These editions feature easy-to-read printing along with tips and suggestions from highly experienced music educators. The Serenade & Valse by the relatively unknown composer Marie Dare is an attractive addition to the repertoire in the first years of study (Level 2) and can be played entirely in first position. The Gavotte op. 112 by Sebastian Lee is a multi-faceted work for intermediate students (Level 3). Musically the Gavotte offers the possibility to present different characters. The piano part is intentionally simple and is limited to a supporting accompaniment.

Graham Waterhouse created a little series of lovely melodies for his son, which he then successfully performed at violoncello competitions. The eight pieces can be played alone, as well as in a suite with a random sequence. The majority are dances with rhythmical characteristics that are intended to challenge the young string players. This also applies to the expanded performance techniques that are introduced and occasionally used here. The level of difficulty ranges from the first position in Montague's March up to the fourth position in Henry Hornpipe, the most difficult piece in the cycle. Originally conceived for solo voice and piano, this edition also contains an alternative version for two violoncelli.

Barbara Heller's duet 'Herbstmusik' [Autumnal Music] for cello and piano is a short piece of 5-6 minutes' duration which is as vibrant and colourful as the season itself and a welcome addition to the repertoire for this combination of instruments. Graded at intermediate level, it is also a suitable extension to the contemporary repertoire for advanced young cellists and for playing in youth music competitions (age range 11-16).This piece only requires players to use the first four positions plus harmonics. Fingerings and bowings were added in collaboration with the cellist Katharina Deserno from Cologne. An improvised solo cello cadenza may be added, starting from the Bb with fermata in bar 88. This might draw on the musical material in the preceding bars 85-88, possibly making use of motifs and playing techniques already featured in the piece, such as 'col legno' or 'pizzicato' - but no limits should be placed upon the performer's imagination.
