Par ROSSINI GIOACHINO. The “ Petite Messe Solennelle ” is the finest work of Rossini ’s late years. He composed it between 1863 and 1864 at the age of 71 as a commission for Countess Louise Pillet-Will for the consecration of her private chapel, where the work received its first performance in March 1864. Together with the “Stabat mater”, the mass is one of the composer’s most important sacred works. The unusual instrumentation with two Pianos and Harmonium is entirely in keeping with the Neapolitan Keyboard tradition of the 18th century which was cultivated in France in Rossini ’s day. It forms a distinct contrast to the style of large-scale sacred compositionsas written by, for example, Liszt and Bruckner. Rossini explained that he wrote the later Orchestral version of the work dating from 1867 out of concern that if he did not do this, other composers might orchestrate the mass too heavily in later arrangements. The Piano reduction by Andreas Köhs is extremely idiomatic and largely preserves the charming character of the unusual instrumentation. - Based on the Urtext of the series “Works of Gioachino Rossini”. - Foreword in two languages (Eng/Ger). - With a separate Harmonium part and one part for Pianos I and II. / Messe / Répertoire / Choeur Mixte et Orchestre

On 20 December 1823 Helmina von Chézy's 'great romantic drama? 'Rosamunde? received its premiere performance at Vienna's Theater an der Wien. Unfortunately this version of the drama with ghosts, shipwreck, pirates, attempted poisoning and other horrifying ingredients has not survived - unlike Schubert's popular incidental music which was already praised by contemporary critics. Special acknowledgment was given to 'the genius of this much-loved master?, and as evidence of its popularity, the overture and the 'Hunters' Chorus? had to be played again. Now Bärenreiter is issuing one of Schubert's best-known compositions in a complete vocal score. The appendix includes Chézy's draft to the play 'Rosamunde? and a reconstruction of the first version of this drama.- Urtext edition based on the 'New Schubert Edition?- Bilingual Foreword (Ger/Eng)- Idiomatic, uncluttered piano reduction (Ger) / Chant Et Piano

2 Solo Sopranos, 2 Solo Altos, 3 Solo Tenors, 2 Solo Basses, Mixed Choir and Orchestra. Par MONTEVERDI CLAUDIO. Scholarly-critical Urtext edition orientated towards performance practice. Detailed critical commentary (Eng) in the full score. Movements 10, 13 and 14 are included in their original high clef in the appendix of the full score. These movements are also available with Piano reduction as print-on-demand. Claudio Monteverdi’s “Vespro della Beata Vergine” is without doubt one of the most popular sacred works of the 17th century. Apart from the many available recordings, it is frequently performed in its entirety or in parts. The Urtext edition of this well-known work has unusual origins. It originated from a graduate seminar at the University of North Texas, under thedirection of the Monteverdi specialist Hendrik Schulze. The result is an edition which combines the latest in musicological research specifically with the needs of the performer in mind. This has led, for instance, to a divergent evaluation of the “Lauda Jerusalem” oriented towards performance practice, with numerous additional accidentals and a new interpretation of the melodic variants from the different part books. These new musical and performance practice insights make a modern interpretation of this 400-year-old work possible. Full score & performance material available for sale./ Répertoire / 2 Solo Sopranos/3 Solo Ténors/2 Solo Basses/Orches

The first great orchestral psalmMendelssohn's first great orchestral psalm took almost six years to complete, from the initial sketches and the first version of 1830 to the final version of 1835. Its premiere which took place at the Leipzig Gewandhaus did not take place until 1838.Unlike his other orchestral psalms, Mendelssohn took the Latin words from the Vulgate as his principal text which stems from Psalm 113. When he later prepared his own German translation, he made use of Psalm 115 from the Luther Bible. This edition by the leading Mendelssohn authority John Michael Cooper incorporates all the relevant sources. In accordance with the work's genesis, the vocal parts are underlaid with the Latin text, and the German text appears underneath.Rounding off this Urtext edition are an informative Foreword and detailed Critical Commentary. The piano reduction stems from Mendelssohn himself.- Informative Foreword in the score (Ger/Eng)- Text underlay in two languages (Lat/Ger)- Piano reduction by the composer / Choeur Mixte Et Piano

Légende dramatique en quatre parties. Par BERLIOZ HECTOR. In 1828 Berlioz wrote the 'Huit scènes de Faust'. The work was soon withdrawn but almost twenty years later each of the eight scenes found a place in the Légende dramatique 'La damnation de Faust' dedicated to Franz Liszt. The first part of the 'Damnation' exposes the figure of Faust and has an introductory nature. From the second part onwards, the course of action is largely based on Goethe?s drama. Contrasting characters and dramatic effect are of central importance in understanding Berlioz?s musical thought and his compositional process. Magic and fairy tale, incantations and ghosts, have been the ever-recurring themes ofopera since the Baroque. It is precisely this fantasy in Berlioz's Faust, the ?Opéra de Concert en Quatre acts?, which comes very close to the spirit of Goethe's presentation. Arrangeur: Andrea Campora. Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. Beethoven’s sacred works include two settings of the Mass. The “Mass in C major”, completed and premiered in 1807, has been unjustly described as a preliminary step towards the great “Missa solemnis”. Yet it is a self-contained and, for its time, decidedly modern piece of church music. Drawing on the rich body of sources, Beethoven specialist Barry Cooper suggests practical solutions to the work’s musical and interpretative problems. His deep study of the sources convinced him to include a fully realized organ part in the score, just as Beethoven envisioned it for the first printed edition. As stated in the sources, the parts for the soloists and choir are notated on joint staves to demonstrate that the soloists are also to sing the choral passages. Rounding off this Urtext edition are a Foreword on the work’s genesis and a detailed Critical Commentary. - Score with realization of the organ part - Bilingual Foreword (Eng/Ger) and Critical Commentary (Eng) - Idiomatic piano reduction Features of the Barenreiter Urtext edition of Beethoven 's Mass In C Major : Score with realisation of the Organ part Bilingual Foreword (Eng/Ger) and Critical Commentary (Eng) Straight-forward Piano reduction Full score and performance material (BA9039) and Vocal score (BA9039-90) available for sale Amongst Beethoven ’s sacred works are two settings of the Mass. Par MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY FELIX. Felix Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah caused a sensation at its world première performance, sung in English, in Birmingham UK in August 1846. The huge forces marshalled for the occasion delighted the audience, who demanded no fewer than eight encores and loudly acclaimed the composer despite an injunction to observe the solemnity of the occasion by refraining from applause. Elijah has been an essential repertoire work for choral societies ever since. Published on the 175th anniversary of that famous premiere, Edition Peters is proud to present a new English-language Urtext edition of the vocal score containing the original libretto by William Bartholomew. Edited and with a preface by the highly respected musicologist Klaus Burmeister, the edition also includes a foreword ‘Mendelssohn and Birmingham’ by Simon Halsey, one of the world’s foremost choral directors (Chorus Director City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Choruses; Artistic Director, Orfeó Català Choirs and Artistic Adviser, Palau de la Música, Barcelona; Choral Director, London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus; Artistic Director, Berliner Philharmoniker ‘Vokalhelden’ Programme). The edition complements and is designed to be used in conjunction with the existing German/English full score (EP11345) and orchestral parts. An associated German language vocal score is also available (EP11347). Edition Peters Vocal Scores are the choice of the world’s leading choirs and chorus masters. They are practical, reliable, high-quality editions containing expert piano reductions. / Date parution : 2022-07-20/ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

Par SCHUBERT FRANZ. The piano part has been thoroughly re-worked for this new vocal score of Schubert’s Mass in A-flat major (D 678). Andreas Köhs' piano reduction reliably reflects Schubert’s orchestral score and is at the same time idiomatic piano writing. Bärenreiter’s new revised vocal score is compatible with the old vocal score as well as with the orchestral parts and the full score already available./ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

Par GLUCK CHRISTOPH WILLIBALD. Gluck Iphigénie en Aulide (Vocal Score) Tragedy - Opera in three acts Iphigénie en Aulide is the first of six operas that Gluck composed for the Académie Royale de Musique. In keeping with his plans for operatic reform, he sought to create noble, expressive and natural melodies that did justice to every language and every national spirit while eliminating the “ridiculous distinction” between national styles of music. Although the première was coolly received at first by the contemporary press, “Iphigénie” developed into a tremendous success. The onrush of listeners was said to have been so great that the management of the Paris Opéra considered placing guards in front of the theatre. Now Bärenreiter is issuing the carefully revised and corrected vocal score in a new engraving adapted to meet their current standards. - Revised and newly engraved - Detailed foreword (Ger/Fr/Eng) on the work’s genesis and reception history, together with a summary of the plot - Practical, straight-forward piano reduction - Performance material available for hire (BA5849-72) / Date parution : 2022-07-20/ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

Vienna version 1781. Par GLUCK CHRISTOPH WILLIBALD. Gluck Iphigenie auf Tauris (Vienna version 1781) (Vocal Score) Music drama in four acts Following upon the great success of “Iphigénie en Tauride”, Gluck arranged the popular drama of human passions, guilt and unconditional friendship once again for Vienna’s Burgtheater, where it was premièred in 1781. Especially remarkable is the masterly orchestration, which, among other things, turns the forces of Nature into a character in the drama and projects a striking contrast between civilization and savagery. Now Bärenreiter is issuing the carefully revised and corrected vocal score in a new engraving adapted to meet current standards. - Revised and newly engraved - Detailed foreword (Ger/Eng) on the work’s genesis and reception history, together with a summary of the plot - Practical, easy-to-play piano reduction - Performance material available for hire BA05843-72 - Full Score, hardback, available for sale BA02281 / Date parution : 2022-07-20/ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

In spite of the most enthusiastic reception at the work's premiere, the famous pianist and conductor Hans von Bülow criticized Verdi's Messa da Requiem as 'an opera in ecclesiastical robes?. Nonetheless, or maybe precisely for this quality, the work has conquered concert podiums worldwide. For this scholarly-critical edition, the editor has consulted no less than 16 sources, many more than were ever used for any other edition of the Requiem - some of these sources were never evaluated before and one source, a hand-written vocal score, particularly relevant to the evaluation of the 'Liber scriptus?, was newly discovered. As such, this edition offers new philological and editorial decisions regarding phrasing, articulation and dynamics and succeeds in presenting practical suggestions to solve musical problems and those concerning the interpretation of this famous work. This edition comprises a concise Critical Commentary in the score. The most important editions published in the 19th century are compared with regard to musicological questions in the work. The genesis of some misunderstandings included in the 1913 and 1964 Ricordi editions is traced. The first version of the 'Liber scriptus? for chorus is included in the appendix while the later version for mezzosoprano solo is to be found in the main part of the edition.- Verdi's monumental work in a Bärenreiter Urtext edition- Trilingual preface (Ital/Eng/Ger)- Critical Commentary (Eng) in the score- Idiomatic well-presented piano reduction / Orchestre

Par HAENDEL GEORG FRIEDRICH. Handel Song for St Cecilia´s Day (HWV 76) (Vocal Score) Following ?Alexander?s Feast? (1736), in 1739 Handel produced a second setting of the ?Ode to St Cecilia? (?Song for St Cecilia?s Day?). At its première it was combined with ?Alexander?s Feast?. Rather than a dramatic plot presentable in the theatre, the Ode, in its seven sections, offers a general hymn of praise to music and its impact. Accordingly, it largely consists of emotion-laden arias and festive orchestration. This edition, based on the Urtext from the ?Halle Handel Edition?, offers the version heard at the first performance ? the version preferred in today?s concert life. The foreword (Ger/Eng) provides many detailed notes on performance practice with regard to orchestration. - Urtext from the ?Halle Handel Edition? - Detailed notes on performance practice in the text section (Ger/Eng) - Straightforward piano reduction - Full Score (BA10722), vocal score (BA10722-90) and parts (BA10722) available for sale / Date parution : 2022-07-20/ Répertoire / Solistes, SATB et Orchestre
