for individual jazz
singers, classroom
students, and teachers of
vocal jazz. The exercises
are appropriate for all
levels of experience and

to better connect what
they hear to what they
play. The chapters on
jazz theory and keyboard,
as well as the glossary
and selected solos for
transcribing section make
this publication an
excellent resource of
information for any jazz
musician. In the
interviews section you
will find questions and
answers about jazz and
improvisation from some
of today's leading
professional jazz
singers, including DeeDee
Bridgewater, Kurt Elling,
Jon Hendricks, Sheila
Jordan, Kevin Mahogany,
Bobby McFerrin, Mark
Murphy, and more. The
accompanying CD contains
vocal examples with
rhythm section background
featuring Darmon Meader,

Kurtág began to copy
selected pieces from the
series Games into a music
notebook for Zoltán
Kocsis who had been his
student in earlier years
and who, even today, is
one of its most authentic

from this notebook in the
first public performance
of Games in 1974. The
gradually expanding
series of piano pieces
also appeared in print in
the course of later
decades; however, since
then he has used this
collection - expanded
over 32 years since by
Kurtág - whenever he
plays pieces from Games
in concert. Since the
time of this 1974
concert, as he writes: 'I
didn't know that the
spiral notebook I
received at the premiere
would later become, as it

gives a glimpse into

difficulty is medium. The
first piece, Complainte

second song, Je ne t?aime

is a man telling someone
that he doesn?t love her,
that everything is fine
and that he is fine if
she is happy. The third
piece, Youkali is a

string methods cultivate
playing together as early
as possible, initially in
duets. However playing in
larger mixed ensembles is
also encouraged and this
tried-and-trusted edition
for strings provides the
perfect start for this.
The first songs can all
be performed in canon;
each piece is notated in
violin, viola and bass
clef so that all three
string instruments can
play together in any
number and combination.
The collection then
continues with
through-composed pieces
by such composers as
Johann Valentin Rathgeber
and Johann Joseph Fux.
Here the middle part may
optionally be performed
by a viola or second
violin.
