German. Great
Baroque church music full
of color and powerful
imagery! Sing to the Lord
a new song! Sing, rejoice
and praise his holy name
with the trumpets and
cornetts! And nature
shall join in, the seas
shall rage, and the whole
world and the rushing
waters rejoice. This is
such an ideal text for
Telemann: The voices
rejoice and praise
together with the horns,
harp, and trombones; and
the choir and instruments
make the sea roar, the
earthquake tremble and
the rivers and mountains
exult. $43.95 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 2 to 3 weeks | | |

The cantata Himmelskonig,
sei willkommen BWV 182
holds a special place in
Johann Sebastian Bach's
biography. He had been
employed as organist and
chamber musician at the
court of Weimar since
1708; on 2 March 1714, he
was appointed concert
master of the court, and
his inauguration music
for this occasion was
Himmelskonig, sei
willkommen. The cantata
was first performed on
Palm Sunday of that year,
25 March 1714. Bach
performed this cantata
several times - always
revising and amending it
- both in Weimar and in
Leipzig. Of the
altogether four versions,
the first Leipzig version
has been selected for the
present new edition.
Unlike the Weimar
versions, it can be
realized effectively
using modern performance
means. In his debut
composition of 1714, the
newly appointed concert
master demonstrated his
abilities: the eight
movements contain a
multitude of beautiful
and rewarding challenges
for choir and vocal
soloists alike, and in
addition there is the
unusual attraction of a
virtuoso solo part for
the recorder. Score and
part available separately

German/English. The
cantata Freue dich,
erloste Schar BWV 30 is
one of Bach's last church
cantatas. Originally
composed as a parody of
the cantata Angenehmes
Wiederau BWV 30a for the
Feast of St. John's Day
in 1738, it still enjoys
a great popularity today.
Its extraordinary length
(12 movements) made it
possible for Bach to
employ four vocal
soloists who, together
with instrumental
soloists, choir and
orchestra contribute to
the generally festive
character of this work.

German/English. The
cantata Freue dich,
erloste Schar BWV 30 is
one of Bach's last church
cantatas. Originally
composed as a parody of
the cantata Angenehmes
Wiederau BWV 30a for the
Feast of St. John's Day
in 1738, it still enjoys
a great popularity today.
Its extraordinary length
(12 movements) made it
possible for Bach to
employ four vocal
soloists who, together
with instrumental
soloists, choir and
orchestra contribute to
the generally festive
character of this work.

Latin. The Missa in
tempore belli by Joseph
Haydn is an interesting
work in several respecst.
Firstly this setting of
the Mass provides
pointers to the situation
of Austrian church music
as it had been affected
by imperial decrees.
Secondly the political
situation, with the
imminent invasion of
Austria by Napoleon's
troops, had reached a
crisis point which is
reflected in the
description of this
composition as a Mass in
time of war. Last but not
least, this work is the
first of the group of six
settings of the Latin
Mass which, together with
the oratorios The
Creation and The Seasons,
form the body of Haydn's
last period vocal works,
and which unquestionably
belong among his supreme
creative achievements.
