The heroic
pastoral Daphnis et Egle
was performed only once,
on 29 October 1753, for
the entertainment of King
Louis XV at Fontainebleau
and remained unpublished
until today.
This
edition is based on
Rameau's autograph
manuscript, a copy of the
separate parts, and the
libretto published by
Ballard in 1753. A
comparison of the sources
reveals two versions of
the work: the original
version and the one
revised for
Fontainebleau, whereby
the differences lie
mainly in the final
divertissement. This
edition recommends the
Fontainebleau
version--which is
actually more complete in
its musical form, in
particular with its
overture and two
ariettas--but also
reconstructs the original
state of the final
divertissement (presented
in the appendix) before
it was revised.

“The
Glagolitic Massâ€,
one of the 20th century
masterpieces of sacred
music, has a very complex
genesis and constitutes
an intricate editorial
challenge.
This
new critical edition
presents two different
versions of the work in
two separate volumes
(B/5-I, BA 6862 und
B/5-II, BA 6863): the
“September
1927†version which
the composer completed
before the first
rehearsals and subsequent
premiere in Brno and the
version he partly
reworked for the first
Prague performance in
April 1928. This second
version was then revised
further and published
after Janacek’s
death by Universal
Edition Wien in 1930.
Known as the “final
authorised
version“, it has
been newly edited for
this publication which is
based on the
engraver’s copy of
the score prepared by
Janacek’s regular
copyist Václav
Sedlacek.
The new
Barenreiter edition also
contains an informative
preface
(Cz/Eng/Ger/Fr/Ru) as
well as detailed critical
commentary. The
“September
1927†version can
be seen more as a
supplement and appears
without text
commentary.

During the
summer of 1774 Mozart
wrote two Masses within a
few weeks: the Missa
brevis in F major, K.
192, and the Missa brevis
in D major, K. 194. A
feature common to both
compositions as well as
to the Dixit et
Magnificat K. 193,
written at about the same
time, and the Trinitias
Mass K. 167 of the
previous year, is a more
or less strongly evident
tendency towards
contrapuntal writing.
However, while the Dixit
et Magnificat and the
Trinitas Mass approach
the late-baroque style,
in these two brevis
Masses Mozart sought to
combine traditional
polyphonic techniques
with a more modern
musical language. This
work is now available in
carus music, the choir
app! Score and parts

The Missa
Beatissimae Virginis
Maria was composed ca.

end of his tenure as a
singer in the choir of
St. Stephen's in Vienna
and the beginning of his
first position as
violinist and music
director for the Bishop
of Grosswardein. The
scoring of SATB (for soli
as well as choir) and
church trio was augmented
by two trumpets (clarini)
and timpani, as well as
two trombones. The latter
instruments double the
alto and tenor voices in
tutti passages but in the
Et incarnatus est they
are also employed in an
obbligato role. On the
one hand, as an early
work this Mass is in the
style of the festive

subjective inspiration
which distinguished it

The St.
John Passion, Bach's
first passion oratorio,
can hardly be understood
asonework. Between 1724
and 1750 the work was
performed at least four
times in various Leipzig
churches under the
composer's direction and
for every one of these
occasions it was revised
- sometimes quite
substantially.
Thi
s edition presents the
St. John Passion in its
second version of 1725,
of which only excerpts
were rendered in the New
Bach Edition volume II/4
(1973). This version as
well as the last one of
1749 constitute the two
versions that have come
down to us almost in
their
entirety.
Most
recently found sources -
in particular the
libretto print of the
passion rediscovered in
2015 - are taken into
consideration in this
edition for the first
time.

most frequently performed

challenges for any choir
are the high register and
the enormous
orchestration of this

often required to declaim
against a large orchestra
performing forte
fortissimo! This problem
is resolved in the
arrangement for two
pianos; moreover, the
scaling back of the sonic
forces helps reveal
compositional structures
that otherwise can all
too easily get lost in
the intoxicating
orchestral sound..

approach becomes evident
for the first time in the
Mass in D minor from
1864, the work does not
place the same high
demands on the performers
as the two later masses.
This arrangement for
soloists, choir and 2
pianos has an air of
transparency, rather like
a work of chamber
music.. Score

In the 19th
and early 20th centuries,
transcriptions of large
(choral) symphonic works
for two pianos were
extremely popular: They
enabled a large audience
to get to know classical
compositions in an age
before recorded music. In
many cases, world-famous
works were first
performed in such a
version –
including
Bruckner’s Te
Deum. Unfortunately, only
a few bars of this
transcription have
survived.The
Stuttgart composer,
pianist and experienced
piano-duo performer
Sebastian Bartmann was
commissioned by the
Landesakademie für die
musizierende Jugend in
Baden-Württemberg
Ochsenhausen to newly
arrange Bruckner’s
Te Deum and the Mass in D
minor for soloists, choir
and two pianos. A timpani
part (ad libitum)
provides additional
color. The arrangements
are based on the original
Carus editions. The vocal
scores and choral scores
of the original version
can also be
used.Today the Te
Deum is Bruckner’s
most frequently performed
vocal work. The greatest
challenges for any choir
are the high register and
the enormous
orchestration of this
extremely effective
piece: The singers are
often required to declaim
against a large orchestra
performing forte
fortissimo! This problem
is resolved in the
arrangement for two
pianos; moreover, the
scaling back of the sonic
forces helps reveal
compositional structures
that otherwise can all
too easily get lost in
the intoxicating
orchestral sound..
