A Comic Opera. Par BICKERSTAFF ISAAC (Arr. TOMS EDWARD). 'Love in a Village' was first performed on 8 December 1762 at the Covent Garden Theatre (London). It was to become one of the most popular British musical stage works of the century, and by 1791 it had also gained international acclaim. The question of why this pastiche comic opera was able to develop this special attraction can be described in terms of fashion and tradition. By bringing stylistically sophisticated compositions by various well-known composers such as George Frideric Handel, Thomas Augustine Arne und Francesco Geminiani into the traditional 'Ballad Opera', the theatre makers succeeded in renewing traditional ways of producing and performing playhouse entertainment.
The music of 'Love in a Village' stems from four sources: Vocal music from the amusement gardens, Italian opera arias from the 1750s and 1760s, theatrical or occasional music and folk melodies. Love in a Village' thus further developed the methods first used by 'Ballad Opera' to create a comic opera from a sentimental plot and pre-existent vocal compositions.

Full Score. Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. Beethoven described his grandly conceived 'Missa solemnis” as 'my greatest work” and sold manuscript copies to some of the subscribers even before it had appeared in print.
This Urtext edition takes into account all the sources including the old and the new complete editions whose relationship is clearly explained in a stemma. In several passages the renowned Beethoven specialist Barry Cooper has arrived at variant readings, such as in the 'Sanctus”, where the choir enters instead of the soloists, rather than coming in at 'Pleni sunt coeli”. No less worthy of mention is the addition of the soloists to the choir in most of the 'Credo”. These matters and many other editorial decisions are documented in the detailed Critical Commentary (Eng).
The appendix contains Beethoven's arrangement of the Gregorian chant 'Tantum ergo” for the first time. This was composed at the same time as the 'Missa solemnis” and most probably stands in a close relation to it.
This edition is designed for everyone seeking a combination of a reliable musical text and well-founded editorial suggestions for a successful performance of this masterpiece./ Répertoire / Voix et Orchestre

Par MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY FELIX. Mendelssohn's contemporaries frequently mentioned his 'Hymn of Praise” in the same breath as Beethoven's Ninth - and often enough viewed it as an imitation. Mendelssohn authority John Michael Cooper, in his extensive Introduction to this new Urtext edition, shows that the comparison is completely unfounded: with this work Mendelssohn created a new genre to which he gave the name 'symphony-cantata”. Later he added a secular counterpart with 'Die Erste Walpurgisnacht”.
Drawing on all relevant sources, Cooper provides a detailed account of the genesis and structure of this monumental work. Rounding off his scholarly performing edition are notes on the work's performance, e.g. tempo, articulation and dynamics.
For the first time the piano reduction includes Mendelssohn's authorised version of the 'Sinfonia”, based on the first edition of No. 1 for piano solo./ Répertoire / Chant et Orchestre

Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. The St. John Passion, Bach’s first passion oratorio, can hardly be understood as “one” work. Between 1724 and 1750 the work was performed at least four times in various Leipzig churches under the composer‘s direction and for every one of these occasions it was revised – sometimes quite substantially.
This edition presents the St. John Passion in its second version of 1725, of which only excerpts were rendered in the New Bach Edition volume II/4 (1973). This version as well as the last one of 1749 constitute the two versions that have come down to us almost in their entirety.
Most recently found sources – in particular the libretto print of the passion rediscovered in 2015 – are taken into consideration in this edition for the first time./ Répertoire / Chant et Orchestre

Conducteur avec couverture rigide. Par GADE NIELS WILHELM. Gade dated the cantata „Zion“ op. 49 (named “concert piece” in the first edition) on 16 September 1874; the premiere took place on 30 August 1876 during a festival in Birmingham.
In Gade’s understanding “Zion” forms “a kind of trilogy” together with the cantatas „Kalanus“ and “The Crusader“ which centres around the “longing for the true light“. The focus of „Zion“ is the history of the Jewish people where a people has received a promise. This is described in Gade’s words in the following sections: a) Introduction – The Departure from Egypt b) The Captivity in Babylon c) The Return – Prophecy of the New Jerusalem”./ Répertoire / Chant et Orchestre

| Il Teuzzone, RV 736
(ANTONIO VIVALDI) Voix et Orchestre [Partition] Ricordi
Edizione critica a cura di Alessandro Borin - Antonio Moccia (testi in italiano ...(+)
Edizione critica a cura di Alessandro Borin - Antonio Moccia (testi in italiano e inglese). Par ANTONIO VIVALDI. 'With Il Teuzzone, RV 736, the collected edition of operas by Antonio Vivaldi gains a new volume that brings to completion the pair of operas written by the ?Red Priest? for Mantua. Premiered during the last days of 1718, the opera preceded by a few months the production of Tito Manlio, RV 738 (PR 1411). This edition of Teuzzone, the first in modern times, is based on the two complete sources to have survived: a copy originating from the composer?s own archive (Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria di Torino, Raccolta Mauro Foà 33) and the one today housed in Berlin (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin ? Preussischer Kulturbesitz, Musikabteilung, N. Mus, ms. 125), which was made for the Mantuan production. Additionally, numerous secondary sources have been collated. An appendix to the volume contains the musical materials discarded by Vivaldi during the period preceding the opera?s premiere. The supporting texts for the edition report on new findings that have emerged from archival and documentary research. It has been established, for instance, that the aria Tu, mio vezzoso (I.03) is a borrowing from Alessandro Severo by Antonio Lotti, while the aria Tornerò, pupille belle (II.02) is a reworking of Nelle mie selve natie, an aria in Scanderbeg, RV 732. These examples reveal the pasticcio-like nature of this Vivaldi opera. In the section concerned with the description of the sources, which includes a meticulous codicological examination of the source in Turin, a bold attempt has been made to reconstruct the phases that the composition of Vivaldi?s opera underwent, an operation that sheds light on the inner workings of Vivaldi?s atelier. In addition, the close relationship of this score to a work with the same title staged in Turin with music by G. Casanova and A. S. Fiorè is analysed. '/ Répertoire / Chant et Orchestre
