Par TOMASI HENRI. French composer and conductor, Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) published Le Tombeau De Mireille in 1959. As with his other compositions, Le Tombeau De Mireille for Galoubet (Pipe), Piccolo or Oboe, with Tambourine, Toneless Snare Drum or Piano was well-received by audiences. Tomasi was born in Marseille, but his Father and Mother were originally from La Casinca in Corsica. Despite being pressured into musical studies by his parents, Tomasi dreamed of becoming a sailor, and during the summer, he stayed with his Grandmother in Corsica where he learnt traditional Corsican songs. However, in1921, he began his studies at the Paris Conservatoire and went on to become a high profile composer and conductor. Tomasi did not forget his Corsican routes, often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother in to his compositions. Le Tombeau De Mireille is a highly unusual and modern work, not only in instrumentation, but in its use of varying time signatures, complex rhythms and a range of performance directions. The composition exploits tonality, rhythm and structure amongst other aspects. However, this Tomasi piece, suitable for advanced instrumentalists, provides an exciting, alternative addition to the ensemble repertoire./ Répertoire / Galoubet ou Petite Flûte Traversière ou Hautbois e

Version 2 Avec Cd. Par FELDMANN WALTER. «sexe-tuor» was originally a failed attempt to compose a solo oboe piece for my noyé cycle. For the solo the name 'le sexe du noyé' was intended, and the few measures of sexe-tuor were my first attempt to compose a piece in which more complex rhythms would result in a kind of proportional multiplication of individual fragments from the sextet [hence the French sextuor] le retour du noyé. This proved to be monstrously complicated and absurd. Thus, the ten measures of the «sexe-tuor» fragment represent a capitulation in the face of these complications, presented as the interruption of an immovable column of air in a frozen multiphonic sound. In the event, the solution to the problemwas quite simple: Beginning with the composition of le sexe du noyé the proportionalities of the pitch levels and rhythmic values revealed significant rhythmic possibilities. sexe-tuor remains as it is: a solo piece that can function in another compositional context, as an intermezzo between other, larger works on a concert program. The 90 second piece of music can be played in two versions: either for solo piccolo or solo oboe./ Répertoire / Piccolo

Melodies (LOEB DAVID) Piccolo Alry Publications

Par LOEB DAVID. This collection of pieces by David Loeb, written for piccolo alone, derive from melodies of the Sephardic tradition, an oral tradition remarkably well preserved despite dispersion and fragmentation of the Spanish Jewish community more than five centuries ago. The melodies display a remarkably hybrid aspect, with elements of Jewish, Islamic, Central European and indigenous Spanish musical traditions present in varying extents, always blended with consummate skill and taste. Some melodies seem Medieval, with comparatively static harmonic implications, while the more chromatic and harmonically active melodies suggest a close affinity with the Renaissance. In five movements: Por qué llorax blanca niña, Morena ma llaman, Ya viene el cativo, Nani, nani, Una matica de ruda./ Répertoire / Piccolo
