Avec 'Nachtgesang' (D 119) et 'Trost dans Tränen' (D120) se tourne vers l'Schubert 'Strophenlied' dans son sens strict pour la première fois. Il développe un intérêt pour ce parallèle forme à sa première participation à Goethe. Schubert, au cours de cette période, un professeur assistant à l'école de son père, lui-même orienté vers le 'Berliner Liederschule' soi-disant, en particulier les chansons de Johann Friedrich Reichardt. Diese Klavierlieder entstanden in einer für Paul Hindemith bewegten und existenziell bedrohten Zeit. Während der Komponist in der Weimarer Republik noch im Zentrum des deutschen Musiklebens stand, galt er während der nationalsozialistischen Diktatur als ?entarteter Künstler'. Ab 1936 bestand für seine Werke ein generelles Aufführungsverbot. Da er keine Arbeit als Musiker oder Dozent fand, floh er 1938 zunächst in die Schweiz, zwei Jahre später in die USA.In dieser Zeit entstand eine Reihe von Klavierliedern zu Texten von Matthias Claudius, Friedrich Rückert, Novalis, Clemens Brentano, Friedrich Nietzsche und weiteren Dichtern. Mit nur einer Ausnahme blieben diese Werke zu Hindemiths Lebzeiten ungedruckt. Italian opera was at the centre of Handel's output for over 35 years with solo arias constituting one of the most important elements in Baroque opera. Dramatic roles, with their various moods and reactions, are characterised through arias. A large number of Handel's operas also contain at least one entire scene for two to three voices. These numbers make use not only of similar lyrical or expressive forms of expression such as the arias, but also employ contrapuntal elements as found in Handel's chamber music.Based on the Bärenreiter vocal scores, three volumes were published which contain some of Handel's best-known arias, duets and trios, together with less well-known numbers of equally high musical quality.
