These two chamber music works are one of the main focuses in the oeuvre of Ulvi Cemal Erkin. Lively and spirited, they combine Western European tradition with rhythmic and melodic elements from Turkish folk music. Both are perfectly suitable for music lessons and concert recitals, adding a new interesting colour to the common chamber music repertoire.Erkin (1906-1972) is one of the most important composers of Turkey. He studied piano and composition in France and later returned to his home country where he became professor in Ankara. / Quatuor A Cordes

| No. 38 (AYRES RICHARD) Quatuor à cordes: 2 violons,
alto, violoncelle [Conducteur et Parties séparées] Schott
Three Small Pieces for String Quartet. Par AYRES RICHARD. Richard Ayres’ Three...(+)
Three Small Pieces for String Quartet. Par AYRES RICHARD. Richard Ayres’ Three Small Pieces for String Quartet each have distinct characters that illustrate the composer’s vivid imagination and skill for combining energetic, touching and sometimes wild music. The first piece is a short tribute to the Romanian singer Maria Tanase, a long forgotten performer who was once a star in her country. The second is a rough, fast and folk-like section in 11/16 time and the third, subtitled “Countess Eva von Spendu (on a horse) gallops through the forest (pausing four times to contemplate natural splendour)”, contains (in the words of the composer) “hunting gallops, a Feldmanesque 19 bar blues, some devilish fiddling, moments of repose and contemplation, and a lyrical finale.”/ Recueil / Quatuor à Cordes

'Originally written for a suite called Silver Poetry, a Suite on Australian Images, for German flautist Christiane Meininger, whose specially designed flute bears that name ('Poesie in Silber?), this short piece was composed on the day I went for a walk in Russell Falls in Tasmania, and I encountered the small pink breasted robin, a rare tiny and very pretty bird. It had such a charming aura about it as well as something very theatrical in the way it just took off in a flash. This piece has something of a circus character.? Italie (BAKER CLAUDE) Quatuor à cordes: 2 violons,
alto, violoncelle [Conducteur et Parties séparées] Hal Leonard
Italie for String Quartet Score and Parts. Par BAKER CLAUDE. Annees de pelerinag...(+)
Italie for String Quartet Score and Parts. Par BAKER CLAUDE. Annees de pelerinage: Italie (Years of Pilgrimage: Italy) derives its title from the set of three suites for piano by Franz Liszt in which he musically portrays the strongest sensations and most lively impressions created by his travels to Italy and Switzerland during the period 1835-39. In this composition, each of the four movements explores a particular Italian city or region through, in part, the eyes of other composers who (like Liszt) were inspired to write works based on their own sojourns in the country. There are references, both literal and oblique, to music by Berlioz, Tchaikovsky and Liszt (with a sly wink from Paganini). Serious and playful elements combine in thepiece, with the two inner movements (II. Venezia e Napoli and III. Firenze) providing light-hearted foils to the more somber outer movements (I. Roma and IV. Abruzzo).
