Par HAENDEL GEORG FRIEDRICH. 'Rodrigo” was premiered in autumn 1707 in Florence and is therefore one of Handel's early stage works. The composer, only 22 years old, wrote a densely-woven musical scenario for his first opera composed in Italy . It masterfully portrays the dramatic states of mind of the protagonists surrounding the Iberian tyrant Rodrigo and the plot full of deception, betrayal , adultery, war as well as the transformation wrought by Rodrigo's abdication. The work was not, as was long thought, a commission from the Prince of Medici. Despite this, ' Rodrigo” seems to have been so popular that Handel extended his stay in Italy and was able to compose several operas during the following period. In ' Rodrigo” , the mastery which made Handel's succeeding opera ' Agrippina” such a success, is already clearly evident . ' Agrippina” consequently made Handel's name famous throughout Europe and soon led to his first journey to London . The new vocal score is based on Volume II/2 of the 'Halle Handel Edition” (BA 4083). Certain works such as ?Preciosa', ?Oberon', and ?Euryanthe', the overtures, solo concertos and piano sonatas, the lieder and chamber works enjoyed great popularity and were widely known in Germany and abroad as late as the second half of the 19th century. However, any chance of a revival of Weber's influential and substantial oeuvre was wasted in the 1920s, when a complete edition - begun by Hans Joachim Moser and with potential contributors including Wilhelm Kempff, Hans Pfitzner, Max von Schillings, Fritz Stein and Richard Strauss - failed after the third volume.Ever since there have been numerous attempts to restart a complete edition of Weber's works, but as this kind of project would have required the co-operation of scholars from both sides of the inter-German border, the political situation after 1945 was not conducive to any such enterprise. Careful negotiations led to the first tangible steps in the 1980s. Music, like any language, follows its own set of rules and a sufficient knowledge and familiarity with musical ‘grammar’ is therefore an essential prerequisite of any convincing interpretation. Elgar was pre-eminently the composer of large forms. Complex, lengthy development of musical ideas was for him a measure of genius. His songs, with the exception of the orchestral cycle Sea Pictures , were not often the vehicles for his most striking ideas. Paradoxically, he was also bedevilled by a fine literally taste. He once told a friend that he felt it better to set the best second-rate poetry to music, for the most immortal verse is music already. Some of his songs are therefore settings of poets now all but forgotten, such as Arthur Salmon and Gilbert Parker: to their verse his music might make a vital addition. Elgar's songs offer authentic Edwardian reflections which we can value now in their own terms. Par MCHUGH JIMMY. 'I'm in the Mood for Love' is today a 'standard' song released in 1935. The music was written by Jimmy McHugh, with lyrics by Dorothy Fields. The song was introduced by Frances Langford in the film 'Every Night at Eight' and released that year. It became Langford's signature song. Bob Hope, who often worked with Langford entertaining troops in World War II, later wrote that her performance of the song was often the show-stopper. This is one of the most recorded songs out there, from contemporary Billy Eilish to legends such as Luis Armstrong, Vera Lynn and Charlie Parker. The tune started as film music and has later been used in movies such as 'The Nutty Professor' and in “The Spike Jones Show”. Please try to create a 'ballroom' atmosphere around this song. It is possible to expand the solo part with more soloists (45 – 69) and you can choose whether you want to let everyone in part 3 play what is written, or let each one improvise. If you have piano or guitar, you can also let the bass line go together with them and cut out the wind parts. Use the score as a starting point to create an instrumentation that suits your ensemble! (Should some parts only be played by woodwind or brass?) There are quite a few additional notes in the chords. Therefore, balance is very important. A series available as violin duets or violin and piano.Whether a student or a great artist, the desire to make a beautiful sound is a constant in the life of any musician. Sound is the musician's voice, the means of communicating an artistic vision to the audience and it should be the aim for children of any age or standard to be engaged in good tone production.The inspiration for writing these pieces came to me from the wish to give the young children I teach music which would develop their ear for both good intonation and beautiful tone production. All the pieces have a strongly implied harmonic structure allowing them to be played without accompaniment. The purpose of the second violin part is therefore to enable the teacher to underline the harmony as well as to influence the student's tone production and intonation through his own sound, as much can betaught by good example.
