Tochter

See the Conquering

most famous chorus from
the oratorio Judas
Maccabaeus (1746) by
the composer George
Frideric Handel
(1685-1759). The heroic
epic based on the
Biblical story about
commander-in-chief Judas

Handel to celebrate the
English victory over the
rebellious Scottish. The
first performance of this
patriotic work - written
in the pleasing, rich

Handel’s music is
known for - was conducted
by himself; the success
was huge. The chorus
See the Conquering
Hero Comes was added
later, in 1748, drawn
from another oratorio
(Joshua).

Questo
metodo è rivolto a
chi vuole intraprendere
lo studio della tiorba
avendo già qualche
base di studi musicali e
abbia almeno una base
pratica su un altro
strumento a pizzico.
È rivolto anche ai
liutisti/tiorbisti di
ogni livello che vogliano
migliorarsi. Si
può anche iniziare
lo studio della tiorba
senza una precedente
pratica strumentale ma,
in particolare per i
bambini, è
preferibile iniziare lo
studio con uno strumento
a corde di dimensioni
più ridotte.
Durante il periodo
storico di maggior
diffusione della tiorba,
il Seicento, non sono
stati scritti dei metodi
per lo strumento
così come li
intenderemmo oggi.
Tra i vari
manoscritti per tiorba
compilati
nell’epoca Barocca,
però, alcuni
contengono
esemplificazioni utili
allo studio (passaggi,
cadenze, accordi e
progressioni melodiche).
Tuttavia questi scritti,
spesso anonimi,
contengono parecchi
errori, e qualche volta
non sono sistematici
nella
trattazione. Inoltre
il materiale musicale in
essi contenuto a volte
non è rilevante
quindi, per
l’insieme di queste
ragioni, questi
manoscritti non possono
essere impiegati in toto
come metodi per lo studio
strumentale. C’&
egrave; poi un certo
numero di trattati
seicenteschi sul basso
continuo destinati alla
tiorba. Questa
produzione, insieme alle
intavolature a stampa e i
manoscritti musicali di
cui parleremo qui di
seguito, ha fornito il
materiale di lavoro dal
quale abbiamo cercato di
trarre lo spunto per un
percorso progressivo e
sistematico. Dall&rsqu
o;inizio del Novecento ad
oggi in Europa sono stati
pubblicati diversi metodi
per liuto, ma non per
tiorba. Il repertorio per
liuto solo è
più vasto e
potrebbe giustificare
questo fatto, ma al tempo
stesso la musica per
tiorba ha caratteristiche
molto diverse. È
necessario, dunque, un
approccio autonomo alle
tecniche, al repertorio,
al basso continuo. Nel
panorama editoriale,
quindi, questo è
il primo metodo dedicato
alla tiorba.

La
scelta di questo
strumento come uno dei
mezzi di conoscenza del
linguaggio musicale
(meglio sarebbe dire la
sua riconferma, dato
l’utilizzo assai
frequente in molte scuole
italiane), ha ragioni
semplici e perciò
tanto più
convincenti: innanzi
tutto il basso costo e un
ingombro ed un peso
minimi; in secondo luogo
la facile comprensione e
messa in pratica della
tecnica d’uso oltre
alla sua secolare
tradizione ricca anche di
repertorio originale;
infine la
possibilità dello
strumento di costituire
un valido sostegno
all’intonazione e
all’emissione
vocale. Per queste
ragioni il testo presenta
un breve itinerario,
indispensabile al bambino
per procedere con la
lettura intonata e la
tecnica
strumentale. Questo
quaderno comprende un
percorso graduale di
avviamento allo strumento
utilizzando il linguaggio
tradizionale. Il lavoro
qui raccolto ha come
presupposto la
consapevolezza di aver
tralasciato quegli ambiti
di espressione che non si
avvalgono dei codici
tradizionali, vale a dire
quelle esperienze che
presumono
l’utilizzo e la
conoscenza di repertori
che si allontanano dal
linguaggio tonale e che
si esprimono attraverso
altre grafie di codifica.
In questa direzione il
volume avrebbe avuto
tutt’altra
impostazione e, pur
ribadendo
l’importanza di un
approfondimento dei
terreni musicali meno
battuti e della loro
esplicitazione anche
attraverso uno strumento
forse poco flessibile ad
esperienze di questo tipo
(almeno per i
principianti) come il
flauto dolce, si è
ritenuto di mettere a
disposizione un
itinerario strumentale
che ha dalla sua una
validità
consolidata nel
tempo. Il repertorio,
certamente non esaustivo,
ha avuto come criteri di
scelta quegli ambiti
geografici e temporali
che più hanno
messo in evidenza le
caratteristiche dello
strumento. È per
questo motivo che per i
brani d’autore si
è privilegiato
l’ambito
rinascimentale e barocco
e per ciò che
riguarda la provenienza
geografica ci si è
rivolti verso quelle
tradizioni che hanno
fatto del flauto uno
strumento
protagonista. Per
ciò che riguarda i
brani d’insieme, ci
preme sottolineare che le
indicazioni degli
strumenti non sono
vincolanti poiché
a tutti è nota la
proverbiale carenza di
attrezzature nelle scuole
che impedisce
l’utilizzo di
diversi organici. Ogni
insegnante si adatti
quindi alle risorse che
la scuola fornisce.
Inoltre, le brevi
strumentazioni dei brani
proposti sono da
considerarsi solo un
supporto di completezza
qualora si intenda dare
forma più compiuta
all’esecuzione. Il
percorso, pertanto,
può proseguire
anche con la semplice
esecuzione dei brani al
flauto dolce senza il
corredo delle
elaborazioni per un
organico più
ampio. Relativamente
agli equilibri sonori e
timbrici tra le parti,
ogni insegnante li adatti
in base al numero degli
allievi delle proprie
classi e degli strumenti
disponibili. In linea
generale è bene
ricordare che, in fase
esecutiva, una
sufficiente
intensità sonora
si ottiene con almeno 5-6
flauti dolci, ma se il
registro sale
all’acuto possono
essere sufficienti anche
la metà.
Un’utile strategia
di lavoro può
essere quella di decidere
insieme agli allievi le
possibilità di
distribuzione numerica
degli strumenti. Sostegno
sempre indispensabile
all’insegnante
è uno strumento
armonico (chitarra o
pianoforte) utilizzato
per accompagnare e
sostenere le
esecuzioni. I brani
qui raccolti serviranno
di collegamento e
supporto alle
attività di
esercitazione ritmica,
melodica, armonica,
vocale, di ascolto e di
analisi delle forme,
tutti temi approfonditi
dagli altri quaderni
della collana.

Questo
libro intende narrare una
vicenda: quella delle
relazioni tra pittura e
musica - e tra queste e
le messe in scena
drammatiche - nella
rappresentazione
dell'incarnazione di
Cristo, dalle prime
immagini altomedievali
fino ai repertori delle
zampogne dei nostri
giorni e alla
drammatizzazione
domestica del presepe nei
riti della novena di
Natale. Intende mostrare
come pittura, musica,
dramma, sviluppando
ciascuno per proprio
conto il tema della
Nativita, si siano
reciprocamente
influenzati per
raccontare delle
relazioni tra umano e
divino, angeli e pastori,
organi e zampogne.
Intende mostrare infine
come la rappresentazione
pittorica, musicale,
drammatica del Natale
abbia agito sulla realta
cui si ispirava,
determinando
modificazioni di rilievo
nelle tradizioni
pastorali prese a
modello. Non intende
questo libro, e non
potrebbe intendere,
fornire un catalogo
completo delle
rappresentazioni
drammatiche, figurative,
musicali del Natale;
vuole piuttosto suggerire
un approccio ermeneutico
che permetta di
interpretare le molte
fonti teatrali,
figurative, musicali che
in esso non sono
descritte ne
menzionate. L'Italia,
che e l'area interessata
da questa indagine, non e
tutta trattata con
uniforme dettaglio: sia
perche la storia delle
rappresentazioni
natalizie non interessa
tutta la penisola con
uguale intensita, sia
perche le ricerche sul
Natale (condotte
direttamente da me o da
altri studiosi) non hanno
conosciuto la medesima
profondita su tutto il
territorio. Ricerche
estese e capillari su
tutto il territorio
italiano, e la
descrizione di tutti i
documenti collazionati
non avrebbero peraltro,
credo, mutato in modo
sostanziale la
prospettiva di questo
lavoro, e lo avrebbero
appesantito enormemente.
Alcune zone sono state
indagate piu
dettagliatamente di
altre, e non a caso;
l'Umbria e la Toscana,
nel Trecento e nel
Quattrocento, hanno
conosciuto una presenza
francescana piu fitta che
altri luoghi, e la
committenza da parte
degli ordini francescani
ha avuto in quel periodo
un ruolo determinante
nella diffusione dei temi
natalizi. Dall'Italia
centrale, la vicenda
delle rappresentazioni
natalizie, ancora sotto
l'impulso francescano, si
irradia, nel Cinquecento
e nel Seicento, in
innumerevoli
<> artistiche,
verso le campagne, i
piccoli centri, le citta
dell'Italia
settentrionale e
meridionale. In Puglia
fiorisce una tradizione
plastica, che segnala e
in parte determina la
fortuna del presepe a
tutto tondo nell'Italia
meridionale.

'Vox alta,
clara, suavis' e la
formula del vero canto,
scoperta da Isidoro da
Siviglia
millequattrocento anni
fa. Di essa rimane ancora
traccia oggi nella
didattica vocale, ma
nella forma degradata e
stravolta, che e tipica
della moderna cultura
meccanicistica. La
troviamo riproposta (a
parole) persino da coloro
che teorizzano
l'approccio opposto
(l'affondo vocale) e che
paradossalmente parlano
di 'suono alto e chiaro'
come risultato dei loro
affondamenti, risultato
che ovviamente non si
produrra mai cosi come,
se riempiamo di piombo
tutti gli spazi vuoti di
una nave, poi non
possiamo aspettarci che
galleggi... Di 'voce
alta e chiara' parla
anche il metodo della
'maschera', ma riducendo
questa geniale intuizione
a una banale questione di
azioni muscolari
localizzate da attivare
(innalzamento del velo
palatino, sollevamento
dell'arcata zigomatica
ecc.) e di trasferimento
materiale del suono in
alto (altra surreale
utopia acustica e
fisiologica come quella
teorizzata
dall'affondo). Dove
andra cercato allora il
vero significato della
formula di Isidoro, che e
il segreto del canto a
risonanza libera? In
quella concezione
olistica del canto e in
quei principi universali
di eufonia, elaborati
dalla scuola di canto
italiana storica, che
questo libro intende
riportare al centro della
didattica vocale e
analizzare in tutte le
loro molteplici e
profonde
implicazioni.

Sinfonia
Hungarica is a
three-movement symphony
that depicts the history
of Hungary. All three
movements were inspired
by historical key
figures, wars, and other
important events from
this country. This
symphony is a celebration
of Hungary’s
millennium in 2001.The
final movement is named
after ISTVAN, the King
who introduced
Christianity into Hungary
and who was crowned by
Pope Silvestro II on
January 1, 1001. A rather
solemn start leads to
another war-like passage,
ending with some loud
crashes. This symbolizes
the fact that the body of
the pagan Koppany was cut
into four pieces, and
sent to the four castles
of the country as an
example. After a quiet,
almost
religiousintermezzo, the
National Hymn of Hungary
is introduced. This broad
“grandiosoâ€
ending also has a
symbolic meaning: after
ten centuries, Hungary
has many reasons to look
back on the past with
pride, and to look
forward to the future
with optimism and
confidence.
Die
Sinfonie in drei
Sätzen ist eine
musikalische Schilderung
der Geschichte Ungarns.
Alle drei Sätze haben
bedeutende historische
Persönlichkeiten und
Schlüsselereignisse
aus der Landesgeschichte
- wie etwa Kriege - zum
Inhalt. Das Werk wurde
zuUngarns

geschrieben.Attila
, König der Hunnen,
oftmals auch die
Geißel Gottes genannt,
ist die zentrale Gestalt
des ersten Satzes; in
seiner musikalischen
Beschreibung sind
Aggressivität und
Grausamkeit, die vonihm
ausgehende Bedrohung und
ihm entgegengebrachte
Furcht spürbar.
Daneben erscheinen das
heroischer klingende
Thema von Buda,
Attilas Bruder, und das
lyrische von Rika,
seiner zärtlich
geliebten Frau. Der
aufpeitschende Schluss
desSatzes ist Sinnbild
für die gefürchtete
Schnelligkeit von Attilas
Truppen, mit der sie ihre
Opfer eingeholt und ohne
Ausnahme getötet
haben.Im Mittelpunkt des
zweiten Satzes steht
Arpad, der
eigentliche Begründer
des ungarischen Staates.
Eineatmosphärisch
klingende Einleitung
beschwört
Emese, die
Großmutter Arpads,
herauf, die im Traum
seine Bestimmung
vorhergesehen hatte. Er
schlug seinen Gegner, den
Prinzen Zalan von
Bulgarien, im Kampf in
die Flucht und gab dem
Land denNamen
Magyarorszag.Das Finale
ist nach Istvan
benannt, dem König,
der in Ungarn das
Christentum einführte
und am ersten Januar 1001
durch Papst Sylvester II.
gekrönt wurde. Ein
feierlicher Anfang leitet
über in einen an
Kriegsgetümmelerinnern
den Abschnitt, der in
lärmendem Getöse
endet. Es steht für
das Ende des Heiden
Koppany, dessen
Körper gevierteilt und
als abschreckendes
Beispiel an die vier
Burgen des Landes gesandt
wurde. Ein ruhiges,
beinahe religiös
wirkendesZwischenspiel
mündet in die
ungarische Nationalhymne.
Dieser prachtvolle, mit
grandioso
überschriebene Schluss
hat auch eine symbolische
Bedeutung: Nach zehn
Jahrhunderten hat Ungarn
guten Grund, mit Stolz
zurückzublicken und
der Zukunft mitZuversicht
und Optimismus
entgegenzusehen.Die
wunderbare Melodie der
Nationalhymne erscheint
in der Sinfonie auch
vorher schon immer
wieder, wird meist aber
ganz oder teilweise
überdeckt. Sie
durchläuft das Werk
wie ein roter Faden, der
anfangs kaumwahrzunehmen
ist und erst im Verlauf
der Sinfonie immer
deutlicher wird. Am Ende
krönt sie das Werk in
einer letzten
prachtvollen Steigerung,
in der das Orchester den
majestätischen Klang
einer Orgel
annimmt.
Sinfonia
Hungarica,
commissionata dalla banda
ungherese di
Kiskunfelegyahaza, è
dedicata al maestro
Ferenc Jankovski, al
sindaco della citt Jozsef
Ficsor e a Gabriella
Kiss. La prima mondiale,
eseguita dalla banda
Kiskunfelegyhaza si è
tenutaa Budapest il 31
marzo 2001 sotto la
direzione del
compositore.Gli eventi
salienti della storia
dell’Ungheria,
come le guerre ed altri
avvenimenti importanti,
sono tradotti in musica
in questa sinfonia
strutturata in tre
movimenti. Sinfonia
Hungaricavuole anche
essere un omaggio allo
stato ungherese che
festeggia il suo
millennio nel
2001.ATTILA, re
degli Unni, spesso
chiamato “il
flagello di Dio“
è la figura centrale
del primo movimento,
caratterizzato dalla
paura, dalla
minaccia,dall’aggr
essione e dalla crudelt .
Buda, fratello di Attila
è associato ad un tema
più eroico, mentre
Rika, l’amata
moglie, è
rappresentata da una
melodia lirica.
L’eccitante finale
di questo movimento di
apertura illustra la
tanto temuta velocit
delle truppe di Attila
che seminavano paura e
morte.Il secondo
movimento pone
l’accento su
ARPAD, il
fondatore dello Stato
ungherese. Inizia con un
passaggio in stile
atmosferico che evoca la
nonna di Arpad, Emese che
aveva sognato e
predettoil futuro del
nipote. Uno degli
oppositori di Arpad, il
principe bulgaro Zalan,
fu cacciato dopo una
battaglia. In seguito,
Arpad chiamò
ufficialmente il
territorio
“Magyarorszagâ€
.Il movimento finale
prende il nome da
ISTVAN, il re che
portòil cristianesimo
in Ungheria e che fu
incoronato da Papa
Silvestro II il 1
gennaio, 1001. Un inizio
solenne prelude ad un
passaggio bellico
accentuato da rumori
imponenti; questo a
simboleggiare
l’atroce fine del
pagano Koppany il cui
corpo futagliato in
quattro pezzi e inviato
ai quattro castelli del
paese come monito. Dopo
un intermezzo quieto,
quasi religioso, viene
presentato l’Inno
nazionale ungherese. In
questo ampio e grandioso
finale riecheggia
l’orgoglio
dell’Ungheria
nelricordare il suo
passato e la fiducia con
la quale si proietta al
futuro.Lo stupendo tema
dell’Inno
nazionale ungherese è
proposto nell’arco
dell’intera
sinfonia. E’
però spesso
parzialmente nascosto e
usato come filo
conduttore, appena
riconoscibileall’i
nizio ma sempre più
ovvio quando la sinfonia
si avvicina al suo
finale. A conclusione
della sinfonia, il
sublime inno conduce la
banda in
un’apoteosi
finale, facendo apparire
l’organico
strumentale come un
maestoso organo.
