The Cello Sonata Op. 6 was composed over an apparently frequently interrupted period of three years, an extraordinarily long time for Strauss's early creative phase. The compositional process spawned two independent versions of the work, the first of which is published for the first time on the basis of the text in the Critical Edition of the Works of Richard Strauss in the current edition as a practical musical text. The genesis of the two versions and the reasons for revision can only be reconstructed in part: only one of the surviving autographs bears a date and the second version only survives in printed form. What is more, Strauss did not communicate in greater detail on this composition in correspondence with his family and friends. There are enormous differences between the two versions of the Sonata: Strauss deleted the entire second and third movements Larghetto and Allegro vivace, replacing them with a newly composed Andante and Finale. In the first movement, Allegro con brio, Strauss retained the thematic-motivic material and compositionally complex passages such as the three-voice fugue in the development section (from bar 241 in the first version and bar 275 in the second version) almost intact in the new version of the sonata, but also undertook extensive alterations, particularly in the structure of the piano part, the motivic-thematic development of the movement and its harmony which became far more ambitious.12 Particular attention should be drawn to the repetitive accompaniment of the con espressione theme beginning in bar 32 and the significantly shorter development in the first version. The current printed edition of the first version of Richard Strauss's Cello Sonata now makes it possible to follow Strauss's compositional development during this period. The significance of the differences between the versions also mean that two sonata compositions for violoncello and piano by Richard Strauss with fundamental disparities in their underlying character are now available for performance. The first three movements of Johannes Brahms' E minor Cello Sonata were composed in 1862, the last movement was written in 1865. During the first years of its performance the work was received with mixed enthusiasm. By the end of Brahms' life, however, it was widely performed and by the first decades of the 20th century it was firmly embedded in the repertoire of many distinguished cellists. It was notably Robert Hausmann's advocacy of the work which seems to have contributed greatly to its promotion.Of particular value to the editors were the three early performance editions of the Cello Sonata op. 38 by Cornelius van Vliet and Edwin Hughes, Hugo Becker and Carl Friedberg, as well as Julius Klengel. The cellists' van Vliet, Becker and Klengel's fingering and bowing allows for a better understanding of their performance practice. As such, the Bärenreiter edition comes with a cello part marked with fingering and bowing by the editors which are based on the practices of Brahms' contemporaries. We also provide an unmarked urtext part.An important part of this edition is the extensive preface. Firstly it informs about the works' origins, early performances, its publication as well as early reception. Truly remarkable is the unique Performance Practice Commentary. Here the editors take the premise that already a few decades after Brahms' death a widening gulf developed between the composer's expectations and the performance practices of the early 20th century. Par FAURE GABRIEL. Immediately after finishing his second Violin Sonata op. 108, Fauré started work on a sonata for Cello and Piano in early 1917, thus realising a long-conceived plan. In their predisposition and attitude, both works are very closely related. In the Cello sonata, a sombre, dramatic opening movement is also followed by a calm, relaxed slow middle movement and a graceful finale. The critical response to the first performances was subdued, but on account of increasing interest in Fauré ’s complete late chamber music, this sonata has recently been rediscovered as a substantial part of his oeuvre. The Henle Urtext edition constitutes the first criticaledition of this work. Born into a family of bankers that had lived in Florence since the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) studied under Pizzetti at the city' s Conservatoire. He soon became one of the leading members of the young Italian school, which broke with the tyranny of bel canto to return to the instrumental tradition of the Italian masters from the Baroque era. In 1928, Amédée-Landély Hettich, a vocal teacher in Paris, asked Castelnuovo-Tedesco to write a vocalise for the Répertoire moderne de Vocalises-E tudes, the publication of which he was supervising at Leduc. Castelnuovo-Tedesco' s contribution, entitled Vocalise-E tude for Medium Voice, became so popular that it was immediately transcribed several times over. The present adaptation for cello and piano, was created, with prior consent from the composer, by the famous Catalan cellist Gaspar Cassadó in 1930. The works opens with a poignant lamento that grieves the tragic fate of the Jewish people- it is followed by a folk dance whose ' brisk and stubborn” movement marks, with panache, an imperious refusal to yield to resignation. The composer adopted the same proactive stance himself when in 1939, fleeing Mussolini' s antisemitic laws, he decided to emigrate to the United States, a land of refuge to which he would remain faithful until his death some thirty years later./ Répertoire / Violoncelle et Piano

Having died at a young age, he never had the opportunity to gain the recognition he deserved, and much of his music has, in fact, fallen into oblivion. Less well-known than his Sonata in La (Sonata in A major) written a few years later for the same formation, his Sonata per violoncello e pianoforte (Sonata in D major for cello and piano) was composed in 1922 when the composer was nineteen years old, in the ninth year of his compositional studies in the class of Maestro Antonio Savasta. The Sonata, based on the opening of a piece by Carl Reinecke, is in sonata form, and develops over a single movement. Ces quatre villes très différentes, avec leurs cultures individuelles ont été sélectionnés à partir de l'étendue de près de 2000 km de large de l'Anatolie.SivasSivas est une ville conservatrice située dans l'Est de l'Anatolie, qui est connu pour sa grande population alévie. Comme ¸ IK Veysel est un Ozan alévie (poète) et Fazil Say a été inspiré par sa chanson 'Saz?m' (mon saz / mon instrument) dans la première partie de ce travail. Fazil Say mélange les sons de ces pubs dans ce mouvement qui inclut un volet marche dans un tempo jazz balancer. Le mouvement fait référence à la 'Alt?nda Y?ld?zlar?n' chanson qui a été réalisée par le célèbre chanteur Zeki Muren qui est également né à Bodrum. Comme chanson ¸ IK Veysel de 'Uzun Ince Bir Yolday?m', qui est bien connu dans de nombreux rangements est également en vedette dans ce mouvement. Par MANTOVANI BRUNO. C'est à la suite d'une visite au musée Paul Klee de Bern lors d'une tournée de l'ensemble intercontemporain dirigé par Pierre Boulez que j'ai décidé de composer ce duo. Inspirés par de nombreuses oeuvres du peintre-musicien allemand, ces cinq moments enchaînés sont autant d'études sur la notion de ligne, particulièrement importante pour Klee. Ainsi, la première section, la plus rhapsodique et hétérogène, est-elle une apologie d'une ligne sans cesse brisée, formée de directions claires et juxtaposées. Le violoncelle se montre lyrique, mais aussi rythmique (lors de courtes cellules en homorythmie avec le piano). C'est l'alternance entre ces deux états qui structure le discours. En opposition avec ce début, la deuxième pièce est, elle, particulièrement homogène. Le violoncelle assure un bourdon quasiment imperceptible, écrin pour le déploiement d'une ligne très volubile au piano. C'est donc la souplesse qui caractérise cette section, au cours de laquelle les deux instruments entreront progressivement en fusion timbrique. Ce flux virtuose conduit alors à une section où les deux instruments ne font encore qu'un, fondée sur des accélérations et des ralentissements écrits dans une pulsation fixe. Une ligne sinusoïdale qui hésite entre pointillisme et continuité, interrompue par un mouvement plus mystérieux, où un trémolo est échangé entre les deux instruments. Enfin, c'est une ligne circulaire qui conclut l'oeuvre, dans un tourbillon pianistique où le violoncelle agit comme résonateur puis comme partenaire-relayeur. The entire four movements of Henry Eccles' Sonata in G Minor for ViolonCello and Piano remain in the key of G minor, with many long, expressive phrases and some moments of fleet-fingered delight.Henry Eccles was a Violinist and composer of the Baroque era who was a musician to King William and Queen Mary and a member of the Royal Band of Queen Anne. The Duke d'Aumont brought him to Paris, where he entered the service of King Louis XIV. Les influences de Mendelssohn, Schumann et Brahms se font sentir, mais laissent cependant assez de place à un langage sonore bien spécifique comportant souvent de surprenantes tournures rythmiques et mélodiques. La première version établie au printemps 1881 fut soumise par Strauss à une révision en profondeur au cours de l’hiver 1882/83: le mouvement initial fut fondamentalement retravaillé et les deux mouvements suivants furent intégralement composés à neuf. En 1880, il composa une petite pièce pour violoncelle et piano qui était censée devenir le mouvement lent d?une sonate. Fauré abandonna son projet de sonate et, au lieu de cela, publia la pièce sous le titre d?«Élégie».
