The 29 single-page studies in this book are designed to combat that tendency as they are musically, intellectually, and rhythmically challenging.The first 24 studies proceeded through the circle of fifths and address all minor and relative major keys; the last 5 pieces were individually conceived, i.e., apart from the circle of fifths. Occasional fingerings or position guides are suggested but these are largely left to the student or their teachers. No metronome indications are given so that the etudes can be played at individually comfortable tempos?with or without a metronome, or freely as concert etudes. It is the stepwise motion and octave leaps of the etudes that makes the intervals between pitches easy to hear, even in keys with numerous flats or sharps.Just as in Elaine Fine?s more basic scale etude book, Violin Scale Tales, the names of the etudes herein refer to various animals that have scales, including insects, fish, birds, reptiles, a few species of squirrels with scales on their tails, and the solitary pangolin, the only known mammal whose entire body is covered with scales. Over the wonderfully enjoyably years of conducting, there have been so many fine encounters with the Mozart Violin Concertos - mostly with very gifted players like Menuhin, Oistrakh, Stern and, more recently, Cho-Liang (Jimmy) Lin. There have, however, been instances (only a few, I'm pleased to say) when I've come, in the performances, to dread the onslaught of those cadenzas, which sound like a send up of Paganini, or belong to the wrong century with a plethora of double-stopping lasting too long, venturing into tonalities Mozart would not have recognized. After several performances with Jimmy came a request from him for suitable cadenzas that showed off the solo violin while commenting on Mozart's music he had just played. They worked, and Sony asked us to record them all and, with the welcome inclusion of Jaime Laredo, all the rest of Mozart's violin and orchestra repertoire. C'était la Sonate des trilles du diable qui immortalise Giuseppe Tartini (1692-1770), bien que le travail n'est qu'une d'un grand nombre de concertos et sonates pour cordes et surtout pour son instrument, le violon, a déclaré. La Sonate présente dans Re maggiore per Violino solo est un point de vue technique, pourtant pas encombré travail exigeant. Les mouvements lents, l'introduction du Andante cantabile et le Largo dirigent TASSO, composé sur la mélodie d'une chanson de gondole vénitienne, donner le soliste de l'occasion pour jouer cantabile. Le Minuetto ludique respire clairement l'esprit de l'ère post-Baroque, tandis que l'Allegro assai venant en second mélange des passages fortement préhension ones étonnamment sentimentales. Le mouvement ambiguë caractéristique est répété après la Minuetto, complétant ainsi la Sonate en solo./ Répertoire / Violon
