuosos who have not yet achieved that status but are certainly well on their way. These original compositions span standalone pieces, albums, suites and arrangements from diverse talents, making The Library Of Modern Piano Music a collection that is certain to be seen by future generations as a perfect collection of the best of contemporary classical music. / Piano

Sometimes people even write to me assuming that the sheet music already exists, asking in regards to a particular song, 'Where can I find the sheet music?? My response to all these requests has been always been the same? 'Unfortunately the music is only written in my head and in my fingers, but I do hope that maybe one day I'll be able to write some of it out and publish a book of sheet music.? And finally, ten years later, that day is here! I am very proud to announce that Piano Works Vol. 1, my first book of piano sheet music, will be available in mid-June. Thanks to my dear friends at Erased Tapes and Music Sales for helping this come to fruition.- Peter Broderick / Piano

Par HENRY VIII. Thirty-Five Compositions By King Henry VIII is a unique collecti...(+)
Par HENRY VIII. Thirty-Five Compositions By King Henry VIII is a unique collection, containing King Henry VIII’s complete secular works. These works consist of part-songs and instrumental consorts, and have been transcribed and edited by John Stevens. The collection is a mixture of instrumental pieces and pieces for vocal ensemble, mostly in three parts, with about half-a-dozen in four. Seventeen of the pieces are instrumental, though it is perfectly possible (and historically accurate) to play the vocal pieces on instruments if preferred. In the instrumental pieces no instruments are stipulated. The top staff is treble, the second is written in the trebleclef but sounds an octave lower, as for vocal tenor, and the lowest line is a for a bass clef melody instrument. Either flute or recorder would work well for the top line in most of these pieces, which usually go no lower than around middle C. The bassoon could play either the second or third line. And the line left over could be played on keyboard. This is not harmonic music however. There are no chords, nor would it be easy of idiomatic for the keyboard player to vamp or otherwise extemporise harmonies. The pieces are printed in score, so two players might share one copy, but two copies would be ideal if the keyboard player is also taking part, and three of course if the players want to practise separately./ Recueil / Piano

PIANO SONATA NO. 4 from the years 1962?1964 is dedicated to the memory of Fiser?...(+)
PIANO SONATA NO. 4 from the years 1962?1964 is dedicated to the memory of Fiser?s friend, the pianist Antonín Jemelík, who died tragically. As a tribute to their friendship the composer incorporated into the introduction a quotation from their favourite work, Piano Sonata No. 10, Op. 70,by Alexander Scriabin. The tragedy of the death of the composer?s friend pervades the emotionally intense passage of unison octaves which follows the three-bar quotation. From a compositional point of view this work is a masterpiece of the mid-Sixties. Written as one movement, the piece is divided into numerous mutually contrasting segments which themselves are clearly grouped into two sections, exposition and development. The individual themes are introduced in the first section and thematically expanded in the second section. The motif treatment lies almost exclusively in the fragmenting or curtailing of the theme, or in the use of a combination of several themes, for the most part brief and eloquent. This compositional method, together with a clear-cut manner of execution, mainly semitonal melody and sharply contrastive dynamics, lends force and transparency to the piece. Piano Sonata No. 4 was completed in 1964 together with Symphonic Fresco, Concerto da camera for piano and orchestraand Fifteen Prints after Dürer?s Apocalypseand has earned its rightful place alongside them as masterpieces of Fiser?s ?uvre. The work was first performed by Pavel Stepán in Prague?s Rudolfinum in 1965. The new setting for this piece is based on the single edition to date (Panton, 1969) only with regard to a few inconsistencies in the score was it necessary to consult the composer?s manuscript (kept at the National Museum ? Czech Museum of Music, acquisition number 297/2006). H 7988, ISMN 979-2601-0447-1

Par WELBURN JAMES. Already known from his previous score, Musical Escapades, James Welburn is presenting us with his new collection: a collection of waltzes. Balancing between the romantism and tenderness of Chopin and the flamboyance of a Vienesse waltz, James manages to conjure his most tuneful and memorable moments in these pieces. 3 of the pieces are inspired and named after three capital cities near the Baltic sea./ Répertoire / Piano

Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. Beethoven’s final three piano sonatas have always been a source of great fascination. Composed in 1820, the Sonata op. 109 opened the door to the future with its extreme expressivity, its abandonment of traditional techniques and its radical departure from familiar aesthetic norms. Beethoven specialist Jonathan Del Mar has competently solved the questions raised by the highly complex source material of this work headed “Sonata for the Hammerklavier” in the autograph score. The result is a reliable musical text and a Critical Commentary explaining alternative readings and editorial decisions. In addition to a reader-friendly engraving and practical page-turns, the edition is roundedoff with an informative Introduction and valuable notes on historical performance practice. PIANO SONATA NO. 1 was written in 1955. Fiser worked on it during his last year at the Prague Conservatoire under the supervision of Emil Hlobil. The piece is one of Fiser?s early works which still respect a traditional compositional approach. Unlike his major and late piano sonatas, this sonata has three movements, each representing the traditional Classical-Romantic form. The sonata was premiered by Fiser?s fellow-student and friend Antonín Jemelík in Theatre D34 on 30 January 1956. The new setting for this piece is based on the single edition to date (SNKLHU, 1957) only with regard to a few inconsistencies in the score was it necessary to consult the composer?s manuscript (kept at the National Museum ? VI/3 (FAURE GABRIEL) Piano seul [Partition] Barenreiter
Sonata for Piano N 5 /Three Romances Without Words op. 17 N 52 / Mazurka N 8 / P...(+)
Sonata for Piano N 5 /Three Romances Without Words op. 17 N 52 / Mazurka N 8 / Prelude [and Fugue] N 17 / Gavotte N 14 / Short Pieces op. 84 N 147 / Mazurka op. 32 N 75 / Five Impromptus. Par FAURE GABRIEL. Centering on the important series of the “Impromptus”, the collection of “Pièces brèves”, and the “Trois Romances sans paroles”, the present volume also gathers piano works by Gabriel Fauré that are either unpublished or little-known. It is of additional interest insofar as it draws attention to a series of pieces dating from his earliest creative period. The young composer’s progress can thus be followed, from his student work at the “École de musique classique et religieuse” to the earliest masterpieces for piano born between 1875 and 1880.
These scores show Fauré’s ability to imitate styles of the past, crafting preludes and fugues, a sonata in the Viennese tradition, and character pieces deriving straight from Mendelssohn, Schumann, and Chopin. Through them, a musical personality emerges little by little: its signs are tenuous in the “Sonate”, in the early versions of the “Fugues”, and in the “Trois Romances”, but they are more in evidence in the “Mazurke”, the “Gavotte”, and the “Prélude” in E minor. Of his early compositions, Fauré, to be sure, retained only what is included in this volume, namely those pieces which he deemed most personal and suitable for publication. All of these compositions are remarkable for their individual flavour.
Despite the diverse origin of its constituent parts the contrasted “Pièces brèves” collection is unjustly neglected, as it forms an ensemble of high quality, with a search for concision that anticipates the “Neuf Préludes”. Next to the “Nocturnes” and “Barcarolles”, the five “Impromptus”, vigorously crafted between 1881 and 1906, show a composer with ever increasing creative powers who crosses borders in the pursuit of his artistic ideas.
Beside the first versions of the 3rd “Romance” and two “Pièces brèves”, the appendices to the present volume include the interesting piano solo version of the “Pavane” doubtlessly penned by the composer, as well as the cadenzas to piano concertos by Beethoven and Mozart which he wrote for his students and, later, for the pianist Marguerite Hasselmans. These cadenzas’ originality has aroused the interest of pianists again and again./ Recueil / Piano

Edward Elgar's Salut d'amour is one of those pieces by the British composer that has a particularly haunting melody. Composed in 1888 for his future wife Caroline Alice Roberts, the work became an enormous success early on. Notes in the surviving autographs for the versions for Violin and Piano (HN 1188), Violoncello and Piano (HN 1189) and Piano solo show that Elgar had intended making arrangements for numerous scorings - but only the three named versions were authorised through original manuscripts. Amongst these the piano version has a special signifi cance: Caroline Alice Roberts was a piano pupil of Elgar's and thus the composer might have rewritten the original for violin and piano for his fiancée and later wife. Alongside the first print, we have also evaluated Elgar's autograph engraver's copy for the first time. / Piano
