Study and
Play is ideal for
developing your playing
in an enjoyable and
musically sound way. Each
edition within this
concept features audio
recordings to add
something extra to your
study routine.When you
play
thisConcertino you
will be able to practise
at a slower study tempo,
as well as the normal
tempo, so that you can
work on your violin
playing in a more
concentrated way whilst
improving your insight
into the music. You
cancontinue to study in
this goal-orientated way
until you have achieved
the desired result.
The title of this piece
suggests a concert
situation: playing a solo
partwith accompaniment.
There are thousands of
such works for theviolin
but many of these cannot
be tackled until you have
been playing for a
considerable time.
Concertino in Russian
Style Opus 35 enables
you to gain necessary
experience for this type
of playing: namely having
sufficientmusical and
technical control over
your instrument whilst
having the support of an
accompanist during
performance. This
carefully chosen
concertino will enrich
your repertoire.

Der Titel dieses
Stückes beschreibt
die Situation in einem
Konzert: Es wird ein Solo
mit Begleitung gespielt.
Solche Werke gibt es
zutausenden für

The day
that Australian and New
Zealand forces joined the
Allies for an invasion of
the Gallipoli Peninsula
of Turkey in World War I,
with disastrous
consequences, is
celebrated in Australia
as Anzac Day (Australian
and New Zealand Army
Corps). To honor this
special day, Bresnick
takes inspiration from
two selected poems by
Bertolt Brecht (And I
Always Thought and Legend
of the Unknown Soldier
Beneath the Triumphal
Arch). Commissioned to
commemorate
Australia’s Anzac
Day, similar to Memorial
Day, and inspired by two
Brecht poems…The
somber opening violin and
clarinet lines unfolded
to haunting effect before
eventually reaching a
fervent climax. --Vivien

Ferdinand
Küchler is regarded as
one of the great violin
teachers of the 20th
century. Apart from his
Violin Method, it is,
above all, his
concertinos that are an
absolute must for the
development of any violin
pupil, especially his
famous Concertino in G
major Op. 11 (Schott SE
1001) as well as his
Concertino in D major Op.
15 which both enjoy great
popularity. Composed
“in the style of
Antonio Vivaldiâ€,
the work has, without
doubt, been one of the
most frequently played
works in student violin
literature for decades.
It is the perfect
educational link to
Vivaldi's somewhat more
difficult “student
concertosâ€. The
completely baroque-style
movements appeal to every
pupil. The fast outer
movements contain
rewarding, always
seemingly violinistic
runs and idiomatic
figurations. The appeal
of the slow middle
movement lies in its
simple, yet tonally
demanding Siciliano
theme. The works requires
knowledge of the 2nd and
3rd positions and is here
presented in a new modern
edition. Bowing,
articulation and
fingerings are based on
today's experience of
interpreting Vivaldi's
music, providing creative
space and possibilities
for personal ideas in
modern violin lessons.
This edition is part of
the new Schott Student
Edition series which
offers varied literature
at five different levels
of difficulty,from 1
(easy) to 5 (difficult),
for instrumental lessons.

For a
long time after
Romanticism had come to
the fore, it was
generally agreed that
Brahms somehow did not
get it: History and
Progress - it was thought
- were proceeding along
one clear path and Brahms
- who was composing
sonatas and symphonies
instead of nocturnes and
symphonic poems - had
taken the wrong way.
Almost one century later,
Schonberg wrote an essay,
Brahms, der
Fortschrittliche (Brahms,
the progressive), in
which he explained that
it wasn't like that at
all.Fully assuming the
risk to appear somehow
irreverent, I have to
confess: Over the years,
I came to the conclusion
that the present - and
the future - can be
created only by loving
the past. As Brahms had
shown us, it is only by
accepting the challenge
of taking our heritage
into our own hands, that
we can create something
new. We cannot avoid
engaging with the past.
Therefore, starting with
my Sinfonia n. 1, I began
to flirt with such a
strong and effective
musical structure like
the sonata form. I
re-read and freely
transformed it, because
it is a sturdy and
resilient structure, but
also a theatrical and
colorful one. For me, it
is a happy structure. And
I think that today more
than ever we need
something like this: We
need to find places -
even imaginary ones -
where we can give
happiness a form of its
own.Nicola Campogrande,
