Grades 1 - 5. Par LCM. This is the first of two books covering the timpani grades for the popular London College of Music and Media percussion exams. Two pieces and a study are included for each grade, and there are examples of sight-reading tests and sample viva voce questions. The LCM requirements, unlike those for other examinations syllabuses, replace scales and rudiments with tuning tests, and marks are awarded for musicianship as well as for technical ability from the earliest stages./ Recueil / Timbales

An Intermediate Method for Individual or Group Instruction. Par BLACK DAVE / BERNOTAS CHRIS. Part of the Sound Innovations family, Sound Percussion fills the need for a comprehensive percussion method that provides a clear progressions of notes, rhythms, and skills that can be used for group or individual lessons. Sound Percussion has a clear and flexible approach with plenty of reinforcement. Books are available: Teacher's Score - Snare Drum and Bass Drum - Mallet Percussion - Timpani - Accessory Instruments. Sound Percussion contains seven sections covering everything from setting up the instruments to percussion ensemble performance. Sections include: Sound Preparation - Sound Rhythm - Sound Meter - Sound Rudiments - Sound Rolls - Sound Effects - Sound Performance.Directors can work through the book(s) progressively, or jump from sectiontosection in order to address the specific educational needs of their students. The mallet book, however is more sequential by nature of note introduction. Skills are introduced with a backwardbydesign approach. Learning goals are first identified, and then exercises are logically designed with obtainable steps that lead you toward achieving that goal. This is particularly helpful for mallet note recognition and snare drum rolls. Sound Percussion is a comprehensive resource that's perfect for teaching your students the fundamentals necessary to becoming wellrounded percussionists. / Niveau : Intermédiaire / Méthode / Méthode / Timbales

Par MANTOVANI BRUNO. Contrary to what one might think, it is particularly difficult to write a solo or concertante work for an instrument that a person is very familiar with. Whenever I encounter this situation, I always feel a certain reserve or prudence, or even apprehension about leaning toward facility, in terms of gestures. Lack of objectivity can result in the imagination being more instrumental than purely musical. However, when Benoît Cambreling came to me proposing that I write a concerto for timpani, I did not hesitate for an instant because this instrument possesses extraordinary and often under exploited musical potential. This percussion instrument often provides a type of harmonic and rhythmic base in the orchestra, but can also assume the role of a soloist. I began by writing an etude for solo timpani making use of glissandi, rhythmic inflections, as well as the melodic potential. Once this first step was completed, I began to 'orchestrate' the etude, or rather to extend the instrumental material into the orchestra by creating illusions of resonance, doublings, and echoes. Sometimes, the timpani also become a reservoir of ideas for the orchestra capable of triggering textures (as in instrumental electronic music). Here however, the instrument is above all treated in a melodic manner, reinforced, or not, by orchestral instruments that create a backdrop and the illusion of extension./ Répertoire / Timbales
