This single-movement work in the key of D has entered the repertoire as an essential Violin piece for the experienced musician.Adoration is a perennial favourite work of composer, Violinist, critic and writer Felix Borowski, with a beautiful melody that builds to ecstatic ending on high D. Borowski was born of Polish parents in England, but, after an invitation from American showman Florenz Ziegfeld, spent most of his life in Chicago where he taught at the Chicago Musical Conservatory and Northwestern University. He created the music collection at the Newberry Library there. He also edited the programmes of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, as well as composing and teaching privately. / Violon Et Piano

Bohuslav Martinu wrote his First Violin Concerto in Paris in 1932-33, this work having been commissioned by the violin virtuoso Samuel Dushkin. However, it was never performed during the composer's lifetime and was even considered lost after his death. It was not until 1961 that musicologist and collector Hans Moldenhauer bought it from Boaz Piller, contrabassoonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Moldenhauer approached Czech violinist Josef Suk, who gave the world premiere of the work with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Georg Solti in October 1973.This piano reduction is based on the musical text of the first edition.
